A Different Model for Health Care
In late 2022, Dr. Aaron Watters opened Liberty MD with his wife and practice manager, Wendy Watters.
Liberty MD is a different kind of doctor’s office. It is unique because it uses an alternative payment model called Direct Primary Care (DPC). DPCs provide accessible and personalized primary care services directly to patients. They don’t accept insurance. Instead, patients pay a monthly membership fee.
its wholesale pricing for lab testing and basic medications. Plus, you don’t have to contend with the headache of wondering what insurance will cover.
The clinic also offers additional services to improve health and quality of life, like regenerative medicine treatments for non-surgical injuries, nutritional therapies, bioidentical hormone replacement and more.
At Liberty MD, membership offers patients unlimited access to Dr. Watters. You can expect same-day or next-day appointments and see the doctor as frequently as necessary. If you have an urgent issue, you can reach the doctor after hours or on weekends and holidays.
What drew Dr. Watters to this model is the freedom it offers him and his patients. By taking insurance out of the equation, he’s not limited by their reimbursement restrictions. As a result, he often sees his patients more frequently and can spend more time with them at each appointment. As a result, he finds patients seem less rushed and feel greater freedom to discuss all their concerns. Sometimes that is key to uncovering issues.
“A DPC doctor I know found cancer in a patient, and he asked her, ‘Why didn’t you tell someone about this symptom before?’” said Dr. Watters. “She said, ‘It just never reached my top 10 list. It was on my C list.’ She didn’t know it was cancer. It wasn’t causing her significant pain, so she didn’t mention it. I want your C list. I want your A, B, C, X, Y and Z list.”
Liberty MD doesn’t just make more time in each appointment with the doctor; patients also receive clarity about the cost of their care. Membership entails unlimited appointments, an annual physical, diagnostics and procedures like EKG, body fat analysis, breathing treatments, lesion removal, minor fractures and more.
Patients know upfront what their healthcare costs are. Any services outside the membership have transparent pricing, and Liberty MD passes on
Dr. Watters’ is proud that his practice offers patients an alternative to traditional healthcare models. He loves the time he can spend with his patients and feels blessed that he can help them with their health.
“My MO is to get people better, naturally and holistically,” said Dr. Watters. “I want people to feel good and live their lives and be happier.”
As a DPC, Liberty MD is designed to address a patient’s primary care needs. They recommend that patients continue to carry a major medical plan should they require hospitalization or referral to a specialist.
