Fish and Loaves takes place inside a former Methodist Church. It reopened as a non-profit restaurant in 2001 to serve the community with fresh food and faith. The menu is influenced by the Biblical Era with modern options as well. The Founders wanted to help people affected by disparity in Philadelphia by renovating the abandoned church building on Chestnut Street. This is a dining hall that is also the city’s community center for the homeless, unemployed, and sick so they can also have a fine dining experience. Volunteers and donations support the operations of Fish and Loaves.
Inside the church is a bar in the center with dining tables on either side.
Fish and Loaves 4
Fish and Loaves is designed to serve the hungry and the poor in Philadelphia. Matthew’s story about Jesus offering fish and loaves to feed five thousand people is where the name of the restaurant originates from. restaurant research statrted when looking at Philabundance’s mission to drive hunger from our communities today and Christianity’s purpose to spread God’s message. This restaurant would be self-sufficient and sustainable in many ways. It would focus on feeding nutritious meals, generate work for the unemployed, provide loans for the sick, and house the homeless or refugees.
