CVE Distributes Hand Sanitizer

Central Valley Electric Cooperative joined forces with other electric cooperatives in the state, the New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NMRECA), Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, and TriState Generation and Transmission Association to purchase hand sanitizer. The hand sanitizer was distributed between employees and other essential industries in our community, like first responders and healthcare workers.

Travis Sullivan, general manager of Southwestern Electric Cooperative in Clayton, reached out to Boot Hill Distillery in Dodge City, Kansas who stopped brewing whiskey to help make much needed hand sanitizer.

The group of co-ops purchased 250 gallons of hand sanitizer and distributed it among New Mexico electric cooperatives. “CVE got 22 gallons and the intent, first off was to make sure we had enough hand sanitizer within each one of the co-ops,” stated Chuck Pinson, CVE general manager and NMRECA president. “We provide an essential service in terms of providing electricity,” Pinson said.

CVE also wanted to give hand sanitizer to healthcare personnel and first responders in our service area.

Some of the facilities CVE has donated hand sanitizer to include: • Goodlife Assisted Living Center • Artesia Healthcare and Rehab • Federal Law Enforcement

Training Center (FLETC) • Town of Hagerman • Town of Dexter • City of Roswell • Midway Volunteer Fire Dept. • Artesia Senior Center • Aspire • Renewed Wellness

This is an ongoing effort and we will continue to hand-out as much hand sanitizer as we can. Concern for our communities is a big part of what CVE does and we want to do our part to keep people safe.

Let’s Talk

The energy industry is undergoing rapid change, and technology is paving the way for innovation in the way energy is used, produced, stored and shared. While the changing energy market has created more options for consumers, it has also resulted in more utility scams and misleading information.

Avoid Phone Scams:

A common phone scam typically begins with a phone number that appears to be from a valid utility company. The scammer will claim that you have a past due account and threaten to disconnect service unless you pay over the phone right then. Please note, CVE DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE. Never give your banking or personal information over the phone to someone you did not call. If you have any questions or concerns about your energy bill, please call us directly at 575-746-3571.

Avoid Solar Scams:

We recently heard from our members about a solar company calling and stating they are working with Central Valley Electric Cooperative to switch customers to solar. They are claiming to have access to customers credit scores and that they have an appointment to come to your house to discuss solar. If you get a call like this, please know that CVE is not working with any solar company at this time, and we do not give out any of our members personal information.

If you receive a call like this, please give us a call and if necessary call your local law enforcement. If you are interested in installing solar at your home give us a call at 575- 746-3571 to discuss your options.

In this ever-changing environment, it’s important to remember you have a trusted energy advisor - your local electric cooperative. We are a community-focused organization that works to efficiently deliver affordable, reliable and safe energy to our members.

Remember we are just a phone call or click away, so please reach out with any questions you have—we’re here to help.

Renewable Energy Portfolio

In 2019, Central Valley Electric Cooperative received about 70 percent of it wholesale power from Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS), and 10.8 percent of that power was tagged as renewable energy. The remaining 30 percent of CVE’s 2019 wholesale power came from Western Farmers ELectric Cooperative (WFEC), and 7.5 percent was from renewable energy resources. CVE also received 13,281 mega-watt hours of energy from hydroelectric generation resources provided by the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). The co-op received renewable energy credits (REC) associated with the renewable energy purchased from SPS, WFEC and WAPA.

CVE also has a photovoltaic (PC) water pumping rate available to its members. This rate is for water pumping systems used for livestock wells and other small needs. The estimated energy generated from the eight PV systems on this rate in 2019 was 65,000 kilowatt hours (kWh). This amount is based on nameplate information and is calculated using a recognized standard allocation of 2,500 kWh’s per kilowatt (kW) of installed capacity (NMPRC 17.9.572.23 (J)). In addition, in 2019 CVE purchased 20,771 kWh’s of renewable energy from members who have renewable energy systems interconnected to the co-op’s system.
