Super Sportsman Tour To Return BAPS Motor Speedway owner Scott Gobrecht and general manager Kolten Gouse have worked hard to preserve the history of the Super Sportsman division. When Gobrecht purchased the speedway at the end of 2015, the Super Sportsman class was brought on as the headliner. Two years ago, the duo instituted a Hall of Fame to honor the past and current greats who have made an impact on the division. The management team wants to continue to tap into the past to move the division forward. To

do so, Gobrecht and Gouse have announced that they are bringing back the Super Sportsman Tour, which will be highlighted by an eight-race schedule in 2020. According to Gouse, the decision was made as a way to grow the division, as the Super Sportsman Tour was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s and is known to be a competitive class. Marysville Motorcars has come on board as the title sponsor for the series. The winner of the series will receive $1,000,

Community Center Posts Fundraiser, Event For the 12th consecutive year, the Meals on Wheels network is participating in the 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event. Over the past 11 years, Subaru and its retailers have helped Meals on Wheels to deliver more than 2.2 million meals nationwide to seniors in need. As a participant in Meals on Wheels, Golden Connections Community Center (GCCC) provides nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to seniors of York County so recipients can stay independent and healthy. The 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event began on Nov. 14 and will continue through Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. During this timeframe, for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities. Meals on Wheels is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. Through this

event, as a member of Meals on W heels America, GCCC will receive a share of the donation from Subaru vehicles sold at participating Subaru retailers. Additionally, GCCC, located at 20-C Gotham Place, Red Lion, will host a Give Back Event along with a kickoff to the 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event on Friday, Nov. 22. Community members are invited to visit GCCC that day for a bake sale at 10 a.m., line dancing at 10:15 a.m., and a donation drive all day. Requested items in the donation drive include toothpaste, toothbrushes, wash cloths, combs, soap, hand sanitizer, adhesive bandages, antibiotic ointment, socks, gloves, hats, small packets of facial tissues, gum and nonperishable snacks. These items will be distributed to homeless veterans. Additionally, blankets are sought for distribution to children in need of love this holiday season. All donations must be new and still in their original packaging.

Agency Presents Awards Bell Socialization Services Inc. recently recognized the recipients of several awards. The agency’s Business of the Year Award was presented to the Hanover Area Council of Churches. Sylvia Green accepted the award, which is presented to a business that contributes time and resources to assist Bell in fulfilling its mission within the community. The council was recognized at Bell’s annual meeting on Oct. 4 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York. The council provides a space for individuals in Bell’s Adult Training Facility (ATF) in New Oxford to volunteer to help sort clothes donated from the community. The individuals, all who live with varying degrees of intellectual disabilities, have developed friendships with the staff members because they are welcomed with genuine respect.

The Rita Patz Good Neighbor Award was presented to Green Food Market. This honor is awarded to an individual or group that depicts not only being a neighbor of Bell Socialization Services Inc. but is close in association by providing neighborly time and/or resources to Bell. Representatives of Green Food Market received the award at the store with members of the Options group in attendance. Myung Goum Na and Min Heay Na, owners of Green Food Market, located one block from the agency’s main office in downtown York, have provided quality customer service to Bell’s Intellectual Disability Social Recreation program attendees. The owners are patient and helpful, and they show respect to all of the individuals as they shop there. When Gay Swartz, who leads the program, mentioned to the

Bell Socialization Services Inc. presented the Margo Atwood Community Services Award to Leigh Lauer at its annual meeting. She was nominated by Melinda Hershner. The award, named after a dedicated, longterm volunteer, is bestowed upon the individual or group that

provides time and resources to enhance Bell’s programs. During Bell’s Give Local York campaign this year, Lauer played a significant role in making the day successful by arranging hot dog sales at six Weis stores, which raised money and helped increase Bell’s visibility across the county.
