The Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors Committee will honor Dr. David Renaut as its first honoree during its inaugural honors program and reception at Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the library, 101 Glenview Road, Spring Grove. Renaut will be honored for his many years of dedicated service to the library and Spring Grove community. The public is invited. Renaut retired from his position as superintendent from the Spring Grove Area School District (SGASD) in July after 39 years as a public school educator. He served 18 of those years at SGASD, where he initially started as principal of New Salem Elementary School in 2001. Prior to coming to Spring Grove, Renaut worked for the Carroll County Public School District and the Southern York County School District. During the span of his
career, he taught fifth- and sixthgrade social studies and served as an assistant middle school principal, assistant elementary school principal, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent. In addition, Renaut taught as an adjunct professor at York College of Pennsylvania. According to Glatfelter Memorial Library manager Ellen Helfrick, the library’s newly established honors program will annually recognize a local leader who makes the community a better place to live and learn. The honors ceremony will include commentary by guest speakers who will pay tribute to Renaut. They include Karen Baum, who is a retired lead teacher from New Salem Elementary School where Renaut served as principal. She currently serves as a school board member for the SGASD. New Salem Elementary
School principal Robert Shick will also speak. He was a teacher when he worked with Renaut, who was principal, at Shrewsbury Elementary School in the Southern York County School District. Kathy Eshbach, SGASD assistant elementary principal, worked with him during his roles as the district’s assistant superintendent and superintendent. The youngest speaker will be Emma Lewis, a first-grader at Spring Grove Elementary School and his granddaughter. A reception will follow the program. A key component of the Glatfelter Honors event is to raise funds to continue providing services and programs to the community. Contributions to the Honors Fund are welcome by donating securely online at https://donate.yorklibraries.org. To register for the celebration by Friday, Nov. 8, readers may
visit https://donate.york libraries.org or call Bridget Vigue at 717-849-6979. The day’s event is planned by the Glatfelter Memorial Library Honors Committee, which includes Honors Committee Chair Kristen Henning and Alissa Barshinger.

YCSWA Sponsors Puppet Shows GNA recycling and cele- Dragon, into a character who Announces brateTo promote America Recycles Day on tells students of the waste-toNov. 15, the York County energy technology used at the Partnership Friday, Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) York County Resource Recovery is sponsoring puppet show Center (RRC). Groff North America (GNA), an industrial hemp agribusiness located in Red Lion, has announced a partnership with US Cotton, based in Gastonia, N.C., on the launch of a hemp-based cosmetic brand, BLUMME. The announcement comes nearly one year since the United States Congress passed the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, which declassified industrial hemp from a Schedule 1 drug to an agricultural commodity, legal in all 50 states. GNA was founded by Steve Groff, a Lancaster Countyborn third-generation dairy farmer turned orthopedic surgeon. The business is focused on pioneering the resurgence of the hemp industry in the United States and beyond. GNA launched operations in December 2018 and has a focus on whole plant utilization. GNA’s processing center and research park headquartered in Red Lion accepted delivery of North America’s first commercially installed HempTrain Advanced Processing Facility in October. The complex will serve as one of the first of its kind in the United States, providing research, development, and production of hemp-based derivatives. GNA’s vertically integrated business model allows it to understand the product life cycle from raw material generation to consumer product. GNA recently announced the acquisition of Canadian Greenfield Technologies, the developer of the HempTrain. GNA anticipates the deal to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2019. GNA has also assembled a team of multi-disciplinary physicians who oversee its brick-and-mortar retail stores and consumer brand, Farmacy Partners (FP). More information on GNA is available at https://groffna.com.

Students will see ordinary household items “recycled” into characters who promote care of the environment through reduction of waste, as well as reuse and recycling of materials. Jacobs has also developed the YCSWA mascot, Buster the Combustor
She will present the assembly programs from Wednesday, Nov. 6, through Friday, Nov. 15. Performances will run approximately 45 minutes and feature audience participation. Schools hosting performances are Delta-Peach Bottom Elementary, Holy Trinity Catholic, Locust Grove Elementary, Newberry Elementary, Pleasant View Elementary, Southern Elementary, Valley View Elementary, Wallace Elementary and Yorkshire Elementary.

A survey has been created to capture the opinions and suggestions of York County residents. The survey can be completed electronically by visiting http://bit.ly/school-comm-survey. Vicki Bries Rieder of Seven Valleys has released her first children’s picture book, “Slumberina.” The book was published by StoryBook Genius Publishing. “Slumberina” was inspired by Rieder’s daughter’s anxiety at bedtime. For many years, Rieder and her husband searched for a solution to help their daughter relax at bedtime. Then, their daughter lost a tooth and the Tooth Fairy left her a special note, which offered the girl a way to self-soothe when she was afraid at night. Rieder shared the contents of the Tooth Fairy note with her mother in Iowa, and her mother suggested that Rieder turn the note into a story in order to help other children with similar sleep issues.
