Top 100 Companies
I “Business plans formed in the early days of the pandemic are now starting to actualise. The firms on this list have been, and will continue to be, an integral part of that.”
t is hard to imagine a more capricious task than selecting the Top 100 Companies in a sector like sustainability, for a year like 2022. The firms on this list represent a wave of change to the old and the charge of the new in what is the defining and unifying global business trend of an era. A Top 1,000 may be in order. We have whittled down a flood of submissions to this supplement, highlighting the ambitious innovators and traditional juggernauts driving change in their sectors. There are multinationals and startups, consultancies and clothing brands, AI services and household goods. After sustainability trends saw a huge upswing through the pandemic years of 2020-21, 2022 looks poised to see their solidification. Business plans formed in the early days of the pandemic are now starting to actualise. The firms on this list have been, and will continue to be, an integral part of that.

Companies in
Sustainability Following the successful compilation of the Top 100 Women — as a contribution to International Women’s Day — and the Top 100 Leaders, by sister brands Technology Magazine, Supply Chain Digital Magazine and FinTech Magazine, we have crowned the Top 100 Companies in Sustainability. The readers of Sustainability Magazine were asked to nominate the most sustainable companies, which were then collated and debated by our team – resulting in
this special supplement. The Top 100 companies featured here have successfully outlined their targets for the future, are already contributing to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Plus, there are businesses that were formed on the premise that they can provide solutions to issues that affect climate change. From big energy and technology corporations to logistics, components, and consumer goods, the definitive list shows how organisations can tackle sustainability issues no matter their size, reach, or industry. We also eagerly anticipate the inaugural Sustainability LIVE, which is being held in London on 23-24 February 2022. The event will bring together leaders and innovators that are making meaningful change, to discuss all the important topics being addressed by businesses worldwide.

Schneider Electric SE
Year Founded: 1836 Industry: Energy/Digital Solutions
A multinational energy management and digital transformation corporation, known for its climate ambitions and ability to empower the next generation of digital energy transformation, Schneider Electric has advocated sustainability for over 20 years. With such a commitment to the renewable energy shift, it’s no wonder the company was recognised as the World’s Most Sustainable Company by the Corporate Knights Global 100 Index, and has now taken the top spot in our list at Sustainability Magazine. Schneider has hit several milestones over the past year. It has incorporated a broad spectrum of energy-related goals into its sustainability strategy. This includes climate action in their pledge to achieve a carbonneutral footprint ahead of the 2050 net-zero target, as well as replacing single-use plastics
from its primary and secondary packaging with recycled cardboard, and working with suppliers to maintain positive work environments. This also means bridging the gap between men and women in the hiring process, encouraging more female representation at the leadership level, and developing the next generation of leaders with digital energy management training. 90% of its employees receive regular upskilling and the company also helps with the development of local communities. Engaging supply chains in its Zero Carbon Project, Schneider is committed to providing digital tools and resources to its 1,000 suppliers, giving back to an industry that has not only maintained business momentum, but requires a lot of support to reduce its environmental impacts — which equates to around 70% of its own carbon emissions.
