The event, an outgrowth of the Delta Pride revitalization initiative, is slated for 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 28, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, and will include barbecue-related cooking competitions, activities for people of all ages, live musical performances, and - new this year - a car show. Local Student Earns Honor Class Of A team of computer engineering students from Cedarville University, Cedarville, has been awarded Technology First’s Internet of Things (IoT) Award of Excellence-Student Project Award. This year’s computer engineering senior design team received the Award of Excellence in the student project category for their laundry monitoring app at the Dayton Club in Dayton, Ohio, on May 1. Computer engineering students on the four-person design
team include Ethan Gatchell of Red Lion. This is the second time in the last four years that Technology First has honored a Cedarville student team. The laundry monitoring system involves both hardware and software components. The app aims to make doing the laundry process more user-friendly by notifying students when a machine is available as well as when their laundry is finished in the washer or dryer.

The York County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (YCPASR) recently held its annual Spring Awards Luncheon at Wyndam Gardens York. Following the business portion of the luncheon, the group presented the Lauretta Woodson Award to staff members of the spotlighted school district, Spring Grove Area School District. The purpose of the Lauretta Woodson Recognition Program is to honor one educator and one support professional for doing an outstanding job within a district or school. The school district selects the award recipients, who then are presented with a certificate and PASR pin by YCPASR along with a monetary gift. Receiving this year’s professional award was Victoria Moser, a learning support educator at the middle school. Working alongside Moser and also receiving an award was Debra Zavatsky, who is a classroom
paraprofessional. These educators work diligently to provide their students with the opportunities and support they need to achieve their goals and work toward a bright future. One highlight of the luncheon was the awarding of the John Markish Memorial Scholarship to two graduating seniors who are pursuing careers in education. This was the 40th year that YCPASR has presented the scholarships, and forty-four students representing 17 school districts from across York County have benefited from the program to a total of $44,000. Receiving $2,000 each, the scholarship winners were Rachel Scheib from Northern High School, who will attend Grove City College to major in special education, and Alexandria Palmieri from Red Lion Area High School, who will attend Kutztown University to study secondary mathematics. The Volunteer of the Year
Award was presented to Debbie Kronsteiner for her many hours of community service. Total, the entire YCPASR membership provided more than 8,693 hours of service to York County organizations.
Following the presentation of the awards, Expressions, a vocal group from Spring Grove Area School District under the direction of Abigail Kirkpatrick, performed selections across a range of cultural and genre influences.

WellSpan Launches New Record System WellSpan Philhaven has begun the process of launching a new electronic health record system that will help to transform the way it delivers behavioral health care across the region. Beginning in mid-May, the regional behavioral health organization was slated to transition to an advanced record system, starting with its Mount Gretna-based inpatient units, lab, pharmacy, patient access, and registration, among other services. Its outpatient services in Dauphin, Lancaster, and Lebanon counties are slated to
adopt the system in stages through the end of the year. WellSpan Philhaven locations in York and Adams counties and its inpatient unit at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital in Lancaster County have already adopted the new system. The system, a product of Epic - a national health care software firm based in Wisconsin - will allow patients to more easily connect with their care team. It also will allow for better coordination of patients’ care across WellSpan’s locations in central Pennsylvania.
