LINE UP Nick Grimshaw Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Grimmy will be tearing up the Closing Party main stage with a mixture of rock, punk, dance anthems and drum & bass. Bringing fresh sounds to the stage and the personality everyone loves, prepare yourself for something special!

Toddla T MistaJam Arguably one of the best DJ’s out there at the moment. BBC Radio 1/1XTRA’s MistaJam has never met a party he hasn’t smashed. Representing the best underground music on the radio and playing across the world. MistaJam will have all bases covered when he comes to UWE.

DJing around the world, Toddla T (aka Tom Bell) is one of the leading lights of UK dance music. With a slew of remixes under his belt (Hot Chip, Gyptian, Gorillaz and Major Lazer), he’s the star of his own Toddla TV, not to mention his recent launch of music label “Girls” and a weekly slot on Radio 1.

M.O Finally! The answer to make girl-bands cool again are making their way to UWE Freshers! Take a pinch of Destiny’s Child, add some incredibly catchy bass – let’s not forget the classic choreographed dance routines! We present M.O. High up in the UK Top 40, M.O have recently received a lot of hype from BBC Radio 1/1XTRA – these girls sure know how to move. All that’s left to say is, get ready to jump!

Melissa Steel The 20-year-old Bradford born starlet is set to grace the Closing Party main stage. Set for big things, Melissa has featured on “Way We Are” by dance act Kove and her debut single “Kisses for Breakfast” featuring Popcaan is out now!

Majestic Majestic started out as an MC performing on the North London nightclub circuit at just fifteen years old. He rapidly broke through to the UK Garage scene, now venturing into House and Drum & Bass performing with leading artists such as High Contrast, Shy FX, Skream and Nero to name a few!

YOUR EDUCATION

“Together we can build a united learning community!”

Every spring we hold the Student Led Teaching Awards to recognise staff across the University. If you would like to nominate a staff member please email their name and your reasons to studentreps@uwe.ac.uk

Hi everyone, my name is JJ and I’m your elected Vice-President Education for this academic year. My role is to ensure that your voice is heard on all things relating to your academic experience and education whilst at UWE. As a student at UWE, you can have your say about the education you will be receiving. Whether you think something needs to be changed on your course, or have ideas for how the university could help you study better, we’re here to listen to you. I will be working alongside Amelia (Education Officer) and we believe that together, we can build strong learning communities and help to make a difference to students’ lives. You can find me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, and get in touch by email – I’d love to hear your views!

Amelia Campbell – Education Officer I hope to focus on issues such as reducing stress and anxiety around exam time, ensuring that students are fully aware of study areas and feel prepared.

STUDENT REPS

Ensuring students are at the heart of all academic decisions Want to join us? www.uwesu.org/reps facebook.com/pages/UWE-Student-Reps studentreps@uwe.ac.uk

Come and chat to us at the Freshers’ Fair, find more out online or drop us an email.

Student Reps are the vital link between students, the university and the Students’ Union. Every course at every level will have at least one Student Rep. They actively seek your views on your student experience and feed back to the University. Ensuring you get what you want from your course! Student Reps are elected in the first few weeks of term and anyone can put themselves forward. Your lecturers will provide more information, so listen out for the opportunity to get involved. Don’t worry if you haven’t done anything like this before as the Students’ Union provides all the support and guidance you will need. It’s a great chance to enhance your personal development and it looks great on your CV. So if the idea of representing your course appeals to you, make a difference and become a Student Rep!

Campus Officer: To be elected Glenside campus is just three miles north of Bristol city centre, close to the vibrant student community of Fishponds. Home to UWE’s Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, Glenside offers excellent teaching facilities such as inter-professional simulation suites and one of the best health care libraries in England.

From improving bus services to reducing hidden costs, together we can make a difference! Hidden Costs Campaign

Your Students’ Union gathered lots of feedback last year on what costs students were paying on top of tuition fees. We took the evidence to the university and this has resulted in:

Seventy-five pounds credit

The Only Way is Wessex? For many years, student feedback has focused heavily on the journey to and from university when travelling by bus. ‘The Only Way is Wessex?’ was a joint consultation by your Students’ Union and UWE. As a result of your feedback, we wrote a report, which has helped change the services of both Wessex and First bus operators. With later running buses, increased frequency and improved reliability being promised by the bus companies.

The General Election – May 2015 The UK parliamentary elections are coming up in 2015 and we want you play your part. Too often young people have been let down and disenfranchised by their elected representatives in Westminster. We will be offering politicians a chance to rebuild our trust by making promises they can keep. This year we are going to be lobbying candidates and MPs in the city on the build up to the General Election. We want communities voting with students on the decisions that shape a shared future. We’ll be doing voter registration rallies both for you so that you are on the register with a strong youth voice in Bristol ready to vote in May but also with the community to make wider change. We’ll also be looking at how we can capture your voices to make bigger change for your city. www.gov.uk/register-to-vote Deadline to register is 6th May 2015
