We had so much fun at the June Meeting of 100 Women Who Care! Little Engine Winery hosted the event, and it is a spectacular venue with a beautiful view from the covered space, which kept us dry despite the brief rain shower.
This month the event supported Animal Welfare organizations. Alert, SPCA, and Critter Aid each received funding donations from the event!
We are so proud to be the title sponsor for 100 Women Who Care
South Okanagan & Similkameen!
100 Women Who Care is a group of women who share a common desire to give back and inspire local philanthropy in their community. The group is open to all women — the more women who get involved, the more significant the impact will be! Since 2014 they have donated over $110,000 to local charities in the South Okanagan Similkameen!

With thousands of people pouring into the Central Okanagan each year it’s easy to forget that Penticton is becoming an increasingly desirable place to live.
“There’s been a lot of conversation over the last couple of years regarding Penticton being the next Okanagan hot spot,” Lyndi Cruickshank, founder of Engel and Völkers South Okanagan Real Estate, told iNFOnews.ca. “Just hearing how some of the developers and others are rationalizing their visioning, it certainly makes sense.”
There are massive amounts of new housing developments already approved or proposed for the city.
That includes the North Gateway area where 2,200 new homes are expected, with almost one-third of them already in the pipeline.
The 686-unit Wiltse Flats subdivision on the city’s east site promises a mix of single-family, multi-family and duplex units.
And a new proposal for up to 1,500 new homes across from Penticton Regional Hospital is going out for public feedback this summer.
Dreams don’t come true, dreams are made true.
And so began the journey. A vision to produce a collection of wines that would appeal to astute wine enthusiasts and the most seasoned professionals. Varietals based on terroir with the ability to influence with barrels. Three properties planted in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot mark estate production while Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc make up the balance of the portfolio. A winery dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. We believe our vision of inspiration and dreams result in wines that deliver, inspired by the same dreams.
Why Little Engine... Because each and everyone of us has a Little Engine Story. We can all relate to a story of overcoming obstacles and achieving greatness. The children’s fable of the Little Engine personifies will and determination, a winery dedicated to these same pursuits seemed befitting of the same title, and so became Little Engine Wines.
Our philosophy begins in the vineyard. Precise pruning, canopy management, and cluster thinning. We utilize very low crop tonnage producing fruit with intense concentration. Hand selected fruit combined with minimally-invasive wine making techniques allow for our wine’s pure expression. A combination of natural yeasts, gentle maceration, French oak barrels and attention to every detail, results in wines of depth, character, elegance and finish.

“Join us at River Stone Estate Winery for a 2-hour silk scarf workshop. We bring the beautiful, ancient art of water marbling to the 21st century by inviting you to be the artist. Come and make your own water marbled silk scarf. Each workshop begins with a demonstration. Then each artist chooses their colours and floats the paint one drop at a time on the surface of the water, then uses marbling combs, rakes, or stylus to create the design of their liking. If you can sprinkle cheese on a pizza, or write your name with a pencil you can make magic with us!
Tickets include all supplies to make your silk scarf and a glass of one of River Stones’ award winning Bordeaux reds.
‘River Stone Estate Winery is a small family owned winery located in Oliver, BC. Producing beautifully crafted award winning aromatic whites and well respected big bold reds. The tasting room is open April to October and has a stunning patio overlooking the vineyard where you can enjoy a picnic and a glass of wine’”.
Choose one of the two workshop time blocks on Saturday, July 29th:
• 11am-130pm
• 2pm-430pm
“The first Ultraman Canada took place in Penticton, BC in 1993 with 8 participants and Tom Price as the winner. In years since only 211 participants (158 male / 53 female) have successfully completed the Canadian version of the three-day challenge.
Under Race Director (and 3 time Ultraman finisher) Brad Sawa Ultraman Canada returned to Penticton in July of 2019 after a four-year hiatus. Impressed with the success of the race and the positive feedback from the competitors, Jane Bockus and the Ultraman Board of Directors agreed to grant a new 5-year Ultraman Canada license to the pair ensuring the longevity of this event.
We are now part of four official and licensed events worldwide. Ultraman Canada, Ultraman Florida and, more recently, Ultraman Arizona. Which means, to be considered for the Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii you must be an official finisher of these listed events.
Whether you are racing, supporting or spectating, we look forward to hosting you in this spectacular part of the world, steeped in triathlon history. We welcome you to Ultraman Canada.”
