WELCOME TO SPAIN FOR aef 2020
Investment & Impact As the international energy community adapts to rapidly evolving technologies and increasing demand for sustainable solutions, the need for knowledge-sharing and innovation has never been greater. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) promotes “access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.” Some of the most innovative sustainable energy solutions are being developed right now in Africa, but what role could or should Africa play in achieving SDG7? Under the overarching theme “Investment & Impact,” the Africa Energy Forum’s 2020 programme will put sustainable development and the impact of power projects under the spotlight. As a participant at the 2019 Forum in Lisbon commented; “The potential to generate highly attractive financial returns while effecting significant social impact is perhaps more prevalent in Africa than anywhere else in the world.”
aef 2020 Chairwoman For the first time ever, aef will have a Chairwoman to oversee the opening sessions. We’re delighted to have aef has appointed Chairwoman Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO & Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All & Co-Chair of UN-Energy, SEforALL. Damilola will steer the discussions on the opening day of the Forum, giving a keynote speech in the session; Investment & Impact to End Energy Poverty – Defining Investment & Impact. With her background in sustainable energy, there’s no one more suited to represent our ‘Investment & Impact’ theme this year.
WHY SPAIN? With ambitious renewable energy targets and a long history of successful solar power development, Spain is a fascinating case study and a great choice for our next aef destination. With a total of 27 Embassies in Africa, Spain has a number of prominent projects taking place in South Africa and Morocco and - more recently - Kenya and Egypt. Spanish companies hold a strong presence in all levels of the energy value chain, from engineering, design, manufacturing and project development. We welcome ICEX as our Official Association Partner this year, who recently opened an office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. aef will take place at the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc, Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, s/n, 08004 Barcelona, Spain. Privileged accommodation rates have been arranged with nearby hotels for registered delegates. To find out more, drop us an email at events@energynet.co.uk
