Withings Aura + Sleep Sensor Accessory The Withings Aura is no ordinary alarm clock. I would hate to use the term “smart alarm” but the Aura truly is packing some brains, with a combination of light, music and a sleep sensor which recognises your optimal time to wake. I have never been a morning person, waking up has always felt like a form of torture to me whilst actually getting to sleep seems to be some kind of special power that I was born without, so the Withings Aura looked like a product designed with me in mind. On the Auras features, the light uses optimised colours to promote the secretion of sleep hormones with Its programmed sounds helping to induce sleep. The alarm works by gently increasing the light and/or audio to slowly and softly wake you. The sleep sensor discretely lays underneath your mattress and tracks sleep duration, sleep cycle variation (deep, light and REM) and time awake, waking you at the best time of your sleep cycle. On top of all that, the Aura sensors also record temperature, luminosity and ambient noise levels; all factors that can disrupt a good night’s sleep.
So what did we think? Firstly, the device has a stylish finish, looking more than at home on my bedside table. I love that it works with Spotify, meaning you can customise what audio you choose to wake you in the morning. I found the sleep inducing programme was relaxing but only if I was already tired. The sleep sensor is a bit hit and miss in terms of accuracy, but perhaps that is more down to the fact I have a king-size bed. The Alarm however is brilliant, I have found I am waking up more naturally, I don’t have that foggy feeling when I first get up, no I’m not springing out of bed with a big smile on my face but it has helped ease the pain of early mornings. The sleep sensor does provide some handy feedback but I don’t think it is worth the extra £100 you need to shell out for it, you can pick up an activity tracker with better accuracy for less. The alarm itself is great, anything that can make mornings a little less of a struggle is certainly worth the money in my eyes.
RRP £179.99

Pros • Gently wakes you with increased light and audio • Works with Spotify • Sleep inducing feature is relaxing
Cons • Can be complicated to set up • It is easy to move out of range of the sleep sensor • Only iOS compatible • The light isn’t dimmable

Withings Activite Pop The first thing you will notice with the Activite Pop is its sleek design, not only is it disguised as an analogue watch, but a rather handsome one at that. With its classic display it is hard to believe it does everything it says on the box. It shows you your activity in real time, tracks your sleep, running, swimming and even contains a silent alarm to get you up in the morning. There is a cool little dial underneath the watch face that works its way up from 0-100 to let you know how active you have been throughout the day; you can get more detailed feedback through the companion app (iOS and Android compatible). The straps are interchangeable, so for £35 you can change up the colour
with 3 extra straps in teal, orange and aubergine. The product is also compatible with a rather attractive looking leather strap that comes in brown or black, though setting you back a hefty £100. The positives on the pop are, you can forget you are wearing it, the battery doesn’t need to be charged (average life 6months) and both the swim and run features are automatically detected. Activite Pop doesn’t come without its problems- for example, when pushing a push chair, the device doesn’t register, it won’t work with cycling and the readings can be a bit all over the place- it seemed a bit tight with the step count (sometimes being as much as 300 steps out). The other annoying thing about the pop
www.withings.com was that the wrist strap discoloured after a few weeks, there were grubby marks along the edges that wouldn’t wipe off. While the Pops appearance is arguably its best feature, it was frustrating to see it degrade so quickly, the leather strap would probably last longer but at £100 its nearly as expensive as the fitness tracker itself. So in conclusion, if you are looking for a simple but stylish activity tracker, the Activate Pop is well worth a go. Whilst Its six-month battery life and auto detection features are incising, if its concise and detailed analysis you desire, this probably isn’t for you.

Gaems M155 Performance Gaming Monitor Pardon the pun but this little device has been a complete ‘Gaems’ changer for me and is one of my favourite items I have reviewed for GadgetHead as I use it near on every day. When I get home from work one of my favourite ways to unwind is to get on the Xbox One and have a few games of Fifa or Fallout, previously however I could only play on the main TV in the living room which inevitably led to a few altercations with the other half! The Gaems M155 has eradicated this and has allowed me to play my games while the lady of the house can happily catch up with Easterdale or Emmerenders.. The Gaems M155 Performance Gaming Monitor weighs less than 2 pounds so is easily transportable and contains a

15.5” HD LED Screen and measures less than 1” thick when included with its protective cover/stand. It is very easy to use, to power it up you need a USB port and it will play anything that has an HDMI output and to turn it on you simply press the red power button. To get volume you can plug into the jack with your headphones, I feel like a kid laying on my front gaming away and in my own little wold. I find there to be no lag on the monitor and was very impressed with the whole system, if you can relate to having to negotiate gaming time this is a bargain at RRP $169.99, what you still doing reading go buy one………now!!

Beaba - Babycook Beaba, the French company that has been behind the creative Babycook products since 1989, creates products for parents that aim to incorporate nutrition with convenience. The Babycook 4 in 1 food processor can defrost, reheat, blend, and will steam cook food in 15 minutes. It has a 1100mil capacity, and is teaming with well thought out features designed to make every stage of food preparation as easy as possible. One of my favourite features is that everything can be done with one hand; you will never fully appreciate how important this is until you have a smaller, bossier version of yourself demanding three things at once! Another useful feature is the manual cyclone-effect blade, which provides tailor made mixing by allowing you to choose between smooth, puree or chunks depending on your child’s age. The steaming basket can be removed with a nifty plastic handle that slides through the top of the steamer, and also doubles as a spatula for stirring and serving the food. The Babycook
automatically switches off when it is done and will flash and beep to let you know, so you don’t have to monitor it whilst you wrestle your child into their high chair. All of the accessories are dishwasher safe, which makes cleaning down just as easy as the preparation. It is even compact in design, so it does not take up much space on your worktop. The Babycook is available in 5 distinct colours (we were testing out the Neon). I would prefer to see some more neutral colour options; an all-black or all-white design would help the appliance to blend into my kitchen. However, if you don’t like the look of the Babycook out on your worktop, it can be easily packed away into a cupboard. I really liked the Babycook; Beaba have clearly tried to consider everything a parent needs. It makes the preparation of nutritious meals quick and fuss free – beyond physically spoon feeding my children as well, I don’t know how it could be better value for money! RRP £99.99

Pros • Steams, blends (to 3 different consistencies) defrosts and reheats • Automatically turns itself off, with light and sound indication • Can all be used with one hand • Dishwasher safe • Compact and lightweight • Simple to use • Available in 5 colourful designs

Another disappointing aspect of the models are the flimsy and cheap looking connecting wires, raising the question, are the models durable? The build quality of the iTouchsure is also pretty poor, it feels and looks cheap and for nearly £70 I would expect better quality. The Elise is slightly better but still made of a thin plastic. Aside from the poor design qualities of both these machines, they are effective, improving pelvic floor muscle strength and tone. Sure RRP

KitSound Euphoria Bluetooth Earphones KitSound Euphoria in-ear earphones connect via Bluetooth and free you from being tethered to your mp3 player or smartphone, additionally featuring an in-line microphone and multi-functional button so you can answer your calls. What’s in the box? Well you get your earphones as well as a collection of different sized earbuds to ensure the perfect fit (sadly no memory foam ones which I find the most comfortable and the best at noise cancellation). You are provided with a very presentable hard case to keep everything safe, containing inner pockets as extra storage space for earbuds and chargers. The packaging is, aesthetically, very pleasing. The earbuds are encased in metal, giving them a stylish finish, whilst at the same time they are light and comfortable to wear. The multifunctional button however, is a very flimsy plastic which gives the
product a cheap feel. After only a couple of weeks the buttons became discoloured as the paint wore off. The most important thing when it comes to earphones is the quality of the audio they produce. One of the things listed on the box is that the Euphoria have enhanced bass, now I don’t know what they have enhanced it from exactly, a Nokia 3310 perhaps? The bass sounded synthetic, flat and very over powering. I also found the buttons that controlled the volume becoming inconsistent after only a month of use (taking numerous taps to compute). If you are a serious ‘bass junky’ the Euphoria might prove disappointing, for the £100 price tag I expected better. As a Bluetooth earphone they work well, they easily connect to your device, the microphone is good and they are comfortable to wear. It is in the quality of the audio which lets this product down. Maui Jim - Red Sands Sunglasses Maui Jim are known for creating beautiful sunglasses that not only look stylish, but boast some intelligent lenses to boot. The Red Sands sunglasses are rectangular framed with 59mm eyes, 17mm bridge and a 140mm temple, making them best suited to round, oval and heart shaped faces. We were lucky enough to test out the matte black frame with a neutral grey lens; these combined options create a simple, timeless look that complement almost any style. The matte finish applied to the thin, lightweight injected nylon frame gives the glasses a satisfying feel, as well as making them
comfortable to wear over long periods of time. When it comes to Maui Jim as a company, what always impresses are their high quality lenses. The neutral grey lens, along with all Maui Jim lenses, features the PolarizedPlus2 technology; this treatment wipes out 99.9% of glare, 100% of harmful UV and also boosts colour perception. The Red Sands lenses are made from MauiPure; a thin, ultra-light material that has been treated with CLEARSHEL, a silicone-based hard coat that protects lenses from scratches and increases their durability. The neutral grey lenses are

particularly effective against direct light, which makes them a smart choice for driving. The polarisation causes the world to pop; I wore them whilst running and they produced a wonderful depth of field, highlighting lumps and bumps in the road that my normal glasses flatten into potential trip hazards. There really wasn’t anything that we didn’t love about the Red Sands; they were light, comfortable, had perfect clarity and on top of that, a stylish design - they really are the full package. Gunnars - Trooper Gaming Glasses The Trooper glasses are designed specifically for gaming. They come with the option of tinted and prescription lenses, and a choice of frame and even pupillary distance you can custom design these glasses to make them perfect for your needs. We were testing out the amber-tinted lens with the onyx frame. My first reaction to my reflection was “Wow, I look like a geeky Ali G!” and strangely enough, geeky Ali G really suited me. The black onyx frames could put some people off; the transparent grey smoke frames provide an alternative option for people who like a subtler look. The nylon temple sleeves and adjustable silicon nose pads help the glasses stay put no matter how much I jumped about and yelled at the screen (things always get intense when I play Rayman). The lenses are wide, giving you an unobstructed view and good peripheral vision ideal for fast-paced shoot ‘em ups, and the frames are designed to bow out around the head so that they can comfortably integrate a headset. The glasses come with a soft microfiber bag that can also be used to clean off any finger prints.
The build quality of the glasses feels strong yet flexible, but I would have liked to see a hard case included for the price, as the fabric bag offers little more than scratch protection. The Troopers are a good-looking, tactile and durable pair of gaming glasses that can be custom designed to your prescription needs as well as being super comfortable. Altogether, they are good value for money. RRP £69.99

ReSound Unite Phone Clip+ ReSound is an American company that produces hearing aids and accessories to improve the lives of those with hearing loss. The Unite Phone Clip+ is a little gizmo that streams phone calls and audio straight to a ReSound hearing aid. You need to download the ReSound Control app onto your phone (compatible with iOS and Android), from which you are then able to control the volume of one or two hearing aids separately, creating the perfect level of volume for your needs. The Unite is easy to set up and use; the audio streams clearly and without any issues. As well as phone calls, you can stream music or audio from
your phone or any other Bluetooth device, and are able to connect to two devices at once if you wish. You can even mute the microphone, which switches off any background noise and allows you to focus solely on what you are streaming. Unfortunately, the design has some flaws. The Unite comes with a crocodile clip that allows you to attach it to your clothing or seat belt, but I would worry about this clip permanently marking my clothing. Also, the cord that allows you to wear the device around your neck is cheap, and I have my doubts that it would last intact for long. Perhaps the most frustrating issue was
www.resound.com that the person at the other end of the phone sometimes couldn’t hear me properly. We couldn’t understand what it was making the connection so temperamental, as sometimes it worked perfectly. We also found the buttons unresponsive at times, and they often needed to be clicked twice to get a reaction. These issues made the product unreliable and often exasperating to use. It is a brilliant idea but these problems need to be ironed out before it is a strong product. RRP

Pros • Streams calls and audio to your hearing aid • Cancels out background noise • Two devices can be connected at once • Use the phone hands free • Easy to set up
Cons • Unstable connection meant the other person couldn’t always hear you clearly • Cheap neck cord • The clip puts holes in clothes • Unresponsive buttons

KitSound Malmo Bluetooth Speaker The Malmo speaker comes with the option to connect via Bluetooth, NFC or a 3.5 mm aux cable. The device will ask you to you select which connection mode you need; confusingly, instead of the standard Bluetooth symbol, this option is marked ‘BT’, but it pairs up easily and even allows you to answer calls whilst connected (although a speaker system blasting my mum’s voice as she describes her cat’s latest kill is something that I and my neighbours could have done without!) My first impression of the Malmo was that it had a cool design, with smooth edges and a brushed aluminium finish on top. However, when it comes to speakers, what matters is the sound. The Malmo produces a round, punchy bass and rich, clear mid-tones. When the volume is turned right up, the high tones acquire a buzz behind them, but you don’t have to turn it down too far to get a more level sound. Even so,
that booming bass can often swallow up the high range. The button panel on the top of the Malmo isn’t very responsive, and there are no satisfying lights or click sounds to indicate that it has registered a command, which I found a little frustrating. Thankfully, it does also come with a remote control that was far more responsive. It’s a shame that the Malmo doesn’t a have battery mode, as this limits where it can be used. It doesn’t quite produce the room-filling sound that you would get with a sound bar, and doesn’t have the portability of our other Bluetooth speaker, so I’m not sure if it would ever have a place in our home. Saying that, it is a solid speaker that is good value for money and could also be an ideal companion for a computer, especially if you like your thumping bass. RRP £100
www.kitsound.co.uk
Pros • Looks stylish • Built in USB charging port to charge your phone/device • Two three-inch drivers and 30 Watts produce rich bass and midtones • Remote control • Easy setup • Good value for money
Cons • Has to be plugged into the mains • High end gets swallowed by the bass at high volumes • Buttons on the speaker aren’t very responsive

Lumie - Bodyclock Iris 500 Lumie has produced lamps to tackle seasonal affective disorder (SAD) since 1991 and were the creators of the world’s first wake up light, which brought light therapy into the mainstream. The Iris 500 goes one step further by involving a new sense in the waking up process; smell. The Iris has two removable aromatherapy chambers for sunrise and sunset oils (oils not included) that can be used with continuous or intermittent diffusion. The idea is that one oil will help to relax the body into a natural sleep and the other will wake you up with a boost of energy. It also has many of the great features that we have come to expect from Lumie; 15, 20, 30, 45, 60 or 90-minute sunset/sunrise settings to wind you down and wake you up naturally, a nightlight feature, snooze, remote control and a power failure back-up
that allows you go to sleep without worrying that your alarm won’t wake you up on time. It also comes with a clever security option that turns its light on at random intervals, for when you are away from the house for long periods of time. The Iris is compact and looks attractive and unobtrusive on my bedside table. You can set it suit your week with 7-day programmable alarms. However, if you have to change these regularly then you may find the programming a little tedious; it is quite complicated and at the start you will need to keep the manual to hand, but with a little practice it does become easier. One thing I was disappointed to find was that there were no audio options; the only alarm sound is a jarring electronic beep, which slightly defeats the purpose of a gentle wake up. I would love to see an option of
white noise added to the relaxing and waking up modes. As for the aromatherapy, I feel that it genuinely helped in the morning alongside the sunrise light; I woke up feeling energised and comfortable, which for me is unheard of. At night, I found the sunset light relaxing when I was in the right state of mind, but I would have preferred a softer orange instead of the white light. The aromatherapy was also distracting, but I am willing to keep experimenting with scents to see if I can find one that works for me. Altogether, the Lumie 500 is a cool product. It would be nice if they had included a few oils to get you started - however, it is worth the money just to wake up feeling refreshed. RRP

SJCAM M20 Action Cam The M20 is not only SJCAM’s smallest camera but also their first action camera that can be controlled remotely. The camera can easily be attached to your wrist, selfie stick or a bikes handle bars. The M20 is lovely and compact, measuring 1.58×0.903×2.124in and weighing only 55g, but don’t let its small size fool you. This action camera has an adjustable FOV (field of vision) allowing you to shoot wide (166°) medium (150°) and narrow (70°). The camera also features Distortion Correction, which delves to flatten out the fish eye distortion you get from using a wide angle lens; with not much avail it must be said. The 2.5K action cam records up to 2160p, 2880x2160P 24FPS in either MOV or in MP4 via its Sony
IMX206 16 mega pixel sensor. It will also shoot photos in RAW as well as JPEG, giving you complete control over editing. The product comes with a fully waterproof case (that can be used up to depths of 30M) and a nicely designed selfie stick, plus loads of attachments for sticking it to your body, helmet, tripod, dashboard, clothing, bike or even a drone. The cam connects to your device (Android or iOS) through its own built in WiFi Preview and connects to the TV with the HDMI TV-output mode. The Gyro stabilization rounds out bumps and shakes and gives you a clearer picture; which works surprisingly well if you are out mountain biking for example. On a slight down note, the camera struggles in low light and

under water. The remote works really well but didn’t come with any instructions (nothing a quick online search couldn’t amend). We found with our particular sample that when in the waterproof case, the power button didn’t line up with the button on the camera, resulting in us having to take it out each time to turn it on. This proved very irritating, not sure if the problem was with the overall design or just this model. All in all, there is a lot of cool features all packed into this tiny camera; much more than I would expect for an action camera in this price range.
