Christmas Tree Recycling Offered York County Solid Waste Authority will conduct a free Christmas Tree Recycling Program for all York County residents. Beginning Thursday, Dec. 26, residents may bring their tree to the parking lot located directly across the street from the York County Resource Recovery Center, 2651 Blackbridge Road, York. The Christmas Tree Recycling Program will run through Friday, Jan. 31. Residents should remove any ornaments, lights, tinsel, and protective bags prior to dropping

off their tree. H & H General Excavating will take the trees and recycle them into mulch for use in the warmer months. This program serves as a way for residents to easily dispose of their Christmas tree while reducing waste. Many municipalities now offer curbside Christmas tree collection for their residents, as well. Residents should call their municipal office to see if their municipality offers a curbside collection program. For more details, readers may visit www.ycswa.com.

ValleyView Alliance Church, 200 Alliance Ave., Hellam, will welcome pastor Moussa Joseph Moussa of the Arabic Christian Church on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 10:15 a.m. Moussa will speak briefly about a recent ministry trip to Syria and Lebanon, where there were an unusual number of professions of faith. He will also share a message from the Scriptures. Moussa leads the Arabic Christian Church, which shares a building with ValleyView Alliance Church. Moussa grew up in Syria. At age 14, he immigrated to the U.S., where he finished high school. He became a Christian at age 18. After studying engineering, he graduated with a degree in pastoral theology from Marietta Bible College in Marietta, Ohio. In 1988, he returned to begin

churches in the vicinities of Damascus and Homs, Syria. During his eight years in Syria, Moussa met his wife, Thana; distributed approximately 7,000 Arabic New Testaments; and baptized 50 believers. The Moussas influenced three young men toward vocational ministry, began Hearts for the Church Planting and a TV ministry, and became acquainted with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. In 1998, the Moussas began a church in Rockville, Md. In 2001, at the request of an Arabicspeaking Christian family, they launched a congregation in the York area in conjunction with the York Alliance Church. The ministry has grown to as many as 70 in attendance and has a sister congregation in Harrisburg. The church also has “Peace With

God,” a satellite TV program in Arabic that reaches the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Moussa is ordained with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the organization of which ValleyView is also a part. He and Thana have four grown children. The Arabic Christian Church meets on Saturday nights at ValleyView Alliance Church. For more information, readers may visit www.arabicchristian church.org.

YCLC Honors Volunteer The York County Literacy Council (YCLC) presented its Bea Blatner Volunteer of the Year Award to Annette Roderick in recognition of her years of service. Roderick joined York County Literacy Council in 2012. Since then, Roderick has volunteered more than 2,415 hours. She has tutored 21 students, four of whom received their high school equivalency diploma. Roderick served as a classroom aide for YCLC’s math classes and volunteered for its Buck A Book and bingo events. The Bea Blatner Volunteer of the

Year Award was established in 2002 in memory of longtime YCLC volunteer Bea Blatner, who supported YCLC’s mission by serving as a tutor, committee member, library volunteer, donor, and board member. For near 20 years, Blatner gave her time, enthusiasm, and expertise, continuing to tutor when she was in her nineties. For additional information about YCLC, readers may visit www.yorkliteracy.org or call Rita at 717-845-8719.

For his Eagle Scout project, Byron Seidel of Troop 177 brought together community members to work alongside with York City’s Parks and Recreation Bureau to create a science center at Westminster Park in York on Nov. 2. In addition to spreading 100 cubic yards of wood carpet, the project included the installation of two educational signs of original design that illustrate the principles of physics for two pieces of playground equipment. Westminster Park was designed around the theme of motion. Byron appreciates those who supported him to make the project come together, including businesses, family, and friends.

Be the Life of the Party. Don’t Text and Drive, and Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk. Distracted driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs dramatically reduce your ability to operate a vehicle safely, endangering your life and the lives of countless others. If you need to contact someone urgently, take a moment and pullover to a safe place to make the call or place the text. If you have been drinking, call a taxi, ride share service or friend for a safe ride home. Remember that one bad decision can change your life forever. Don’t risk it.

These local businesses urge you to be aware, be responsible and be safe. Protect your family. Prepare for their future. I can help with both. Stop by for your free State Farm Insurance and Financial Review . Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. CALL ME TODAY FOR MORE INFORMATION. ®
