2pm–4pm Art in the Park. Draw your own Georgian square in this fun children’s art workshop.

2.30pm–4pm Fuinneamh Bounce. Test your coordination skills in group music-making with this giant 14 foot drum!

3pm–4.30pm Plants in the Park. Enjoy planting seedlings and learn about trees in this children’s event.

SHOWCASING DUBLIN’S HERITAGE DuBLiN CiViC TRuST is pleased to host its fifth annual DuBLiN GARDEN SQuARES DAy. Celebrating the architecture and landscape of the city’s squares, the event showcases this unique heritage asset as first laid out with St. Stephen’s Green in the 1660s, culminating in the glory of Mountjoy and Fitzwilliam Squares of the late Georgian period. Walk or cycle between the squares and discover the history of these unique gardens, their plants and wildlife, the people who once used them and the historic buildings that embrace them. All events are free of charge.

DUBLIN GARDEN SQUARES DAY PARNELL SQUARE

10am–4pm Visit the Abbey Presbyterian Church, the 1860s gothic landmark popularly known as Findlater’s Church. Enjoy an AV presentation with guides on-hand to inform visitors. No booking required.

10.30am–4pm No. 19 Parnell Square, irish Writers’ Centre presents ‘Circa Words’ celebrating Bloomsday. All welcome to take part in various literary events in this gracious Georgian mansion. No booking required.

11am James Kelly, architect and Chairman of Dublin Civic Trust, leads a guided tour through the fascinating architectural and landscape history of Dublin’s first Georgian square. Firstcome basis. Meet at the gates of the Garden of Remembrance.

12pm Architectural tour of Charlemont house, the 1760s mansion built for James Caulfield, now the Dublin City Gallery–The hugh Lane. Numbers limited on a first-come basis. Meet in the main entrance hall.

2pm Guided tour of No. 43 Parnell Square West. View the elegant interiors of this 1750s house, recently restored with a contemporary edge by Lyons Dermody Solicitors. Numbers limited on a first-come basis. Meet on the front steps.

2pm Design your own Georgian Garden Square – interactive children’s art workshop in the Dublin City Gallery – The hugh Lane. No booking required–only €5 for all materials.

2.30pm Art and stuccowork historian Joseph McDonnell leads a tour of the extraordinary Baroque chapel interior of the Rotunda hospital. Numbers strictly limited on a first-come basis. Meet outside the former Ambassador Cinema. Early arrival advised.

2.30pm–4.30pm Choral Festival in the Dublin City Gallery–The hugh Lane. Enjoy 12 spectacular choirs from the uSA, Wales, China, Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. No booking required.

MERRION SQUARE

10am–5pm No. 29 ESB Georgian house Museum open to the public for self-guided and guided tours. No booking required. 10.30am–5pm Fun children’s activity area, with giant games

in the morning and traditional sack races, croquet and more in the afternoon. East side of the square.

10.30am Walking tour of Merrion Square with Geraldine Walsh, Dublin Civic Trust, examining the development of the square. First-come basis. Meet at Oscar Wilde statue inside railings.

11.30am–1.30pm No. 63 Merrion Square, The Royal Society of Antiquaries of ireland. Wander through the elegant entrance hall to visit the recently restored Georgian rear garden. No booking required. 11.30am–1pm Enjoy traditional street-organ music in the formal garden at the centre of the square.

12pm and 2pm Natural history Museum family event ‘The Zoo in My Garden’. Join zoologist Catherine McGuinness for a special tour of the museum’s irish Room, celebrating all the species that live in local parks and gardens. No booking required. Wheelchair accessible. 12.30pm National Gallery of ireland tour of the Collection. Drop in to drawing spaces, with family packs and workshops available all day. No booking required. Entrance from Clare Street. 1pm–3pm Enjoy rousing music with the Blanchardstown Brass Band. East side of the square.

3pm onwards The hit Machine Drummers. Experience a deafening beat in the park!

FITZWILLIAM SQUARE

10am–5pm Enjoy a unique opportunity to view Dublin’s last remaining private square garden. Free access–no booking required.

12pm historical and architectural walking tour of the city’s smallest and most complete Georgian square with Graham hickey, Dublin Civic Trust. First-come basis. Meet at the dublinbikes station on the Pembroke Street side. 12.30pm–2.30pm Enjoy traditional Chinese wind music in the beautiful central garden of the square.

1.30pm–3.30pm Lawn bowling and croquet with Anne herlihy. All welcome to join in!

2.30pm–3.30pm Singing in the Square. Relax to the melodies of the Squares Day singers.

ST. STEPHEN’S GREEN

10.30am Tour the Green’s public park and its distinctive Victorian planting with OPW gardener Eileen Brennan. First-come basis. Meet at Fusiliers’ Arch at the top of Grafton Street. 1pm–6pm Tango Argentino dancing at the Bandstand. All welcome to watch or join in!

3.30pm Architectural tour of the early buildings of St. Stephen’s Green with architect Peter Keenahan. Learn about the Green’s speculative development and discover the surviving early houses lurking behind modified facades. First-come basis. Meet at Fusiliers’ Arch at the top of Grafton Street.

MOUNTJOY SQUARE

10am historical and architectural walking tour of Mountjoy Square and its houses’ decorative interiors with resident Karin O’Flanagan. Numbers limited on a first-come basis. Meet on the steps of No. 54 Mountjoy Square West.
