July4York, York’s free Independence Day celebration, will kick off at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, at the home of the York Revolution, 5 Brooks Robinson Way, York. York Traditions Bank, presenting sponsor of July4York, and Eventive have announced that the event will feature plenty of family-friendly, free fun to celebrate America’s birthday. Among the highlights will be live music throughout the afternoon and evening, a plaza full of Americana nostalgia and fun for children, the chance to climb the highest wall in professional baseball, and a fireworks display. This year, July4York will welcome The Cave bouldering gym of New Cumberland. The Cave staff members recently visited the home of the York Revolution to map out a climbing route up the Arch Nemesis wall in left field. The party will begin on the

Brooks Robinson Plaza outside the ballpark, where there will be free activities for children. The plaza will also be home to the Independence Walk, a display of vintage American flags sponsored by local companies and individuals to raise funds for the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden. The walk is part of Independence Weekend in York, a partnership with Downtown Inc, which will host a patriotic window display contest for downtown merchants for First Friday, the day after July4York. As partygoers enjoy the plaza or make their ascents up the left field wall, the eight-piece Big Boy Brass Band will stroll through the crowds to

provide the event’s soundtrack. Favorite summertime foods and beverages will be available. The celebration will culminate with a fireworks display, which will launch at 9:30 p.m. thanks to the sponsorship of Glatfelter Insurance Group. For additional details, readers may visit www.July4York.com.

On behalf of the KCA board, board member Paul McNally presented framed calligraphy in the shape of a tree composed of the names of all the students during the Egers’ tenure at KCA. The Association of Christian Schools also bestowed the Career Service and Achievement Award on both George and Pat. In 2016, the Egers received the Story Award from the Council for American Private Education for their work in establishing KCA in 2014. The new school would embody their passion to educate

children who learn differently from others. Through KCA, the Egers would remove many barriers to Christian education such as faith statement requirements for parents, high tuition, and rigid teaching methods. Instead, the Egers offered an affordable education with a flexible curriculum tailored to individual learning styles and a desire to provide Christian influence and teaching to children who may not have it at home. The retirement celebration also recognized KCA’s other founders: former CSY director of development Kim Martin, who retired from KCA after helping to start the school; business manager Barbara Eisenhart, who is retiring with the Egers; and former CSY teacher Jessica Potter, who will replace Pat Eger as head of school effective Monday, July 1. Gary Hiller, who served as master of ceremonies for the retirement celebration, will continue as director of development on the administrative team. KCA serves children from prekindergarten through grade nine within the facilities of Asbury Church at 340 E. Market St. in York’s historic district. The school is currently enrolling students for the 2019-20 school year.
