Fire Companies Announce Merger A merger between the fire departments in Red Lion, Windsor and Felton boroughs has been in discussions for 18 months. Since May, the memberships of all three departments have met regularly to review bylaws, operating policies, financial implications of the merger and the new vision that was created by the merger board members with constant input from their department members. The firefighters have arranged combined training sessions each
week to learn about each other. On Nov. 6, the membership of Leo Fire Company No. 1 in Red Lion voted overwhelmingly to join two other departments in the merger effort, and on the same night, the membership of Union Volunteer Fire Company in Felton voted unanimously to join the same merger effort. On Nov. 11, the membership of Laurel Fire Company No. 1 in Windsor Borough voted to not pursue the merger with the Union and Leo fire companies. On Nov. 13,
the merger board members from the two departments met to finalize the merger. The result is that Alliance Fire and Rescue Services Inc., York County Station No. 77 (AFRS 77) will be incorporated by Sunday, Dec. 1. The new company will cover approximately 19.5 square miles, including six municipalities. Services will continue to be provided to Chanceford Township, Felton borough, North Hopewell Township, Red Lion borough, Windsor Township and York Township.

Lutheran Church, 25 W. Springettsbury Ave., York, will host the service on Dec. 11; and Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, will host the service on Dec. 18. Each week’s service will have
a distinctive character based on the host congregation, preacher and musical leadership. The pastors of the three churches have previously collaborated. This new venture aims to foster deeper relationships between three congregations.

Upward Sports Season Planned The community is invited to register for a new Upward Basketball and Cheerleading season, to take place in Bethlehem United Methodist Church’s new gymnasium, located at 109 E. Main St., Dallastown. Parking is available to the rear of the church off East Maple Street, with the gym entrance at the front on East Main Street. The program of Upward Sports focuses on developing skills rather than pressuring children to win scheduled games or compete in cheer competitions. Coaches not only teach practical and challenging skills, but also offer practice and game-day halftime experiences that emphasize good sportsmanship and character development. In the program, balanced teams are paired and feature a game-time substitution rotation. This ensures every child gets to play, to start, and to receive the same amount of playing time each game. Each player is valued based on improvement. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade may stop by the gym for an introduction and simple skills test. Participants may attend evaluation sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10; 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7; and/or 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 14. Various costs for the 10-week season have been set, covering uniforms, practices and games. The registration deadline is Sunday, Dec. 1. York Teacher Honored For Learning Projects SONIC Drive-In recently concluded its annual Limeades for Learning Fall Voting campaign in support of public school teachers, and one local teacher received funding to support his innovative and creative learning projects. In partnership with nonprofit DonorsChoose.org and with the help of SONIC fans, Brian Heisey, a teacher at Central York Middle School, received a combined $1,767 for necessary supplies to inspire learning in the classroom. Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 27, SONIC fans voted for projects they found the most inspiring at
www.LimeadesforLearning.com. Heisey was among the public school teachers whose projects earned funding for teaching resources as part of the annual fall voting campaign. Heisey was honored for three projects - “Personalization in the Classroom,” “STEM, Demos and Materials ... Oh My!” and “Virtual Reality STEM Activities.” To view the full list of public school teacher projects funded through Limeades for Learning, including those in York, readers may visit www.Limeadesfor Learning.com.
Since 2009, SONIC has donated more than $14 million, supported more than 17,570 classrooms and provided necessary learning materials and teaching resources requested by teachers to impact more than 3.7 million students in partnership with DonorsChoose.org. Teachers across America use the DonorsChoose.org site to create projects requesting resources their students need, and donors give to the projects that inspire them. Since its founding by a Bronx teacher in 2000, 4 million people and partners have given
$875 million to projects reaching 36 million students. The DonorsChoose.org team vets each project request and ships resources directly to the school, ensuring full transparency. Every donor receives photos of their project in action, thankyou messages from the classroom and a cost report showing how every dollar was spent. DonorsChoose.org was the first charity to make the top 10 on Fast Company’s list of the Most Innovative Companies in the World. Readers may visit the website to learn more.

existing Stauffer building, which occupies the northeast corner of the hospital’s site. Building vertically on a tight, landlocked site created several challenges. Benchmark was able to successfully coordinate steel delivery to the site to continue building while alternating with concrete delivery to pour the completed decking as the building rose. James Craft & Son Inc. was hired to perform the mechanical piping and HVAC for the vertical expansion and received many deliveries at its own warehouse to transport to the jobsite. Working in an occupied facility next to highly sensitive areas and minimizing the disruption to the hospital staff ’s ability to treat patients was the highest priority. Nearly 600,000 Christmas lights will illuminate Rocky Ridge County Park, 3699 Deininger Road, York, during the 36th annual Christmas Magic - A Festival of Lights from Friday, Nov. 29, through Tuesday, Dec. 31. Christmas Magic is a half-mile walking trail that meanders along a wooded hilltop through nearly 600,000 Christmas lights, holiday scenes, and five enclosed, heated pavilions. The trail is accessible. The spirit of the holiday is displayed by using animation, displays, visits from Santa Claus, food, a G-gauge train display, and an Ogauge train display. Christmas Magic will be open on Mondays through Thursdays
from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Fridays through Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. Christmas Magic will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25. Toys for Tots nights will take place on Friday, Nov. 29, and Saturday, Nov. 30. For the 10th year, the York County Parks will partner with Toys for Tots. Anyone bringing a new toy still in the box or container for donation to Toys for Tots will receive a voucher for a free food item and beverage at the park’s food stand located in White Oak Pavilion. Pet Night will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Pet owners are invited to bring their pets to the event and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. Members
of the Friends of Canine Meadows will be present to process the picture and place it in a frame for a set price. Regular admissions apply for humans. This is the only night that non-service animals are allowed to attend the event. The rain date is Thursday, Dec. 5. Tickets will be discounted for children ages 4 to 12 and seniors age 60 and older. Children under age 4 will be admitted for free. Prepurchased, timed tickets will be required every night. Timed admission limits the number of people attending Christmas Magic, with the goal of providing a better visiting experience and less waiting in traffic and lines. Tickets may be purchased at

“Nutcracker,” “Hip Nut” Performances Slated Greater York Dance has slated performances of “The Nutcracker” and “The Hip Nut.” Under the artistic direction of Lori Garling with Lauren Peate as ballet mistress, the Midstate Ballet of Greater York Dance will present its 21st production of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker.” A single performance will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. “The Nutcracker” was written by E.T.A. Hoffman in 1816. The holiday ballet tradition takes place in two acts and tells the story of a Christmas Eve in the 1800s at the home of young Clara and her family, the Stahlbaums, during their holiday party. A mysterious magician, Drosselmeyer, makes a surprise visit and presents Clara with a unique Nutcracker doll. Thus begins the magical journey of Clara and her Nutcracker prince from a battle between toy soldiers and mice to the Kingdom of Snow and the Land of Sweets. This year, Olivia Fowlkes will play the role of Clara. Olivia is a 10th-grade student in the Dover Area School District. Olivia studies ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip-hop, musical theater, acro, and conditioning for a total of more than 25 hours per week. The guest artists, Yenessis A. Marzan Hernandez and David Enrique Soler Rosa, will travel
from Puerto Rico to share the stage with Midstate Ballet local dancers and perform in the roles of Sugar Plum and Cavalier. Greater York Dance will celebrate its fifth anniversary of “The Hip Nut,” a contemporary retelling of “The Nutcracker,” on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. This multicultural world dance production is under the artistic direction of Garling. The story begins on the day of a pep rally at school, just before Christmas break. The main character, Clara, struggles to deal with several bullies, and when a confrontation leaves Clara reeling, she finds confidence and clarity in a colorful world of dance. This year, Annabelle Zengerle will play the role of Clara. She is a 12th-grade student in the West Shore School District. Since she was 3 years old, Annabelle has danced with Greater York Dance in ballet, pointe, hip-hop, tap, jazz, musical theater, and acro. Guest groups from across central Pennsylvania will collaborate and perform various forms of dance in Act 2, where Clara visits many countries, including Ireland, Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, France, and Egypt. Reserved seat tickets for “The Nutcracker” and “The Hip Nut” may be purchased by visiting www.appellcenter.org, calling 717-846-1111, or stopping by the box office at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts.
The Midstate Ballet of Greater York Dance will present “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York.
Greater York Dance will present “The Hip Nut,” a contemporary retelling of “The Nutcracker,” on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts in York.

CARDS OF THANKS PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. You who made me see everything and showed me the way to reach my ideal, You who gives me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me and You who are in all instances, of my life, with me, I, in this short dialogue, want to thank You for everything and confirm once more that I never want to be separated from you no matter how great material desires may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in Your perpetual glory. Thank You for Your love towards me and my loved ones. Amen. Persons may say this prayer 3 consecutive days without asking your wish, after the 3rd day your wish will be granted, no matter how difficult it may be. Promise to publish this dialogue as soon as your favor has been granted. Thank you. KMS READ YOUR AD THE FIRST WEEK IT APPEARS

Thomas Newnam
design, which was ultimately selected as the winning entry. That childhood dream coming true, at such a formidable age, caused Newnam to consider that, in spite of the inevitable ups and downs of life, the universe just might be a pretty accommodating place. Throughout his life, Newnam continued testing his belief that by following one’s heart, one can find the path to wholeness. One example of Newnam taking a leap of faith involved him leaving a secure job as a probation officer to answer an inner calling to become an artist. After several years of struggle, Newnam eventually became an accomplished watercolor artist. For the past 35 years, he has had a successful career painting for corporations as well as many private clients. He has had several one-man shows in galleries, created more than 20 book covers for the William Gladden Foundation, taught disadvantaged youths watercolor classes, and posted 23 how-to-paint videos on YouTube. Newnam began writing books to address a calling to publicly share his story and to relate various life lessons that have helped him on his journey. His first inspirational memoir, “Memo From Your Soul,” came out in 2011. His latest book, “Try Softer: How to Recover Your Natural State of Happiness and Clarity of Purpose,” which was published by Bluewater Press in September, incorporates the stories from “Memo” and goes deeper and broader in terms of both enlightening and entertaining wisdom and suggestions for positive growth. Both books are available on the websites of Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Additional information is available at Newnam’s website, www.sageandbrush.com.

Thomas Newnam, a 73-year-old Windsor Township resident, is an artist, martial artist, psychotherapist, author, and life coach who began writing self-help books when he became a grandfather. Feeling blessed to have many of his fondest dreams come true, Newnam remains dedicated to passing along life lessons he has learned. “I’ve always known that helping others is the best way for me to become my most authentic self,” Newnam said. “I’ve been helped so much, and by so many, all I want to do is keep paying it forward - keep the love flowing - with my counseling, paintings, and books.” Newnam attributes his dedication to health, and what he calls “inner wealth,” to an experience he had at the age of 10. In 1956, Newnam won a pony in a contest through the children’s television show “Popeye Theater.” Entrants were asked to make a cattlebrand design out of their initials, and Newnam devoted hours of concentration to creating his
