We are happy to welcome you in Pécs, on our University in our multicultural city and would like to share with you some actual information to make your stay here as pleasant as possible! What to do after you arrive to Hungary? Step 1. Gather the following documents

You have to certify an address : - If you live in a dormitory: - If you live in a rented flat: • dormitory contract and official accommodation paper • authorized property page of the flat (not older than 30 days) • the valid rental contract or agreement about the flat • official accommodation paper that is filled out, signed by the owner/s and you and contains the precise, official address

• It takes approx. 1 or 2 weeks until your residence permit card arrives. As soon as it is here OI will notify you. • If you live in a flat, make sure you have your name on the mailbox in order to receive official letters sent by any authority.

Step 4. Again visit the OI in office hours or book an appointment (see above) • Submit your passport and refer to the phone call or e-mail where OI notified you about your new residence permit card. • Sign the documents and receive your residence permit. Important general information With the type “D” visa you received at the Hungarian Consulate you can only travel in to the country once and its only valid for 30 days (the 30 days starts when you enter the Hungarian border) so please make sure you visit the OI as soon as possible preferably in the first two weeks of your arrival. If you are under 18 years old, you are a minor in Hungary you will need a legal representative who signes the official documents for you.

Valid passport / national ID 2.) One passport-size photo 3.) Datasheet from their website (”Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies” - filled out) 4.) Letter of Award 5.) Student status certificate (from Registrar’s Office) and/or Letter of Admission (from your study programme) 6.) Dormitory contract OR (if you live in a rented flat) lease agreement + a copy of ownership certificate from landlord + accommodation report form Then: • Wait for the call or e-mail from OI. It takes approx. 1-2 weeks until your residence permit card arrives. • If you live in a flat, make sure you have

Housing in Pecs

Dormitories The University of Pécs offers for international students Szántó doprmitory. The Faculties of the University as well as the city centre are easily accessible. The dormitorie has recently been renovated and meets the students’ requirements on the highest level. The rooms are nicely furnished and contain bathrooms. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered on a reasonable price level. You will need to fill out the check-in form at the dormitory, sign the ”student hostel accommodation service contract” and comply with all house rules. Before moving out from the dormitory you will need to tell the dormitory committee about your decision and you will need to leave before the 3rd day of the month in order to receive your accommodation contribution for that month. Renting a flat For incoming students who require superior quality accommodation, rented flats are an alternative. Renting a flat can provide students with the peace, comfort and privacy they require. There are numerous private companies in town, two of them are Student Housing (www.studenthousing.hu), and iHome (www.ihingatlan.hu) which offer free apartment-finding service for students. They have the largest database of apartments for rent in Pécs from 30.000 HUF/month. They offer: houses, apartments and flats for rent, roommate search. They make appointments with the landlords and they take you out by car to view apartments, provide you a rental contract, etc.

After you have received your residence permit please, visitMs. Bán Teréz in the Central Registrar’s Office (Központi Tanulmányi Iroda - KTI), and apply for your Hungarian medical insurance card (’TAJ card’).

Address: H‐7633 Pécs, 1/b Szántó Kovács János Street, Opening Hours: Mon-Thu: 9:00-12:00, 12:30-15:00, Friday: 9:00-12:00 You will need to bring the following documents with you: • Passport • Valid residence permit • Accommodation confirmation ( or address card) • Stipendium verification (Letter of Award) • Student status certificate (from your faculty’s registrar’s office, issued not more than 30 days prior to your application) It takes approximately 1-2 weeks to issue your ’TAJ’ card, then it will be posted to the adress you have provided previously.

This insurance covers the expenses of medical treatments and interventions at the designated institution and also covers medicines and therapeutical aids, and in case of medical necessity - the costs of transport of the patient to the designated institution. • The cover limit: up to HUF 2,000,000, for any insurance period. • Only 50 % of the costs of medicines and therapeutical aids will be reimbursed. • Insurance premium is for the academic year 2015/2016 (for 12 months) between 01/09/2015 – 31/08/2016: HUF 70,000 for students of the University of Pécs • For the second semester of the academic year 2015/2016 (for 7 months) between 01/02/2015 – 31/08/2015: HUF 40,000 for students of the University of Pécs More information for Generali-Providencia STUDIUM Accident and Health Insurance: ask Ms. Reka Somfai in the International Office


MEDICAL ASSISTANCE Please, always keep your Hungarian health insurance card (’TAJ kártya’) or your Generali-Providencia card with you! • If you get sick (e.g. fever, flu, diarrhea, sore throat etc.) you will need to go to the GP within her opening hours. Always have your Hungarian health insurance card (’TAJ’ card) with you to access free treatment (otherwise one meeting with the doctor costs HUF 2500). If necessary the GP may redirect you to a specialist for special treatment. Prescribed medicines can be bought at any pharmacies/ drug stores with the prescription from the doctor. How to start STUDENT CARD APPLICATION PROCESS 1.First, go to the ‘government office’ to fill out the application document. Address: Szántó Kovács János u. 1. Opening hours: Mon: 7:00-17:00, Tue: 8:00-18:00, Wed: 8:00-19:00, Thu: 8:00-18:00, Fri:8:00-16:00), TAKE PASSPORT AND STUDENT STATUS CERTIFICATE WITH YOU! 2.Provide your personal data exactly as it is written in your passport! You will receive a paper there, please make sure that your data on the paper matches exactly with your data in your electronic unified education system (Neptun)! Fill in ‘NEK’ number on this document (upper-right corner) to MODULO (’application form for student card’ menu). HUF 1400 due fee will automatically appear in your ETR. 3.Pay HUF 1400 at your faculty cashier (at your campus), and keep the payment receipt! 4.After 3 days you can go to Central Registrar’s Office (KTI), Address: Szántó K. J. utca 1. - to pick up your temporary student card. 5.After 4 weeks - pick up permanent student card at the government office (it has to be validated for every semester by a sticker!!!)

OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT • In order to receive your monthly Stipendium Hungaricum allowances you will need to open a Hungarian bank account at any bank available in Pécs. • Ask your buddy (mentor) to go with you and help you with translation • Take all personal documents with you including passport, student status certificate and residence permit, if you have already received it! • After you have opened your new bank account number go to your Faculty’s registrar’s office and provide them your Hungarian bank account number so they can upload it to your file. As long as your account number is not in the system, you will not receive any of your monthly allowances, therefore please do this as soon as possible but NOT LATER THAN THE 30TH OF OCTOBER!

BUS TICKETS, BUS FARES Before you board a bus, you should buy your tickets from a newsagent, in the ticket offices of the Pécs Public Transport Company or in the Tourinform office – do not forget to validate your ticket after boarding. Tickets can also be bought from the bus driver, but this is more expensive. An economical solution is the day card, the weekly pass or monthly student pass (50% discount with your UP student card). These can be bought at the following ticket offices: Millenium Mall Pécs, Rákóczi út 60.
