What is the mission of Montessori Children’s House of York Inc.? We are a not-for-profit private school serving children
The University of Mount Union, Alliance, Ohio, recently announced that Aaron Czech of York has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or greater, with no letter grade below a B.
and adolescents. We follow Maria Montessori’s proven model of education as the key to freeing each human’s full potential and moving toward a more peaceful society.
Research shows a Montessori education is one of the best ways to erase achievement gaps among low-income families; we want to do that for York.
Why is the school excited to participate in Give Local York this year? We are so excited to announce the creation of our first scholarship program, for families who could not otherwise afford Montessori education. Especially exciting for us is that 100% of donations from our Give Local York campaign will be changing the lives of real students in our community.
York Suburban Students Honored
Farley Named To Dean’s List Kalee Farley of York was named to the fall 2019 dean’s list at Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Ill. To qualify for inclusion on the dean’s list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.
York Suburban High School students (from second from left) Jenny Tao, Rachel Ludwick and Bevan Fogdall were honored as York East Rotary’s Students of the Month. Hunter Mink (far left), York East Rotary president, and Kyle King, Rotary committee member, congratulated them at the club’s Jan. 21 weekly breakfast meeting at Heritage Hills, where the students shared about their accomplishments and plans for the future. Student scholarships are awarded on the basis of good citizenship, academic performance and community service.
Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a statewide public cyber charter school for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, recently announced that its Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) team of six students won this year’s statewide competition, marking the 10th consecutive year of CCA capturing the state title. The RWDC was created to help build the United States’ STEM workforce by providing high school students from across the country the opportunity to work on reallife engineering challenges in a collaborative, team environment. The RWDC tasks students with a professional engineering challenge to design and implement unmanned aerial systems more commonly known as drones - that will help solve modern-day issues faced by global industries. The 2020 challenge required students to design a drone that could carry and deliver packages weighing up to 5 kilograms, make continuous deliveries through a neighborhood, and complete its route with at least 20 minutes of battery life remaining. When designing its drone, the team had to consider a variety of challenges, including power management, weight, and design efficiency. All designs were required to include upward-facing rotors, effectively reducing the battery life of the drone. To overcome this issue, the CCA team designed a drone that takes off with rotors pointing upward, then switches to a hybrid airfoil for long-distance flight to conserve battery power. CCA this year competed against student teams from schools across Pennsylvania. The students who were part of the CCA team include Alisher Aminov, grade 12, Lebanon; Bella Christianson, grade 10, Waynesboro; Kenya Mitchell, grade 12, Steelton; Luke Zimmerman, grade 10, Palmyra; Numayr McPhaul, grade 10, York; and Timothy Cribbs, grade 12, Camp Hill. The team is currently preparing to represent Pennsylvania at the national competition on Saturday, April 25, in Washington, D.C. At the RWDC national competition in April, teams representing the U.S. and China will present their inventions to a panel of judges with careers in aerospace and defense. Since first participating in the national competition in 2008, the CCA team has twice finished in second place.
