Has COVID-19 Financially Impacted Your Nonprofit Organization?

If so, for the ninth consecutive year, CDEC will award a charitable grant of up to $5,000 to an active account holder and qualifying organization.

In general, 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible. Select organizations that are not a 501(c)(3) may also be eligible, including schools and government organizations such as counties or municipalities and their agencies or departments, as long as the grant serves a public purpose consistent with program guidelines listed on the application.

Funds must be used to benefit a CDEC service-area community or communities in one, or more of the following ways: ▶ Education ▶ The Environment ▶ Energy Efficiency and/or Renewable Energy ▶ Economic Development

If your organization qualifies and your grant request falls within the guidelines, we encourage you to apply, no later than 5 p.m., Fri., July 31, 2020. Download the CDEC/CoBank “Sharing Success” grant application at cdec.coop

For more information, contact Mac Juarez in CDEC’s Member Services Department at (505) 285-6656 or mjuarez@cdec.coop

Manage Your CDEC Account, Near or Afar, with SmartHub

Account management is always at your fingertips with the SmartHub app.

Use SmartHub to pay your CDEC electric and Red Bolt Broadband monthly statements, as well as manage your energy use (a big plus, given that we are all spending more time at home because of state COVID-19 restrictions!).

SmartHub is available through CDEC’s website cdec.coop and as a mobile app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Marketplace.

Making payments through SmartHub is fast and easy. As soon as you log in, you can view your current bill, bills from previous months, or even the past year, if you want to compare costs. Viewing your billing history lets you see how your use is trending over time, allowing you to better understand your bill, monitor electric use and become more energy efficient (another big plus, given that we continue to stay home more because of COVID-19). And don’t forget to click the links to view bill inserts and other important CDEC billing announcements.

People who depend on electrical equipment to treat medical issues should also have a plan, CDEC Customer Service Manager Donna Venable said.

“In some cases, this may mean purchasing a back-up power supply such as a generator, or going to a health-care facility with back-up power,” Venable said.

It’s also important to remember to turn off and unplug all appliances — even those on surge protectors — to avoid damage from surges when power lines are re-energized. Leave one light on to show you when power is restored.

If you use a generator, make sure it has a manual or automatic switch that disconnects it from the main power lines. If not, use the main switch on your service panel to cut power. A generator that remains connected to main lines can backfeed into them and shock unsuspecting line workers.

CDEC crews try their best to respond in the timeliest manner to troubleshoot an outage. But sometimes, it’s not as easy as reconnecting a fallen line. Sometimes a pole breaks or a

Steal away a day on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. It’s a breathtaking journey that zig zags through steep mountain canyons, the high desert, and lush meadows. The train departs from Antonito, Colorado or Chama, New Mexico and returns to the origination point after a hearty lunch in Osier. Feel the rails underneath. Hear the bright steam whistle. And leave all those worries behind.
