New Trail Towns Program Posted

July4York Will Not Take Place Eventive, the event planning and production division of the York Revolution, recently announced that the 2020 July4York event has been canceled. Given the ongoing public safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions established by the state to address those concerns, organizers found that it is not possible to host a large public event this year. Organizers said July4York will be back in 2021. For more information, readers may call 717-801-4489 or visit www.eventiveyork.com.

Pennsylvania. State Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill helped secure a $300,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, allowing the YCEA to provide funding directly to projects that support the program, such as wayfinding, promotional materials, educational workshops for businesses, physical improvements, and other projects identified by each community. During the past several months, the YCEA - working in partnership with York County Parks, York County Rail Trail Authority, and Explore York conducted dozens of interviews, surveyed the trail-related services and assets in each community, and sketched out a process that will lead to each community officially becoming a York County Trail Town. This summer, residents will be engaged in conducting inventories of their towns

intended to gather feedback on their community from the perspective of a trail user. York County celebrated new sections of the Heritage Rail Trail in 2019 and anticipates the entire trail completion in 2021. YCEA’s Trail Towns program is part of an overall strategy to boost the economies of the small, historic communities throughout York County. Although the first phase is limited to five communities, future phases of the Trail Towns program could support communities along the Hanover Trolley Trail, such as Hanover and Spring Grove, and communities like Wrightsville, which is emerging as a recreational hub at the crossroads of the Susquehanna River, Northwest River Trail, and Mason-Dixon Trail. To learn more about the York County Trail Towns program, readers may visit www.yorkcounty trailtowns.com.

Fire and EMS companies in York County received $788,177 through the Fire Company Grant and Emergency Medical Service Grant programs during fiscal year 2019-20. The funding will aid fire and EMS companies as they experience the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused many of the companies to sideline fundraising efforts. The grants may be used for

construction or renovation of a unit’s station, the purchase or repair of equipment, training, or debt reduction. The program is funded solely from state gaming proceeds. Local first responders can apply for additional funding after the House of Representatives approved legislation to allocate $50 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act dollars. The grant

funding will be used to help fire and EMS companies with added costs they have encountered due to COVID-19, as well as the loss of fundraising opportunities due to the stay-at-home orders and other mitigation efforts. The funds would be distributed in the same manner as the annual Fire Company Grant Program and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, respectively.

In recent weeks, Americans have turned to parks, trails, streams, and open space in historic numbers, as a respite from the chaos of the ongoing public health and economic crisis. In York County, the 21-mile York Heritage Rail Trail has become a magnet for county residents seeking fresh air, healthy recreation, and mental relaxation in a setting that lends itself to social distancing. As a result, the York County Economic Alliance (YCEA) announced the launch of the York County Trail Towns program in five communities along the York Heritage Rail Trail. These communities are York, Seven Valleys, Glen Rock, Railroad, and New Freedom. The goal of the Trail Towns program is to use the Heritage Rail Trail as a platform for economic development by encouraging hundreds of thousands of annual trail users to venture off the trail and into the towns to patronize local businesses. The ability to launch this program is made possible through the Commonwealth of

declared missing in action following an attack during the MeuseArgonne Offensive, at the time the largest offensive in American military history. His fate was unknown until March 20, 1919, when his gravesite was located near the town of Montfaucon, France. Rehmeyer’s remains were then returned to Stewartstown, where his funeral was held in 1919 at St. John Cemetery, hosted by the Stewart American Legion, now called the Stewartstown post. Members of American Legion Post 455, Post 455 Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion,

Stewartstown Young Vets U12 Baseball Team, and community members also placed American flags on the graves of all veterans interred at Stewartstown Cemetery. The effort was led by former Post commander Al Stone, along with volunteers and family members from the post and community. The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by memorial readings and prayers led by ALR chaplain Curtis Steeg. The placement of flags is part of the annual effort to remember individuals who have served in the U.S. military. The flags will remain in place at the cemetery through July to honor veterans for their service and sacrifices. Cindy Ward was the winner of the American Legion Stewartstown Post 455 drawing held on May 25. Post 455 sponsored the drawing to raise funds for new equipment and other improvements to the Post. Tickets were sold over the last several months by Post 455 Legion members and Sons of the Legion, Auxiliary Members and ALR members. For information on joining

American Legion Riders Post 455 chaplain Curtis Steeg read a history of Memorial Day and a prayer for deceased service members during a recent ceremony. Post 455, readers may contact Post adjutant Robin Fisher at 717-993-2682.

On May 28, Christian School of York (CSY) hosted graduation in a drive-up format. To align with social distancing practices, students were asked to invite their closest family and friends to drive up and enjoy the commencement celebration from the comfort of their vehicles. After listening to a digital

compilation song from the CSY choir members and hearing the formal addresses via shortwave radio, each student had the opportunity to exit his or her vehicle and walk across an outdoor stage wearing a CSY face mask to receive his or her diploma from the head of school and principal,

who also wore face masks. Ivan Vuckovic presented the valedictorian address, and Mallory Tome provided the salutatorian address. Nicholas Bertram, president of Giant Food Stores, presented the commencement address. Readers may visit w w w. c s y online.com for more information.

FORMER KNEE PAIN SUFFERER SHARES: “I was looking at surgery…But now there’s no need.” New Knee Pain Workshop Helps Local People Get Back to Normal Naturally, Without Unnecessary Pain Pills, Injections, or Surgeries. • Are you careful how you move because you’re afraid your knee might “give out”? • Do you find yourself taking Tylenol, Aleve or Advil just to get through the day? • Are you missing out on family time because of knee pain? • Have you changed the way you do everyday activities - like going up and down stairs or getting in and out of a car? • Do you try to just “keep going” but you feel limited in what you can do? • Do you feel worn out and held back because of your knee? If you answered “YES” to any of the above questions, the Knee Pain Workshop may be a life changing event for you… Hello, Knee pain can completely destroy your life…we’ve seen it many times. It can make you avoid the things you once loved doing such as taking walks with the dog, spending time outdoors with the family, or even doing simple household chores. I’ve seen many folks afraid to do everyday things like going up and down the stairs or getting out of the car because they don’t know if their knee is going to “give out” and make them fall. Knee pain can: • Make you feel like you’re not your normal self… • It can zap and take away your energy… • It can make you feel depressed as you see other people doing the things you wish you could be doing… It can be a downward spiral. Not good. Here at Madden Physical Therapy we’ve helped literally hundreds of knee pain sufferers cancel their surgery, get off of pain meds and anti-inflammatories…and get back to feeling like their normal self again. Naturally. That’s why we’re hosting a Knee Pain Workshop on Wednesday, July 8th at 7pm right here at Madden Physical Therapy in Shrewsbury in the Giant Shopping Center (right next to AAA). If you’ve been told you have arthritis, or bone-on-bone on your X-ray and you absolutely need surgery…here’s some of what you’ll learn: 1. The Top 3 Causes of Knee Pain that can lead to a Knee Replacement and a long recovery. (One of them you won’t believe…) 2. The #1 Single Biggest Mistake that Knee Pain sufferers make that can lead directly to surgery. 3. A sure-fire way to get your life back and pick the right treatment for the cause of your pain (and save you time and money). 4. What successful treatment and permanent relief look like without the side effects of unnecessary medications, injections or surgery. “When I first started my PT at Madden, I had trouble with just about everything. My knees hurt and sometimes fell out from under me. Since my PT, I have been able to clean with a bit of pain but nothing like it had been and I am able to do things with my grandkids again! When I went on vacation, I put so many steps on my legs and didn’t mind at all!” -Sharon M. So, if you want to get your life back and handle the cause of your knee pain, here’s how to register to learn more. Call Heather at 717-210-9945 today. Tell her you would like to “Save your seat for the Knee Pain Workshop.” To make sure all attendees questions are answered, space is limited to 10 seats… and seats fill up FAST. All registrants will receive a FREE copy of the Top 3 Exercises for Knee Pain when they come to the workshop.
