Scholarships at

Norwich High School for Girls Every year, Norwich High School welcomes applicants to our Senior School and Sixth Form to apply for a scholarship. We are looking to reward girls who show exceptional ability and potential in a number of disciplines.

(Year 7), Upper IV (Year 9) and Lower VI (Year 12). Successful applicants will remain Scholars throughout their time at Norwich High School. Applications for scholarships should be submitted in the Autumn Term prior to your daughter’s year of entry.

Scholarships are awarded on merit and are available to girls entering Upper III

Year 7 (11+) and Year 9 (13+) entry Academic Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance on the transfer / entrance assessment and all candidates are considered. The assessment, which is taken in the Spring Term prior to entry, includes papers on English, Mathematics and Reasoning.

Music Applicants wishing to join at 11+ are expected to perform at Grade III standard or higher, while applicants entering at 13+ are expected to perform at Grade V standard or higher. The award of a Music Scholarship is dependent on a music audition. There will also be a short written test covering aural, listening and simple theory. Music Scholars are expected to play a full role in school musical activities.

Sport Students should demonstrate a wide range of sporting interests and involvement, and have the potential to reach county standard or equivalent in at least one sport offered at the school. The awarding of a Sports Scholarship is dependent on interview with the Physical Education Department and a practical test. Sports Scholars are expected to participate in at least one school sport each season and to help with team practises and matches.

Year 12 (16+) entry Minerva Award The Minerva Award seeks to reward girls with an exceptional aptitude in Mathematics, Science, Languages or Creative Arts who do not currently attend Norwich High School. Candidates will sit an assessment paper in the subject of their choice. This award can be worth up to 50% of the annual tuition fees.

Art and Design Applicants should produce a portfolio of their work in Art, Textiles or Design Technology, demonstrate how they would promote the subject within the school and sit a paper.

Drama Candidates will by assessed by performing a speech from a Shakespeare play and through an interview during which they will discuss their experience of Drama, in and outside school. Drama Scholars are expected to make a major contribution to co-curricular Drama events at school.

Head’s Scholarship This is an internal scholarship awarded at the Head’s discretion to a girl in Upper V (Year 11) moving into Lower VI (Year 12).

Music Sixth Form applicants are expected to perform at Grade VII standard or higher. The Music Scholarship will be awarded following a music audition and Scholars should be prepared to make a major contribution to co-curricular Music events in school.

Academic This competitive scholarship seeks to identify an outstanding student. Applicants sit papers which assess the three subjects which they intend to study at A Level.

Sport Candidates should demonstrate a wide interest in sport, be members of school teams and external clubs and have achieved county or regional level in at least one sport offered at the school. A desire to help with team practices and the coaching of younger students is essential. Applicants will be assessed through an interview and a fitness test. 7
