Katie Pershing, donor relations and communications coordinator, who has been with the organization for a year and a half, answered the following questions: What is the mission of Logos Academy? How does the school work to achieve its goals? Our mission is: Logos Academy, an urban, Kingdom school grounded in the love of Christ, educates for excellence, offers opportunity, and cultivates hope in our community. Logos Academy is a private K-12 school in York, accredited by the Middle States Association and registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Since its founding in 1998, Logos has built a tradition of providing an excellent education that is affordable for all families in York, reserving two-thirds of classroom seats for students who live below or near the federal poverty line. In the 2018-19 academic year, the full per-student tuition rate was $9,270, but due to the generosity of our local community, the average student paid $1,966 to attend Logos Academy. Last year, 99% of our students
received tuition assistance. Founded in 1998 with 14 kindergarten and first-grade students, Logos has grown to more than 270 students. Logos provides an ideal learning environment in small class sizes through the following five core values: Christ-centered, culturally diverse, community-minded, classically educated, and collaborative family partnerships. Approximately how many staff members and volunteers are involved? Approximately 50 staff /volunteers. Did Logos Academy participate in the inaugural Give Local York last year? Yes! We had a wonderful experience participating in Give Local York’s inaugural give day. As just one part of our outreach, we were able to
partner locally with Hamir’s Indian Fusion on George Street, which graciously donated a portion of their proceeds to Logos Academy. We had several current donors and new donors give! What are the organization’s goals for 2019? One of our strategic goals is that we are building a playground on our campus at 250 W. King St. Students at Logos Academy and in the neighborhood at Newberry Street have long needed a safe place for active play. In the coming year, we plan to add a playground to our campus on King Street that will be used for our 260plus students and be open to the community after school. This will be a place for building relationships, physical activity, and fun! Proceeds from Give Local York will benefit the building of our playground.

The 18th annual Pinnacle Cup Team Match Play Tournament will take place on Monday, June 10, at the Royal Manchester Golf Links, 5700 Board Road, Mount Wolf. In the past 17 years, more than 500 players from nine states have played in the event, which has raised more than $75,000 for the GEARS Camp Ladybug Summer Program and Hershey’s Children’s Miracle Network. The two groups have been the golf tournament’s main beneficiaries. “A match play tournament is very unusual, especially involving a charity event,” explained tournament director Clair Dale Treese. “In match play, every hole is important. The players like that ... they have to make a shot for their team. But by using
a scramble method of play, some of the pressure is taken off the individual knowing they have a partner. We stress this is a friendly competition, but there is still an element of ‘butterflies’ when you really need to make a good golf shot.” Teams are paired based on their combined handicaps and indexed according to the United States Golf Association (USGA) rating of the course. Each team will play three matches of nine holes each for a total of 27 holes overall, and teams that qualify after the three initial matches will continue to the single-elimination championship match play rounds. In those matches, each team will play best-of-three holes. The final two teams will play to determine an overall tournament team champion.
