Residents of the 93rd Legislative District may attend satellite office hours for state Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill in September. The satellite office at Citizens Volunteer Fire Company, 171 S. Market St., Fawn Grove, will be open on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, readers may call Phillips-Hill’s district office at 717-4289889 or 877-207-2272.

love animals and hate to see them in distress. Our goal in creating a fear free environment is to make your pet’s visit go as smoothly and as comfortably as possible. Reducing fear makes for calmer, happier pets, better exams, and makes future visits easier when pets have a positive experience.” Patton Veterinary Hospital employs gentle handling techniques, use of food treats or a pet’s favorite toy, and use of anti-anxiety medications or sedation in order to put pets at ease. Procedures are performed wherever pets are most comfortable such as on the floor or in their owners’ laps as part of the hospital’s “Fear Free” protocol. Patton Veterinary Hospital has been part of Red Lion and York County since 1916 and is currently owned by Dr. Douglas Schmidt. Patton’s mission statement is “To work with our clients and the community to inform, to educate and to provide all companion animals with quality care in a low-stress, family environment.” For more information, please visit www.pattonvethospital.com.

RED LION, Pennsylvania – May 12, 2018 – The Patton Veterinary Hospital is among the leaders in the nation making a visit to the vet a positive experience. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) estimates there are 27,000 small animal hospitals in the United States. During the month of August, the Patton Veterinary Hospital, joins only 39 other facilities across the nation and Canada reaching the prestige certification of Fear Free Practice. Nationally known veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker had the idea for a Fear Free campaign after hearing noted veterinary behaviorist Dr. Karen Overall speak on anxiety and fear in animals in 2009. He launched his “Fear Free Initiative” in 2016 with a view to make visits to veterinary hospitals less stressful for both pets and their owners. “Simply put,” says Dr. Becker, “Fear Free is a commitment to better pet health and well-being based on an understanding of the detrimental effects of fear and stress on animal health.” Many pet owners are familiar with the anxiety surrounding a veterinary visit – the cat who resists going into her carrier or the dog who puts on the brakes when he arrives at the vet’s front door. In fact, a Bayer Veterinary Care usage study reported that 37% of dog owners and 58% of cat owners stated their pets hate going to the vet. Patton wants to change this. “A fearful pet is an unhappy pet, and when pets are unhappy, so are their owners and so is the veterinary staff,” says Dr. Walters, one of Patton’s associate vets. “We

Transit Program Nagle-Geckle Is Tested Out Robert and Christine Nagle of Red Lion have The launch of rabbittransit’s Microtransit pilot project, The Hopper, became effective on Aug. 27. The pilot will bring on-demand transit to the areas of East York and Red Lion, enabling residents to hail rides on smaller, neighborhood friendly-sized public transit buses. Riders can travel within designated zones and also make connections to the fixed route system. rabbittransit’s new service will leverage app-based technology created by TransLoc. The innovative program allows customers to request rides after downloading the Microtransit app using a smartphone. Riders will also be able to call for a ride request by contacting 800632-9063. Reservations must be made on the same day, at least an hour in advance. Following a ride request, the app provides passengers with an estimated pick-up time and when the rider is the next passenger in the queue. Passengers are picked up in nine-person accessible vans and taken where they want to go within a designated zoned area, including connections to the fixed route. The app also alerts passengers when their ride is about to reach their desired destination. The Red Lion / Windsor Commons Hopper will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Red Lion. Riders can travel anywhere within the designated zone for Red Lion/Windsor Commons. The York Mall/East York Hopper will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in East York. Riders can travel anywhere within the designated zone for East York. The on-demand service is available on weekdays. There will be a nominal cost per trip as part of an introductory rate, increasing slightly to the base rate following the introduction period. The program will be evaluated after a six-month period to determine if the pilot is beneficial or needs modifications. Those who are interested in using The Hopper can download the Microtransit app by visiting Google Play or the App Store and searching “Microtransit” or visit www.ridethehopper.org.
