CAMBRIDGE GOLF COURSE & BANQUET ROOM

Chelsea Harwood of Cambridge Golf Course and Banquet Room was born and raised in Evansville on the Westside. She went to Franklin College where she met her husband of 11 years. They have 4 kids, 3 girls and a boy. They actually had their reception at Cambridge. After living in South Bend, IN, for a bit, they returned to Evansville to live on the Northside.

Prior to working at Cambridge, Chelsea worked as a case manager and then foster care specialist at DCS. She’s also worked recruiting adoptive parents for DCS.

Working for Cambridge runs in the family, though. Her mom was the event coordinator at Cambridge for nearly 10 years. Chelsea had done bridal shows with her and worked some events with her mom. So when her mom retired, they asked if Chelsea would be interested in taking over the role. So she has been the position for three years now! Chelsea loves working with brides and grooms and getting to know their families and being a part of their special day! Chelsea shares, “I love walking into a reception and seeing all of their visions come to life with the decorations. No two weddings are alike. I try my best to make this part of the planning as stress free as possible so that they can enjoy planning and their day.” She goes on to add, “I currently reside in Cambridge, and it is a great community to live in and work at. I am super family for creating such a wonderful place and giving me an opportunity to work as the event coordinator. We have a wonderful staff who is more like family and helps make sure everything goes smooth.”

SAMANTHA & JACOB In Samantha’s words “Jacob and I met in middle school and became friends as the years went on. I had been crushing on him since the 7th grade! He constantly pestered me during class, which is where it all began. The pestering soon turned to flirting, and I fell head over heels for him! His smile and laugh consumed me! This lasted most of the school year, and finally he asked me to be his girlfriend on May 7, 2010. You often hear of high school sweethearts, but in our case we are middle school sweethearts. Jacob finally proposed after 7 years of me pestering him about marrying me. He somehow managed to sneak to the jewelry store with my best friend just to look around, but ended up buying my ring. About a week or two after, he finally popped the question. Shortly after we chose the wedding date and decided on the venue, the Azalea Path, which is absolutely stunning! My papaw was supposed to marry us but he passed in 2018, so Jacob’s brother-in-law married us instead, which was very special to us. We were missing many loved ones whom were there in spirit so we had a memorial table set up with photos to honor them. His sister also surprised us with small photo charms of our papaws whom we had lost. We carried them with us all night.”

The Old Post O ice

Construction on the Old Post Office started in 1873, and the Old Post Office and Customs House was completed in 1879. The Old Post Office was designed by A.B. Mullett and Company in the Richardsonian Romanesqe style; featuring round arches, stone masonry and towers. This building, like many other historical downtown buildings was built by Charles Pearce and Company. In 1971, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, the Old Post Office is being restored to it’s glory. Many of the improvements you see are actually refurbished original elements.

The crown molding on the NW 2nd Street side was finished by the same group that helped restore the West Baden hotel. Marble in the bathrooms was repurposed after being moved from another area of the building. The “picture windows” are created from photographs that were found at Willard Library. Some of the columns in the room were found buried in the walls that had been added over the years. Daniela Cardili
