Protect Yourself From Router Hacking

1.Change

Your Router’s Admin Credentials: As you all know that routers have username and password so that you can access your router’s settings. Remember, if you get a router then immediately change the username and password. Because, Wi-Fi hackers know the manufacturer’s default admin credentials so they can easily reach your Wi-Fi network and can log into your router with that information. But if you don’t update your login credentials when you get your router, then hackers can hack your router password. Hence, it is advised you should set a new and strong password for your router.

2.Enable WPA2 (or WPA3) Encryption: WPA2 and WPA3, is the Wi-Fi Protected Access security protocol which secures your router against unauthorized access with AES encryption. Any router you buy should be WPA2-enabled and may have advance feature of WPA3. You should enable WPA2 or WPA3 encryption so that nobody connects to your protected router without your consent. And it is advised that you should also set a strong password.

3. Change Your Router’s Network Name (SSID): When you are setting up your router, you should change your admin credentials, set a strong password and also change the SSID. SSID is service set identifier, which is basically the name of your Wi-Fi network. Normally, new routers show the brand of the router in the SSID and hackers can use this information to crack your password. You must set a custom network name so that hackers cannot be able to know which type of router you have. You should create long and complex Wi-Fi network name.

4. Disable WPS: As many routers also have WPS (Wi-Fi protected setup) which means you can enter a PIN or push a button to connect, without using the password. But you should disable WPS, because anybody can physically touch your router and can push the WPS button to connect. And also if you keep a short PIN, then it will be easier to crack with a brute-force attack.
