She was drawn to the building’s unique architecture, history and reputation as a haunted site. Constructed in 1804 for Samuel Miller, the building also housed the Columbia Bank and Bridge Company and was a stop on the Underground Railroad, Chris said. “It’s been said members of the Union Army had meetings here to discuss the burning of the bridge,” he noted, referring to the well-known local event often recognized as a turning point of the Civil War. Brenneman’s Feed Mill moved into the building in the late 1800s. The building’s long and colorful history has led many to believe Amy and Chris included - that the premises are haunted. Chris has been alone in the building when the dial on his grandmother’s old-fashioned radio has moved, or clock hands have spun. He’s heard footsteps upstairs, and he tries to avoid the building’s third floor, which he deems “creepy.” Amy said she has photographic evidence of ghosts, and as recently as mid-June, she was nudged down a step by an unseen force. The spooky atmosphere of the building makes it the perfect location for Ghost Tours on Locust, which also operates out of the site. Art Printing serves customers throughout Lancaster, York and Harrisburg, with three types of fullservice printing: letterpress, offset and digital. Chris is a jack of all trades in the company, doing everything from printing and binding to deliveries. “I like to get out to see my customers,” he said. “How many companies do you know where the owner hand-delivers the product?” Looking to the future, Chris and Amy plan to continue to renovate the building, restoring it to be historically accurate. In the meantime, they are enjoying being a part of Columbia. “Columbia is a growing town,” Chris said. “Great things are happening here.

Every three hours, an alarm goes off in Rosemarie Curcio’s house. It lets her know it’s time to feed the pups. But, these aren’t the kind of pups you may be picturing; instead, they are baby bats, and at the moment, 10 of them live in a bat nursery in the basement of Curcio’s Marietta home. For more than 30 years, Curcio has been rescuing and rehabbing bats. “I’ve always been interested in wildlife,” she said. Originally from New York, she volunteered at an animal rescue but didn’t focus on bats until she spent time in bat boot camp at Bat World Sanctuary in Texas over two summers, and she found her true calling. “So much focus is on the ‘glamour’ species that need help - the wolves, the bald eagles - bats are the ugly ones,” she remarked. “I’m always for the underdog. I’m fascinated by bats.” She began caring for bats in her New York City apartment - without telling her landlord - and when she retired from teaching special education, she relocated to Marietta in 2009. will be ready to try flying. Curcio has several large tents set up in her basement for the bats to practice in. Once they are ready, she’ll move them to a rescue in Chester County for outdoor enclosures and more flying opportunities before finally releasing them in a barn near the Pennsylvania and New Jersey border. Curcio admits that her passion might disturb some people, but she emphasizes that bats play an important role in our ecosystem. “Bats are so important because they eat insects. They will consume mosquitoes,” she stated. “Farmers should want them around because they eat beetles and other pests that attack crops.” Her round-the-clock care of the pups means she can never take a vacation during the summer, and she goes about two months without a full night’s sleep, but Curcio doesn’t see giving up her specialty anytime soon. Her home’s basement provided the perfect place to set up a bat sanctuary. Along with the nursery, the basement currently houses nine additional bats. Several are permanent residents because they are unable to fly, and most are big brown bats. Curcio works with Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Washington Boro, where she serves on the board as well. When a call comes in about a bat, it’s forwarded to Curcio. Sometimes, she can advise the person on how to help on the spot. “I always tell people to wear gloves and use a towel if they are handling bats,” she said, noting that bats can carry rabies. “Never touch a bat with bare hands.” If a bat appears to be injured or is too young to survive on its own, Curcio will take it in, with the goal of eventually releasing it into the wild. June is pup season, and after a few weeks of formula feeding, the pups

The Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation is known for attracting up to 6,000 visitors to each of its summer concerts - 30,000 for the July Fourth celebration - as well as offering an annual art festival, but looking ahead, the organization would like to be seen as more collaborative with other organizations. Toward that goal, the Lancaster County Food Hub, SWAN (Scaling Walls A Note at a Time), Lancaster Farmland Trust, Lancaster Conservancy, and the Spanish American Civic Association have been invited to have a part at upcoming concerts, and the art festival will feature up to five up-andcoming new area artists. “After 60 years, people are aware of our summer concerts and our art festival, and now if we can just extend that reach to other great community resources, that is a blessing for everyone,” said Tom Ellis, interim president of the foundation. In celebration of the organization’s anniversary, a gala and art auction will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at The Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Market St., Lancaster. PA residents scramble to get State Silver Bank Rolls PENNSYLVANIA - Once Pennsylvania residents got wind that Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls filled with Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s were being handed over, there was a mad dash to get them. That’s because they are the only Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. “The phones will be ringing off the hook. That’s because everyone will be trying to get them while they still can,” according to officials at the National Mint and Treasury who say they can barely keep up with all the orders. In fact, they had to impose a strict limit of 4 Pennsylvania

State Bank Rolls. So, if you get the chance to get your hands on these State Bank Rolls you better hurry because hundreds of Pennsylvania residents already have and you don’t want to miss out. You see, the U.S. Gov’t stopped minting these Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars in 1947 and there can never be any more which moves them into the collectible coin status. And here’s the best part. The rolls are unsearched so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value. That’s why the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walk-

ing Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Roll is a deal too good to pass up. But you better hurry because these Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents and non-state residents must pay full price if any remain. That’s because they make amazing gifts for children, grandchildren and loved ones. Just imagine the look on their face when you hand them one of the State Bank Rolls — they’ll tell everyone they know what you did for them.

Q GOT ‘EM: These are the only Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. Each Bank Roll is loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars some dating back to the early 1900’s so everyone who wants them better hurry.

Only State Restricted Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls go to Pennsylvania residents Pennsylvania residents get first dibs on Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value starting at 7:30 am today PENNSYLVANIA - “Pennsylvania residents get first dibs. That’s why Hotline Operators are bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. Beginning at precisely 7:30 am this morning State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the State Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars issued by the U.S. Gov’t back in the early 1900’s. But to actually find them sealed away in State Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “But here’s the good news. The Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents only and non-state residents must pay full price if any Bank Rolls remain,” Lynne confirmed This is important to note. “These are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist. You can’t get them at banks or credit unions or the Government since they do not produce State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls. In fact, you can only get them bearing the exclusive State Restricted Design and rolled this way directly from National Mint and Treasury,” Lynne

explained. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit allowed of 4 Bank Rolls per resident while they still can,” said Lynne. “That’s because after the Bank Rolls were loaded with 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties, each verified to meet a minimum collector grade of very good or above, the dates and mint marks of the Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars found inside the Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that some of these coins date clear back to the early 1900’s and are 90% pure silver so Pennsylvania residents who get their hands on them will be glad they did,” Lynne went on to say. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $39 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars worth up to 100 times their face value for just $585 which is a real steal because state residents who miss the deadline and non state residents must pay $118 per coin which totals $1,770 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. “U.S. Gov’t issued coins like these are 90% pure silver and a favorite of dealers, collectors and the like,” Lynne said. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. So the only thing readers need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the State Toll-Free Hotlines printed in today’s publication,” Lynne said. Q

SILVER: One of the last Silver coins minted for circulation

LAST MINTED: in Philadelphia, Denver & San Francisco

STATE MINIMUM: Of just $39 per coin set by National Mint and Treasury

ENLARGED: Year varies 1916-1947

RARELY SEEN: Minted by the U.S. mint in the early 1900’s

TO CLAIM THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE BANK ROLLS CALL: 1-800-260-7945 EXT. WHH1035 Are these Silver Walking Liberties worth more than other half dollars:

Yes. These U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties were minted in the early 1900’s and will never be minted again. That makes them collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all and these Walking Liberty Half Dollars were one of the last silver coins minted for circulation. So there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.

How much are State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls worth:

It’s impossible to say, but some of these U.S Gov’t issued Walking Liberty Half Dollars date back to the early 1900’s and there are 15 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know Walking Liberties are collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.

How do I get the State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls:

Pennsylvania residents are authorized to claim up to the limit of 4 Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls by calling the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-260-7945 Ext. WHH1035 starting at precisely 8:30 am this morning. Everyone who does is getting the only Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. That’s a full Bank Roll containing 15 Silver Walking Liberties from the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value for just the state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walking Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Rolls and that’s a real steal because non state residents must pay $1,770 for each Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

Nation’s top standard in patient safety. Penn Medicine is proud to have all six of our hospitals, including Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Lancaster General Hospital, awarded an “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Because of our dedicated staff, Lancaster General Hospital has received an A grade every year since 2017. This national distinction recognizes, once again, that the health and safety of our patients and community are at the heart of everything that we do.
