A Letter From The Publisher Dear valued Community Courier readers and advertisers, After 45 years of serving the community in York County, publication of the Community Courier will be suspended indefinitely. The final issue you will receive in your mailbox will be this one, dated Dec. 23, 2020. We are deeply saddened that we had to make such an
unfortunate decision due to the ongoing impact of the last 10 months of uncertainly and an unpredictable marketplace. It has been an honor to serve you and the many people and organizations that make our community so special. We thank you for your loyal readership and advertising over the years and hope that we all can be stronger together after this
difficult time has passed. Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. (EPC) is the parent company of the Community Courier. EPC continues to serve Lancaster County, Chester County and the Greater Hershey area with local community newspapers. Sincerely, Jocelyn Engle Publisher

Christmas Tree Recycling Set The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) will hold a free Christmas tree recycling program for all York County residents. Beginning Saturday, Dec. 26, residents may bring their tree to the parking lot located directly across the street from the York County Resource Recovery Center on Blackbridge Road in York. Residents should follow the signs along Blackbridge Road directing them to the proper location. Residents should remove any ornaments, lights, tinsel, and protective bags prior to dropping off their
tree. H & H General Excavating will recycle the trees into mulch for use in the warmer months. This program allows residents to easily dispose of their Christmas tree while reducing waste. The YCSWA Christmas tree recycling program will run through Sunday, Jan. 31. Many municipalities now offer curbside Christmas tree collection for their residents, as well. Residents should call their municipal office to see if their municipality offers a curbside collection program. Haulers collecting dedicated loads
of Christmas trees in municipal programs are accepted at no charge during regular business hours at the YCSWA’s Small Load Drop-off Facility at the Resource Recovery Center. Other drop-off sites for Christmas trees include H&H Excavating, 660 Old Hanover Road, Spring Grove, which may be contacted at 717-225-4669, and Spring Valley Mulch, 2470 Millcreek Road, Dover, which may be contacted at 717-292-3476. York County residents can now purchase 2021 dog licenses. State law requires all dogs age 3 months and older to be licensed by Friday, Jan. 1. There is a fee for an annual dog license, which is discounted if the animal is spayed or neutered. Lifetime licenses are available for dogs with permanent identifications. Older adults and persons with disabilities may purchase a license at a discounted rate. The owner’s contact information is used by the
Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law, local police, and shelters to identify lost dogs and get them home safely. Failure to purchase a license for a dog may result in a fine. License fees support animal control services. Dog owners may purchase the licenses online, by mail, or in person at the Treasurer’s Office, which is located at the York County Administrative Center, 28 E. Market St., York, or at any one of the 11 satellite subagents throughout York County. More information, including
the mailing address, is available by visiting www.yorkcountypa.gov and clicking on “Departments” at the top of the page, and then “Treasurer.” Readers may also visit www.facebook.com/ yorkcountytreasurer. If a dog has lost its lifetime license tag, the Treasurer’s Office can issue replacement tags. Owners should also notify the Treasurer’s Office if there is a change in their contact information. For assistance, readers may contact Alison Falcon at afalcon@yorkcounty pa.gov or 717-771-4386.
Local Company On Top 500 List Bin There Dump That, a residential-friendly dumpster franchise founded in Canada in 2001 and franchising in Canada and the U.S. since 2003, earned a spot on Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 List for 2020. Each year, franchise organizations across North America complete the entry process in hopes of earning a place on the list. Beginning in July 2019, a record-breaking 1,105 companies supplied all of the required information to be considered for the 2020 list. When the data analysis was complete, Bin There Dump That was included on the list with a ranking of 246. Some of the key factors for the evaluation of qualifying
franchises fall into what Entrepreneur Magazine calls the Five Pillars of the Franchise 500. The pillars include costs and fees, support, size and growth, brand strength and financial strength and stability. In addition, a franchisor must be seeking new franchisees in the U.S. or Canada and must have had a minimum of 10 units open and operating as of July 31, 2019, with at least one in North America. Franchisors who successfully meet these requirements and provide the necessary financial and operating information receive a score based on more than 150 data points. Those with the highest cumulative scores are named to the list.
Bin There Dump That provides dumpsters ranging in capacity up to 20 yards to accommodate a wide variety of residential projects from simple cleanups to major renovations. To learn more about renting a dumpster or to discuss a project with a Bin There Dump That dumpster consultant, readers may contact Dolly Armstrong at Bin There Dump That of Harrisburg at 717-766-7857 or dolly@ bintheredumpthat.com or Justin Sierer of Bin There Dump That of York at 717-900-5101 or york@bin theredumpthat.com. Area Food Bank Receives Gift The Delta Dental Community Care Foundation has announced that it will give $225,000 to food banks in Pennsylvania. This announcement fell on Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement that encourages people and organizations to do good. The donation seeks to help people experiencing
food insecurity during the pandemic. Dental caries, or the disease that causes tooth decay, has been linked to food insecurity, meaning a disruption in food intake or eating patterns due to a lack of resources, according to the foundation. Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Harrisburg
will receive $50,000 from the foundation. This gift will provide more than 300,000 meals to people in need in central Pennsylvania during the holiday season. To learn more about the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and how to support its efforts, readers may visit www.centralpafood bank.org.

FORMER KNEE PAIN SUFFERER SHARES: “I was looking at surgery… But now there’s no need.” New Knee Pain Workshop Helps Local People Get Back to Normal Naturally, Without Unnecessary Pain Pills, Injections, or Surgeries. Are you careful how you move because you’re afraid your knee might “give out”? Do you find yourself taking Tylenol, Aleve or Advil just to get through the day? Are you missing out on family time because of knee pain? Have you changed the way you do everyday activities - like going up and down stairs or getting in and out of a car? Do you try to just “keep going” but you feel limited in what you can do? Do you feel worn out and held back because of your knee? If you answered “YES” to any of the above questions, the Knee Pain Workshop may be a life changing event for you… Hello, Knee pain can completely destroy your life…we’ve seen it many times. It can make you avoid the things you once loved doing such as taking walks with the dog, spending time outdoors with the family, or even doing simple household chores. I’ve seen many folks afraid to do everyday things like going up and down the stairs or getting out of the car because they don’t know if their knee is going to “give out” and make them fall. Knee pain can: • Make you feel like you’re not your normal self… • It can zap and take away your energy… • It can make you feel depressed as you see other people doing the things you wish you could be doing… It can be a downward spiral. Not good. Here at Madden Physical Therapy we’ve helped literally hundreds of knee pain sufferers cancel their surgery, get off of pain meds and anti-inflammatories… and get back to feeling like their normal self again. Naturally. That’s why we’re hosting a Knee Pain Workshop on Wednesday, January 6th at 7pm right here at Madden Physical Therapy in Shrewsbury (in the Giant Shopping Center, right next to AAA). If you’ve been told you have arthritis, or bone-on-bone on your X-ray and you absolutely need surgery…here’s some of what you’ll learn: 1. The Top 3 Causes of Knee Pain that can lead to a Knee Replacement and a long recovery. (One of them you won’t believe…) 2. The #1 Single Biggest Mistake that Knee Pain sufferers make that can lead directly to surgery. 3. A sure-fire way to get your life back and pick the right treatment for the cause of your pain (and save you time and money). 4. What successful treatment and permanent relief look like without the side effects of unnecessary medications, injections or surgery. “Matt spoke with me after I attended their free clinic to alleviate knee pain without drugs or surgery. He evaluated my strengths and weaknesses and set up an exercise program to help ease my pain and to restore my mobility and balance. Now I can stand, sit, walk and do yard work for a few hours at a time, not minutes like before I started. I feel as though I have been given a second chance at my family life.” - Sandra W. So, if you want to get your life back and handle the cause of your knee pain, here’s how to register to learn more. Call Callie at 717-304-1520 today. Tell her you would like to “Save your seat for the Knee Pain Workshop.” To make sure all attendees questions are answered, space is limited to 15 seats… and seats fill up FAST. I’m looking forward to seeing you there and helping you become your “normal self” again. Matt Conroy, Physical Therapist Madden Physical Therapy R066633

The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) has announced the suspension of various services due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to reduce person-to-person contact. Effective Dec. 9, the YCSWA has suspended residential electronics recycling until further notice. Residents who would normally bring their electronic devices to the YCSWA’s free electronics recycling program should hold onto their electronic devices until the pandemic has ended. Once it is safe to do so, the YCSWA will reopen electronics recycling to residents. Additionally, the YCSWA is sus-
pending its free in-person facility tours and environmental education programming. Virtual options are available to educators and the public. Options include video tours of the York County Resource Recovery Center and the York County Sanitary Landfill/Hopewell Area Recreation Complex, printable environmental activities, virtual presentations, and more. Readers may visit www.ycswa.com/online -learning-resources/ for more information. When it is safe to do so, the YCSWA will reinstate residential electronics recycling, in-person tours, and programming.
