United States Air Force Ceremonial Brass, primary substitute trumpeter for the Kennedy Center’s National Symphony Orchestra, and principal trumpet of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Apollo Orchestra. Event To Raise Awareness About Human Trafficking Sparrow Place will hold a community awareness event about human trafficking on Saturday, Oct. 13, at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Road, York, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mature content will be presented, and the events is for teenagers and adults only. The speaker will be Theresa Flores, a survivor of domestic human trafficking, an author, a victim advocate, a consultant, a speaker, and the founder of Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution (SOAP). Flores was trafficked within a trafficking ring in an upper middle class suburb from the time she was 15 to 17 years old. She now works with other survivors and speaks to communities that are ready to get involved in solutions. Flores is featured in the short documentary “The Girl Next Door,” and she has been a licensed social worker for more than 20 years. The event will also include a question-andanswer session with anti-trafficking advocates. A book signing will take place from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Sparrow Place is a local organization looking to open a specialized, complex traumainformed, long-term residential restoration program in York County for survivors of domestic sex trafficking. Parks Department Sets Anniversary Party The York County Parks 50th anniversary party will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Wyndham Garden York, 2000 Loucks Road, York. Doors will open at 5 p.m. The event will include hors d’oeuvres, dinner, a silent auction, and more. Richard Louv, journalist and author of nine books, including international bestseller, “Last Child in the Woods,” will speak at the event. Local news anchor Evan Forrester will be the master of ceremonies. A social hour, with hors d’oeuvres and the silent auction, will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Dinner and dessert will

TAFE Slates Auditions Theatre Arts For Everyone (TAFE) will hold auditions for “The Night Before Christmas” and TAFE’s Touring Company. The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) will present a concert titled “The Eroica” on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. This concert is the first Classical Series performance of the 2018-19 season, “Heroes!” The Classical Series will open with Beethoven’s “Egmont” Overture, portraying the life and heroism of the 16th-century Dutch nobleman Lamoral, Count of Egmont. Egmont was a loyal subject of Philip II of Spain, yet he opposed the Spanish repression of the Netherlands. Egmont was captured and executed as a traitor for conspiring against the regime. The concert will also feature a special performance by York Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet Nathan Clark, as he performs the Trumpet Concerto by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Clark is a York native and resides in York County with his family. He is also a member of the

Concert 4 A Cause York Slated Jewish Family Services (JFS) of York will hold its sixth annual Concert 4 A Cause York at Wyndridge Farm, 885 S. Pleasant Ave., Dallastown, on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The concert fundraiser benefits programs and services that support elders, families, and caregivers, regardless of faith, in the greater York area. The concert’s featured performer will be the Frank Vignola Trio. Vignola, a jazz guitarist, is listed as one of Les Paul’s “Five Most Admired Guitarists� and has performed with artists including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, and Tommy Emmanuel. Accompanied by vocalist Audra Mariel, the trio will feature jazz and timeless standards for people of all ages.

September House, 1251 W. King St., York, has posted its upcoming schedule of activities. On Monday, Oct. 8, the senior center will be closed for Columbus Day. On Tuesday, Oct. 9, bingo will be played at 12:45 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 10:45 a.m., Summit Search-and-Rescue dogs will demonstrate their
skills, and the service dog program will be highlighted. Volunteers will also finish decorating for the upcoming “Back to the ’50s” party. On Thursday, Oct. 10, the monthly Activity Planning Meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Bingo will be played at 12:45 p.m. The 1950s party will take place on Friday, Oct. 12. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1950s poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Kerry White will perform music from that era starting at 12:45 p.m. The senior center delivers meals to homebound seniors on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and is in need of volunteers to help with the deliveries. Routes are within one mile of the center, and requires a commitment of one to two hours. Daily workouts will be offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial arts program, will be taught by a certified teacher on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. A study group for those interested in obtaining their ham (amateur) radio operator’s license will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. The senior center also offer
cards and games throughout the week. Pinochle is played every Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. Chess is played on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the bridge club meets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. The center is also adding a group for shuffleboard on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and the group is looking for additional players. All are welcome to play or watch. A variety of board games, cards, and jigsaw puzzles are also available for everyone to enjoy. In addition, wood burning classes and workshops are held on the first and third Fridays.

Northeastern Dramatics Slates “Lockers” Northeastern Dramatics will present its underclassman play, “Lockers,” on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, at 7 p.m. at Northeastern High School, 300 High St., Manchester. “Lockers,” by Jeremy Krouse, is a collection of comic and serious scenes depicting life in high school. The show will feature 18 ninth- and 10th-grade students, including the following sophomores: Savanna Garbarino, Jayden Herod, Ally Hudak, Israel Myers, Paige Shiffler, Annabelle Sutton and Kyira Trevino. Several students have featured monologues, and other scenes include everyone in the ensemble. Separate ticket prices have been set for adults and for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available for purchase from cast members. They will also be available at the door.
