The opera “Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night” will be performed at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main St., Red Lion, on Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20, at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door only. The opera is produced and directed by college student Caroline Wolfe, who is also a member of the cast. The opera is a monodrama based on the character Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens’ novel “Great Expectations.” The opera lasts only 30 minutes and is sung entirely in English. On June 4, York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) recognized the completion of two projects: site improvements at York’s Resource Recovery Center and the completion of the Ash Recycling & Processing Facility. Featured this month will be a “Grease Medley” couples formation dance demonstration performed by members of PA DanceSport of Hummelstown. A night club two-step lesson will be taught by Keith Stremmel from 3 to 4 p.m. for beginning and intermediate dancers. Following, from 4 to 7 p.m., will be open dancing to music provided by Studio 5 DJs. Refreshments will be available beginning at 4 p.m., and donations of appetizers, desserts or snacks are welcome. Hays Receives Scholarship The 2019 Susquehanna Lions Scholarship was awarded to Benjamin Hays at the Northeastern Senior High School Awards Program on May 28. Hays is the class valedictorian, ranking first in a class of 243 students. The son of Sherry and Bryan Hays, he plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh this fall majoring in molecular biology. He plans to complete an undergraduate pre-med program and become a medical practitioner.

Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), a public cyber charter school with more than 9,500 students enrolled in Pennsylvania, held a graduation ceremony on June 11 in Harrisburg to recognize the hard work and academic achievement of the class of 2019. More than 325 students from more 20 counties in central Pennsylvania make up part of CCA’s Class of 2019. Statewide, the academy’s Class of 2019 has more than 1,000 graduates. As a statewide public cyber charter school, CCA offers a comprehensive, personalized and flexible educational program to its students and their families. CCA emphasizes the importance of providing students with the tools and support to prepare them for postsecondary success, whether they attend college, enlist in the military or enter the workforce. Theresa Amore of Harrisburg was selected as a graduation speaker. In her speech, Amore encouraged her classmates to continue to overcome their challenges. At annual meeting held by York County Community Foundation (YCCF) on May 16, Ursula Wright (left), keynote speaker, met with Jane M. York County Community Foundation (YCCF) has added three new community members to the board of directors to continue the organization’s commitment to connecting with a broader audience to strategically think about its growth and impact on the future of York County. At a board meeting prior to the organization’s 2019 annual meeting on May 16, Kyle Jones, Harold N. Myers Jr., and Sarah King Reinecker were voted onto the board. Jones is the co-head of the Portfolio Strategies Group (PSG) at PFM. Prior to joining PFM, Kyle spent 10 years at JPMorgan Chase in a variety of capacities, most recently as an investment specialist for their Institutional Sales business. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and educational seminars. Jones is active with his respective alumni associations; holds leadership positions with several community-related organizations, including the York County Black Golfers Association and the Beta Pi Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity; and serves on the board of the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. Myers joined Harley-Davidson Motor Company in 2006 and currently serves as senior HR generalist. Previously he served in a variety of roles at Osram Sylvania. Currently, Myers is president of the York County Black Golfers Association, a nonprofit group with the mission to serve the youths of the greater central Pennsylvania area through

mentorship.
