EMBARK ON A CAREER IN THE BOATING INDUSTRY

The Boating Industry Association has developed a Marine Industry Careers Guide to help you identify the types of jobs available and the training you can get to help you pursue a career in the industry. The good news is that many people make a good living working around boats and doing what they love.

The boating industry values people with a wide range of backgrounds and with diverse skills, and it offers the chance to work with local, national and international companies.

In such a dynamic and diverse industry there's no end to the opportunities available; from small craft construction to superyachts and beyond, from engines to sails, from boat building to fitout, repair and maintenance, from marine equipment to marine electronics, from sales and marketing to management, from marina services to marine tourism.

As a BIA-member’s apprentice, you’d be eligible to compete for the annual Apprentice of the Year award.

The technical training you’ll receive in Australia is world-class; the skills you’ll learn are highly transportable, so if you’d like to travel overseas, there is a good chance of picking up work wherever you go — just be sure to check on your visa status that you’re allowed to work.

And when you come home again, the experience and knowledge you gained overseas are likely to be attractive to local employers too: win-win! SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Under the heading of boat-building, your job description could include Production Manager, Naval Architect or Engineer, Materials & Parts Logistics, Shipwright, Boat Builder, Laminator, Sheetmetal Fabricator, Boilermaker, Welder or Spray Painter.
