The Usher, played by senior theater major Charity Stump of York, and Death, played by junior theater major Kayla Manigault from Baltimore, watch over Everybody as they make their journey in this modern depiction of facing death. Some parts in the play are decided by lottery each night in front of the audience as the randomness of life and death is explored. “Everybody” is an adaptation of a famous medieval theater script, “Everyman.” As many plays did at that time, its purpose was to try and make sense of the unknowable. Super Sportsman Tour To Return BAPS Motor Speedway owner Scott Gobrecht and general manager Kolten Gouse have worked hard to preserve the history of the Super Sportsman division. When Gobrecht purchased the speedway at the end of 2015, the Super Sportsman class was brought on as the headliner. Two years ago, the duo instituted a Hall of Fame to honor the past and current greats who have made an impact on the division. The management team wants to continue to tap into the past to move the division forward. To do so, Gobrecht and Gouse have announced that they are bringing back the Super Sportsman Tour, which will be highlighted by an eightrace schedule in 2020. According to Gouse, the decision was made as a way to grow the division, as the Super Sportsman Tour was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s and is known to be a competitive class. Marysville Motorcars has come on board as the title sponsor for the series. The winner of the series will receive
$1,000, with second place receiving $500. The top 10 in points will receive money at the end of the season. The eight-race series will be contested at four different tracks with different sizes and characteristics. Lincoln Speedway will host three events, with Big Diamond Speedway and Trail-Way Speedway holding single events. BAPS Motor Speedway will also have three designated races. The Marysville Motorcars Super Sportsman Tour schedule for 2020 is as follows: Saturday, April 11 - Lincoln Speedway; Saturday, April 25 - BAPS Motor Speedway; Friday, May 15 - Big Diamond Speedway; Saturday, June 6 - Lincoln Speedway; Saturday, June 27 BAPS Motor Speedway; Saturday, July 18 - Lincoln Speedway; Friday, Aug. 14 - Trail-Way Speedway; and Saturday, Sept. 5 - BAPS Motor Speedway. The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) has honored WellSpan Cancer Centers of York as one of the recipients of its 2019 Innovator Awards for its achievements in oncology care. WellSpan Cancer Centers was honored for developing and implementing a radiation oncology app to improve the patient experience. Dissatisfied with the limited support in patient education materials, the WellSpan Oncology
Service Line developed a mobile app to offer its radiation oncology patients on-demand access to treatment- and disease-specific education. The app incorporates patient appointment and treatment schedules, a symptom tracker, secure messaging with care team members, access to support services and more. And since it is connected to WellSpan’s electronic health record (EHR), clinicians can use the app data to monitor patient symptoms and side effects.
WellSpan and the other recipients were honored at the ACCC 36th National Oncology Conference, held Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 in Orlando, Fla. This year’s honorees shared innovative strategies and lessons learned from their own experience to enable others to model and scale similar initiatives. Now in its ninth year, the Innovator Awards recognize ACCC member programs for their ingenuity and pioneering achievements in oncology. Innovations advance the goals of improving access, quality
and value in cancer care delivery. An education and advocacy organization for the cancer care community that was founded in 1974, ACCC is a network of 25,000 multidisciplinary practitioners from 2,100 hospitals and practices nationwide. For more information, readers may visit www.accc-cancer.org or call 301984-9496. County Enters Into Contract The York County commissioners voted 2-1 on Sept. 18 to enter into a six-month consulting services contract with IXP Corporation to assist the county and 911 staff to modify the processes, training, and organization of the county’s 911 center. York County will pay IXP a fixed cost of $750,000, which includes all expenses, for a six-month period. These costs will cover more than 2,500 hours of work over the period, with an option to further the consulting relationship based on performance metrics and goals as outlined in IXP’s proposal and the evaluation that concluded in June. The county will form a committee to meet weekly with IXP. This committee will consist of the executive director of IT, the deputy county administrator, and a commissioner.
The committee will have the oversight, through the authority of the commissioners, to oversee daily operations of the 911 center and approve necessary modifications. The commissioners will approve broader measures and matters involving personnel. The county’s full leadership team, which includes the committee as well as facilities management, public relations, controller, and solicitor, will meet monthly with IXP to evaluate performance and to review goals that have been achieved. With the upcoming changes in training and QA/AI administration requirements being implemented by PEMA effective Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, the county plans to undertake the necessary modifications now to processes, so that the county is better equipped to manage the
forthcoming changes. IXP, based out of Princeton, N.J., was initially hired by the county in January to conduct an audit of the county’s 911 center that was completed in June. A report detailing the county’s 911 deficiencies provided the county with an overview of changes required to improve the center’s functionality. The 18-page report provided a blueprint for the county. A comprehensive review, with IXP investing significant hours per week at the county’s 911 center, will offer the county expert industry assistance to improve its training, management structure, and system processes. A copy of the county’s agreement with IXP is linked on the county’s website at www.york countypa.gov.

The public is welcome to celebrate Thanksgiving in a worship service led by area clergy, lay leaders and musicians. The service will include traditional hymns, Scripture readings and prayer offered in thanks to God on behalf of and by the community. The host pastor, the Rev. The group welcomes area clergy to join its monthly meetings. It is currently led by the Rev. The Eastern York High School and Gettysburg Area High School field hockey teams recently held a fundraising campaign in honor of cancer patients and in memory of those who have lost their battle to cancer, including Dr. Michele “Max” Buckius. Buckius was a mother, wife, friend, surgeon and member of the Eastern York field hockey family. She died from colon cancer on Aug. 5. Those who knew Buckius say she showed compassion to all her patients and patience to her family, and she was always kind. Buckius was a Girl Scout and later became a Scout leader. An outdoors enthusiast, she spent many summers teaching young girls how to enjoy and take care of

nature. Buckius loved hiking, kayaking and traveling to new places, as well as sports, including hockey, soccer, football and fencing. As part of their fundraising campaign, the Eastern York and Gettysburg field hockey teams held a bake sale, sold T-shirts and collected donations. Proceeds of these efforts will be donated to the Heather Baker Foundation in Buckius’ name. The Heather Baker Foundation is a local organization that provides financial support to families affected by cancer. Heather Baker lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010. Districts Post Public Survey Several York County school districts are in the process of evaluating their district-wide, non-emergency communication, and they want to hear from residents. A survey has been created to capture the opinions and suggestions of York County residents. The survey can be completed electronically by visiting http://bit.ly/school-comm -survey. Regardless of the district in which readers reside, they are encouraged to consider taking the five-minute survey. The answers will help local school
districts assess their current communications practices and potentially implement changes to better serve district residents. Individuals without internet access may complete the survey using one of two computers in the Ronald Provard Education Center, 1800 Hollywood Drive, York. The computers are available on most weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In addition, respondents may call 717-8851210, ext. 1000, to provide their answers over the phone. Survey responses will be accepted through March 2020.
