What is the mission of OLLI at Penn State York? How does the organization work to achieve its goals? Mission: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The Pennsylvania State University is committed to enhancing the quality of life for mature adults (age 50 and over) who love to learn. For 10 years, OLLI at Penn State York has offered a wide variety of courses, tours, events, and activities for people who want to learn, for the love of learning. We are one of 122 OLLIs through the United States, and a core principle of all OLLIs is “no homework, no assignments, no stress!” Courses are led by volunteer instructors who have passion and expertise in history, literature, the performing arts, religion, business, technology, government, law, health, gardening, or the sciences. Additionally, OLLI reaches out to historical sites, museums, artists, faith communities, Penn State York faculty, and others to provide programs and opportunities to learn about what makes our region so special. Members have formed special interest groups and have engaged in intergenerational opportunities with area college students. We aim to keep our membership fee and course fees as low as possible so many York County residents can experience the joy of OLLI.

The junior board created YWCA York’s Young Women’s Leadership Award to celebrate its members, past and present, whose leadership advanced the mission of YWCA York. Swartz and Willis were recognized for raising $30,000 to help sur-

vivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking by bringing V-Day to York. V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers present annual benefit performances of a theatrical production to raise awareness and funds for antiviolence groups within their own communities. The purpose of the junior board is to foster the participation of young women, up to age

35, in the organization’s events and programs, to encourage others to become involved in their work, and to share ideas and perspectives with YWCA York’s board of directors and staff. New members are recruited every year through an open nomination process. Nominations are now open for the 2019-20 junior board.
