GRADUATE STUDIES With a large variety of postgraduate programs, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) is destined to become one of the top research and teaching universities in the region. As the skills and knowledge gained in graduate level programs are becoming critical factors in career development and professional advancement, interest in graduate education is increasing rapidly. Graduate education and research provides opportunities to study significant issues in a variety of fields. Graduate students have the possibility to choose the topics that they wish to research. The graduate programs at Eastern Mediterranean University have been designed to enable our students to develop innovative solutions to problems in their academic disciplines. Our academic departments, faculties and schools continuously update and develop graduate programs that address the needs of the academic disciplines and that of professionals in their fields. Our graduate programs range from science and engineering to social sciences and arts. Each graduate student works with an advisor who acts as a mentor and provides individualized guidance relevant to the student's aspirations. Note The duration of a PhD degree program may range between 4 to 10 semesters for full time students and 6 to 14 semesters for part time students depending on the program and research plan of the student.

General Admission Requirements Applications for the graduate programs at EMU are accepted twice a year for Fall and Spring semesters. Prospective applicants are required to have a bachelor's degree for master’s programs with a CPGA ≥ 2.50 out of 4.00. For some programs such as professional degree programs, CGPA’s of 2.00-2.49 may be acceptable, subject to Faculty Board decision. Applicants for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs must possess a master‘s degree. Further details on additional program specific requirements are available from the academic departments hosting the program.

English Language Requirement For master’s programs that are taught in English and all PhD programs, evidence of English language ability is required. If you do not have a valid English language qualification that meets the EMU requirements presented in the table below, your level will be assessed by examination at EMU. Based on this assessment, one of the following will apply: • you will be exempt from the English Language Support Program and begin your postgraduate study directly; • you will study English courses together with graduate program courses; • you will study intensive English courses first (with no graduate program courses) before you start your graduate program. Research Assistantships & Scholarship Opportunities 1) Every semester each faculty allocates a number of research assistant positions to graduate students. Depending on the number of available research assistant positions in the departments, applicants may be considered for full-time or part-time research assistant. A full-time research assistant receives a salary and is exempt from paying tuition fee whereas a part-time assistant receives half of the salary that is received by full-time research assistant, and is exempt from half of the tuition fee, excluding the student fund, for a semester. Applicants are advised to contact the relevant academic department for application and evaluation procedures. 2) Large number of %50 tuition fee scholarships is available for new international students in master’s programs. 3) There are a limited number of PhD tuition fee scholarship available for new international and Turkish Republic students in each PhD program. 4) International students may also apply to very competitive TRNC state scholarship. Tuition Fee For information on tuition fees, please visit http://www.emu.edu.tr/grad. The tuition fee table shows the different types of fees you may need to pay during your study. In order to calculate the tuition fee for one semester, multiply each course fee with the number of courses you will register for that semester, and then add funds (health insurance, social activity fee etc.) to the amount.
