Capital Credits Allocated
Sierra Electric Cooperative allocated 2022 patronage capital credits in the amount of $659,764.45.
Capital credits are the excess revenues—or margins—a co-op allocates to each member who was billed for service during a year in which margins were earned. Capital credits are retained by the co-op as capital for a period of time, reducing the co-op’s need to borrow money. Allocated capital credits reflect members ownership in Sierra Electric.
Allocation is the process of assigning shares to members. When the Board of Trustees determines that a portion of allocated capital credits are no longer needed as capital, the credits are retired, and checks are issued to the members.
This allocation is the margins the Cooperative realized for the year and the allocations are based on the proportion of kilowatt-hours each member used during the 2022 year.
