CDEC’s 2020 Annual Meeting Set for April 25 C ontinental Divide Electric Co-op’s annual meeting of its membership is Saturday, April 25, at Grants High School. The meeting will be called to order at 8:00 a.m. by CDEC Board President Keith Gottlieb. Registration of the members will begin immediately, as will the Cibola General Hospital Health Fair and National Park Service Junior Ranger Day.
Registration and the pre-meeting festivities conclude at 11:00 a.m. This year, these activities will take place in the GHS new gymnasium. At promptly 11:15 a.m., CDEC’s business meeting will convene, inside the GHS auditorium.
“We encourage members from across CDEC’s service territory—Cibola, McKinley, Valencia, Sandoval and Bernalillo counties—to register and stay for the business meeting to hear about the co-op’s business affairs. Arrive early enough to take advantage of the offerings by health-oriented vendors and others,” CDEC’s Member Services Manager Mac Juarez said. In addition to the business meeting, other activities include: • The Grants Recreation Dept.’s monthly “fun run,” which starts near the Grants High School football field bleachers off Roosevelt Avenue. The 5K walk starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 7:45 a.m. and the 10K bicycle race at 7:50 a.m.; • Cibola General Hospital lab draws between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; • National Park Service Junior Ranger Day between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; • A blood drive by vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) in front of the Second Street lobby entrance to the new gym; • And, a performance by The Dance Center at 10:00 a.m. The number of CDEC members needed for a quorum is arrived at in late March when the co-op is required to audit the number of active co-op members—account holders—in each district to ensure they fall within the proper boundaries for registration and voting purposes.
In addition, a team of employees researches the co-op’s database to ensure members with multiple accounts receive only one certificate of registration. Per CDEC bylaws, members are allowed only one vote, regardless of the multiple services they may have. Every year, three CDEC trustee seats are up for election. The window to petition to be a candidate had not yet closed at the time the April enchantment was printed. That also occurs in late March.
When the co-op is unable to register the number of members needed for a general quorum, board of trustee elections can still proceed, if a quorum of 3 percent of members from that district is registered at the annual meeting.
CDEC is not proposing any bylaw amendments to its membership, this year. Finally, CDEC will conduct prize drawings throughout the business meeting with this year’s grand prize of $1,500. Co-op members must be present to win a prize.
