Festival To Focus On America’s Forgotten Fruit For anyone who has tasted and enjoyed the delicious flavor of the pawpaw, the fruit’s short - but sweet - season is likely something they look forward to making the most of each autumn. This year, the public is invited to celebrate the first harvest from the pawpaw orchard at the Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York. Richard Bono, who manages the 48 pawpaw trees that were planted six years ago, reported that more than 100 pawpaw fruits are on the trees this year. According to Richard, the orchard has been well mulched and mowed all year. Between that and the fact that the trees are now bearing the highly anticipated fruit, Richard said, “It has never looked better.” Richard and his wife, Judy Bono, help to organize the annual Pawpaw Festival at the Horn Farm Center. They are expecting record crowds this year, as pawpaw lovers have traveled great distances in recent years to attend the event. The 2018 Pawpaw Festival is slated to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 23, on the Horn Farm Center grounds. There is a nominal tasting fee at the door, with children under age 2 being admitted free of charge. Ample parking is available. Tours of the orchard will be offered, and

Richard will speak at noon on both days about his experience with growing pawpaws. At 1 p.m. each day, Lydia Martin of the Lancaster County Conservancy will speak on “Pollinators and Their Host Plants.” In addition to the inaugural crop at Horn Farm Center, the Bonos have ordered 500 pounds of cultivated pawpaws from the Deep Run Pawpaw Orchard in Westminster, Md. Jim Davis, who grows cultivated varieties at Deep Run, is quoted in Andrew Moore’s book “Pawpaw: In Search of America’s Forgotten Fruit,” stating, “If you collect pawpaws in the wild, it’s a roll of the dice. You don’t know what you will get.’’ However, according to the Bonos, Davis’ cultivated pawpaws are considered the best that exist. Pawpaw Festival attendees will have the opportunity to sample five cultivated varieties that have lemony, buttery, sweet tastes, as well as wild pawpaws. Pawpaw muffins, popsicles, salsa, and ice cream samples will be part of the tasting. Girl Scout Troop 20566 will also be selling pawpaw smoothies and beverages as a fundraiser. The Bonos encourage folks to come early for the best selection of fruits and trees, which will be available to purchase. Tree sizes from three-gallon for beginners to fivegallon container sizes for pawpaw enthusiasts will be procurable. Fresh pawpaw fruit and pawpaw recipe books will also be on

sale. According to the Bonos, pawpaws freeze well, and if the pulp is removed the fruit may keep its bright color for up to three years. The pulp can be used to make pawpaw ice cream and muffins. Fresh produce from the Horn Farm Center and a selection of native plants, trees, and honey will also be for sale from local vendors. Penn State Master Gardeners will be on hand to share information about local pollinators. Proceeds from the event will support the Horn Farm Center, an organization whose mission is to connect soil, food, and people in ways that improve the health and resilience of the community. CARDS OF THANKS PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. You who made me see everything and showed me the way to reach my ideal, You who gives me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me and You who are in all instances, of my life, with me, I, in this short dialogue, want to thank You for everything and confirm once more that I never want to be separated from you no matter how great material desires may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in Your perpetual glory. Thank You for Your love towards me and my loved ones. Amen. Persons may say this prayer 3 consecutive days without asking your wish, after the 3rd day your wish will be granted, no matter how difficult it may be. Promise to publish this dialogue as soon as your favor has been granted. Thank you. KMS READ YOUR AD THE FIRST WEEK IT APPEARS
