Veterans Visit Washington, D.C.

More than 80 veterans visited memorials and other points of interest in Washington, D.C., during the 14th Honor Bus trip in November 2018. More than 80 veterans of the World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Gulf War, and War on Terror eras gathered at Northeastern High School for the 14th Honor Bus trip on Nov. 17, 2018. York County residents are invited to participate in the 45th annual York County Conservation District (YCCD) tree seedling sale on Thursday, April 11, at Rocky Ridge County Park, located off Mount Zion Road in York. Each year, more than 20,000 seedlings are sold and planted in York County and surrounding areas. Featured this year will be numerous seedlings native to the area, as well as a variety of fruit-bearing shrubs and trees, such as apple and cherry trees. The Austin L. Grove American Legion Post 403 Americanism Committee is accepting applications for the 49th Pennsylvania State Police Youth Week (SPYW) program through Friday, May 3, or until all 100 SPYW seats are filled across Pennsylvania. SPYW is co-sponsored by the American Legion, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania National Guard. SPYW will again be held on the campus of York College of Pennsylvania from Sunday, June 9, through Saturday, June 15. The six-day camp is for male and female students ages 15 to 18 prior to attending who are interested in entering a career in law enforcement or a branch of the armed forces. Cadets march in platoon formation and participate in drill competitions. The curriculum includes physical training, as well as instruction and familiarization in

Bluegrass Concert Slated Seven Mountains Bluegrass Association (SMBA) will present its next concert on Saturday, March 9, in the social hall at Goodwill Fire Company, 2318 S. Queen St., York (Spry). The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers will perform at 7 p.m. Mullins is radio station owner and disc jockey and hosts a bluegrass festival in Ohio. The group has performed for SMBA several times in the past. The kitchen will be open and operated by the Goodwill volunteer firefighters and ladies auxiliary members. There is a separate

charge for the food in addition to the tickets for the show. The family show will be a smoke-free and alcohol-free event. Separate ticket costs have been set for SMBA members and for nonmembers. He will play an assortment of guitars and percussion instruments. McVicker began his career writing music and playing concerts with Rich Mullins, who was later killed in a car accident that also injured McVicker. After McVicker’s recovery, he began his own musical journey influenced by Mullins. He has recorded 10 albums and performed more than 2,000 concerts in 49 states and 13 countries. Orchestra To Perform School Plans Event For Classical Concert Prospective Families The York Symphony Orchestra will present “Beethoven and Bruckner” on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. The performance is part of the Classical Series. The concert will open with “Overture to Leonore No. 3,” Beethoven’s only completed opera. It tells the story of Leonore, who disguises herself as a prison guard to rescue her husband from death in a political prison.
