Ahmed Hayman My Country

January 23, 2011: I was on my way to Denmark to study photojournalism knowing that something might happen in Egypt. I was sure that it would only last for two days maximum, as usual. This week was terrible for me, seeing my country in a real revolution and I’m out in a quite place. I went back on the February 3, 2011, to document the history of my country.

Being there as an Egyptian and photographer was really important for me, seeing people fighting and protecting Tahrir square. Finally, they felt they need their Egypt back. I couldn’t believe how peaceful it was, everyone was happy and creative and well organized.

February 11, 2011: Was one of the most historical dates in the history of Egypt; Mubarak’s resignation. People were running in the streets, tears, smiles, dancing everywhere...

I remember the day after his resignation. I felt something really weird, the air smelt different. I could breath freedom. Finally, my country is back.
