Disney’s Frozen & Encanto on Ice

READING IS FUN — AND EARNS A FREE TICKET TO DISNEY SHOW

Children: Start Your reading! Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto and Monster Jam have partnered with Atlanta area public libraries on a reading program that is easy and fun. Not only that, kids have the opportunity to earn a free ticket to Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto or Monster Jam, with the purchase of one adult ticket.

Children are encouraged to visit their nearest participating Atlanta Public Library branch to pick up a Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto or Monster Jam Reward Club Card that includes program specifics. Once five or more books are read, the child and their parent/guardian can take the Reward Club Card to State Farm Arena’s box office for Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto and redeem for the following performances: Sept. 21 at 7:30 PM, Sept. 22 at 7:30 PM or Sept. 23 10:30 AM.

AURORA THEATRE OFFERS COMEDY, IMPROV AND A CHRISTMAS SHOW

If the Hallmark Channel can air Christmas-themed shows in the summer, then The Lawrenceville Arts Center, home of the Aurora Theatre, can bring some holiday cheer a bit early as well. The Aurora is presenting Christmas Canteen July 23 at the LAC Courtyard. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs and have an evening of fun with spectacular music and lots of heart and humor.

There’s more going on than just music at the Aurora Theater in July. For instance, the Aurora Comedy Nights presents Rob Cleveland, while Dad’s Garage is partnering with Urban Clinic for A Dose of Comedy. Curious theatergoers can also join Aurora for Explore LAC, a backstage tour revealing all of the magic of theater and the inner workings of the fantastic, new facility.

July will also kick-off Aurora Theatre’s 27th season with events celebrating the classic Disney musical Mary Poppins which will take over the Lawrenceville Arts Center in August. Tickets will go on sale and a special Mary Poppins movie night will prepare audiences for the return of the world’s favorite nanny to the Aurora stage.

AUSSIE ROCK TO SOUL: CHASTAIN HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IN JULY

Cadence Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park is offering a variety of acts in July — everything from soul to pop to rock and even Australian rock. The Aussies, 5 Seconds of Summer: Take My Hand World Tour kick offs the month on July 1. The band has sold more than 10 million albums and two million tickets worldwide. Maze, an American soul singer, performs on July 9 with Frankie Beverly & The Isley Brothers while fan favorite Josh Groban takes over on July 16. Sheryl Crow with Keb’Mo’ will delight audiences on July 19 with Big Time Rush: Forever Tour coming into town on the 24th. The month will close out with Third Eye Blind: Summer Gods Tour 2022 on July 26.

The Atlanta Shakespeare Theatre Company’s A Midsummer Nights Dream

IT’S LITERALLY A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

If there are star-crossed lovers, a play within a play, fights and lots of mishaps, then you know it’s a Shakespearean play. The Atlanta Shakespeare Theater presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream — complete with a fairy king and queen, runaway lovers and a gaggle of amateur actors trying to rehearse a play in the forest. Not surprisingly, there is a comical cluster of confusion that eventually gets untangled. This classic is directed by Adam King, who is making his ASC mainstage directorial debut.The play will run through July 24 at its Peachtree Street location.

SANDY SPRINGS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER NAMES ITS FIRST THREE 2022-2023 HEADLINERS

The Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center announced its first three headliner shows for the 2022-2023 season at the Byers Theatre. Grammy Awardwinning singer, songwriter, musician, and composer Christopher Cross will perform an evening of pop hits Aug. 12.

KANSAS will sing its classics such as “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind”, on Sept. 30.

Neranenah Presents: Michael Feinstein Performs

the American Jewish Songbook, Feb. 5, 2023 in a show that was rescheduled from January 2022. Feinstein has built a dazzling career over the last three decades bringing the music of the Great American Songbook to the world. From recordings that have earned him five Grammy Award nominations to his Emmy-nominated PBS TV specials, his work as an educator and archivist defines him as one of the most important musical forces of our time.

GEORGIA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS AWARDS POET LAUREATE’S PRIZE

Georgia’s Poet Laureate Chelsea Rathburn, in collaboration with Georgia Council for the Arts, announced that Aran Sonnad-Joshi, an 11th grader at Midtown High School was named the the winner of the ninth annual Poet Laureate’s Prize.

The prize is awarded for an original poem written by a Georgia high school student. This annual program is designed to encourage students in grades nine through 12 to write original poems and engage in the art form of poetry. Finalists were also named: Emerson Keen, 10th grade at Decatur High School; Isabel Liu, 10th grade at Wheeler High School; JeongHyeon (Erica) Yun, 11th grade at McIntosh High School, and Lydia Ruth Witter, 12th grade at Decatur High School.

“Judging the Poet Laureate’s Prize is always difficult given the number of talented writers in high schools across the state, but it’s a rewarding challenge,” said Rathburn. “Reading this year’s submissions, I was reminded of poetry’s power to express complex insights and emotions in a small space, bringing personal experience to life for others. I’m thrilled to celebrate this year’s winner and finalists, and I suspect we’ll be reading more of their work in the future.”

TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND ROLLS BACK TO ATLANTA

The Tedeschi Trucks Band — the revered 12-piece collective founded by husbandand-wife duo, guitarist Derek Trucks and singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi — will play two nights at the Fox Theatre, July 15 and 16 with its Wheels of Soul Tour. Los Lobos and Gabe Dixon will be the supporting acts.

In addition to touring, the band announced its most ambitious studio project: I Am The Moon, which features four albums and 24 original songs. Inspired by a mythic Persian tale of star-crossed lovers, and emotionally driven by the isolation and disconnection of the pandemic era, the thematic “I Am The Moon” totals more than two hours of music, unfolding across a robust tapestry of genre-defying explorations that propel the treasured American ensemble into new and thrilling creative territory.
