This was a 25,000 SF, two floor tenant build-out project in a first generation space. I collaborated on space planning and design development, presenting the client with two finish schemes and working with them to create a final design that met their needs and represented their culture. This was a design build project, constantly evolving throughout with collaboration between the general contractor, furniture vendor, client, and TDA. I worked with the client to design feature graphic walls that would provide visual interest in their large, open office with 22 foot high open ceilings, while staying in line with their minimalist design approach. I also assisted with construction documents and the permitting process, as well as addressing any issues that arose during the construction process.

This was an office building entrance renovation. The building was under new ownership and was in transition from a single tenant space to a multi-tenant configuration. We were tasked with delivering the building’s new identify while embracing existing architectural elements. We used materiality, texture, and opened up sight lines across the unique double entries to create a cohesive space that kicked off the new chapter in this building’s story.

This particular hotel was one of the first Aloft brand launched and was ready to be upgraded to the second generation of brand standards. We learned the brand thoroughly, so as we deviated to accommodate other requirements (e.g. hotel cleaning standards, this specific location’s clientele), we were able to stay true to Starwood’s design intent and the Aloft ambiance. DBVW workplace design
undergraduate
miami university | fall 2014
This workplace design studio involved profiling a design firm and creating an office space for them as if they were moving their business to Cincinnati. I am passionate about historical preservation and sustainable design, so I chose a firm that shared these values. DBVW is a small architecture and interior design firm that focuses on historical preservation, adaptive re-use, and sustainability. DBVW has a relaxed and close-knit firm culture. They are very hands-on and believe the client is an important part of the design process. I wanted all this to be reflected in their new office space. I chose as the office space the south half of the 5th floor so I could create access to the roof, providing an outdoor alternative work environment and views. I focused on incorporating sustainable elements into the workspace, supporting the firms values, and creating an open, comfortable work environment that promoted collaboration.

BLOC CHILDRENS ONCOLOGY CENTER miami university | spring 2014
This Interdisciplinary studio grouped an interior designer, an architect, and two graphic designers together to create a healthcare center. We chose to design a children’s oncology center and our objective was to create a wholistic environment that was playful, educational, and incorporated nature for the children. Our design principle was the term “bloc” - a combination of countries, parties, or groups sharing a common purpose - which embodied how we imagined the staff and design coming together to support the children. The word guided us when designing the architecture, interiors, wayfinding, and branding Working with graphic designers presented the unique opportunity to collaborate across the field and illustrated how various professions can work together to create a more cohesive and engaging space.

This project was designed to help familiarize us with wood shop in preparation for designing and building our chair in the Furniture studio. I created a set of coasters that slide into each other to create its own ‘box’ when not in use.

I designed christmas cards in conjunction with members of the LetterPress club and helped to print and package this holiday card set for a fundraiser. Aside from being incredibly fun to make, these improved my printing technique and creative type-setting ability, as well as my ability to work with fonts graphically.

DEER CHAIR
miami university | Spring 2014 The furniture design studio’s main project was designing and constructing a chair. I started out with the idea of “whimsical”, wanting my chair to call out to people and delight them. This idea wasn’t so much about sitting in the chair, but becoming the chair so to speak. Through life-size study models, I figured out how to place the antlers and hooves so that when seated, you quite literally become the deer. This chair is a marriage of modern, traditional, and surreal, making it fascinating to look at and fun to sit in. Designing and then constructing a piece of furniture provided insight into the fundamentals of design construction.

Ca p s t on e Urban farm center miami university | spring 2015
Capstone for Interior Design is a year long process involving in-depth independent research around a topic I am passionate about and addressing the issue with a design project. There is a disconnect between where food comes from and the average American, resulting in a lack of knowledge about how food can impact ourselves and the environment. Likewise, farmers practicing sustainable farming do not receive the support they need. My goal was to use design to bridge the gap, interweaving growing, learning and eating to benefit the individual, community, and the farmers. I created an urban farm center where a community could come together to grow, learn about food, and eat, thus transforming organic food from an end product to part of our daily lives. The farm and the farmer’s market introduce and educate people to locally grown and healthy food products. Three different restaurant experiences - casual, demonstration dining and cook & eat - bring people together over good food and address what to do after the food is picked. The biggest challenge was creating harmony and promoting interaction between four distinct spaces. I used visual connections to create interest and shared materials between spaces to promote continuity. This project is a cumulation of skills I’ve learned over my undergraduate years creating visually interesting and spatially connected experiences that achieved my goal.
