PIT & BALCONY COMMUNITY THEATRE Project Objective: To develop a new branding system for Pit & Balcony Community Theatre. Designer: Emily VanKirk Contact Info: emily.vankirk@yahoo.com
(989) 392-9154
COMPANY OVERVIEW Client: Pit and Balcony Community Theatre In 1932, seven members of The American Association of University Women (AAUW) met and read plays in their homes. Mrs. CH Brand offered the ballroom in her home in the present Historic District at 129 S. Granger for two-one act plays. By 1933, the theatre group grew to over 200 members. At this time the men who had been invited to appear in plays decided they wanted to have a say in the organization so the group established Pit and Balcony. Between 1942-1943, $15,000 was borrowed for capital improvements, but a fire struck on January 19, 1943. There were $11,000 in damages and only a partial coverage by the insurance. After the fire the group moved to 413 Court, where rehearsals took place. Performances were presented at the Masonic Temple in Saginaw and continued there through 1945. In 1948, a vacant lot at Throop and Hamilton was purchased and a building campaign began. Construction began in 1949. A building company did the basic construction and P & B members did the rest, roofing, partitions, stage and lobby. In the fall the first play in the new building was presented. Ticket sales went up and down over the next couple decades, but in the 80s the group celebrated its 50th anniversary and remodeling of the lobby took place to get it to its present setup. The theater now continues to produce quality plays with the help of dedicated volunteers.

DESIGN BRIEF
FINAL LOGOS
Client: Pit and Balcony Community Theatre What is the business objective: The objective for this project would be to create a new branding system for the theatre. They want to have a new logo, stationary system, packaging system, and many other novelty items. I would like people to understand what the theatre is all about and why they should go to this theatre versus another local theatre.
C O M M U N I T Y
T H E A T R E
Target Audience: This branding system will target anyone who is interested in theatre or who wants to learn more. The needs for this would be people who want to know as much as they can about the theatre. Competition: This client has a very competitive market. There are many local theatres in the Great Lakes Bay area with well established theatres. With this new branding system there could be great potential for this theatre. Some of the competitors include the Temple Theatre, State Theatre, Bay City Players, The Dow Event Center, Midland Center for the Arts, and many more. Some of the strengths these companies have that separates them is that they are well established and known around the area. Some of their weaknesses include not having a strong logo or not as much advertising for different events. Key Consumer Benefit: The product delivered would very good because it will then show guests what the theatre is all about. It will also show the new logo and will give everyone a new look to establish. The problems that would happen with this are that if the logo changes or any other packaging, people might not recognize it. Support: I believe that this brand development would help out the theatre tremendously because it will give it a new fresh look that would capture the audience.
