Expect hijinks, mistaken identities, and all sorts of shenanigans when Susquehanna Stage presents “Anything Goes,” a comedy about a diverse group of people aboard a cruise ship. The musical will be performed at

the theater, 133 W. Market St., Marietta, on select dates from Friday, July 26, through Sunday, Aug. 4.

“This show is a situational comedy about a celebrity cruise line,” explained Gracious Mattson, who portrays debutante Hope Harcourt. “There are

Featuring seven exercises you can complete in seven minutes, a new Fitness Court has opened in East Donegal Township. The court, created by National Fitness Campaign, is one of just 500 such spaces in the country and the only one in Lancaster County.

“For years, we’ve been looking at trying to develop something like this,” said Scott Kingsboro, assistant township manager, adding that he originally considered installing a traditional fitness trail with various exercise stations along a path. When he

discovered National Fitness Campaign and its all-in-one court, he was intrigued. He soon learned the company, which has a mission to change health outcomes in America, provided grant funding to help support the cost of the court.

The Fitness Court is located at Lloyd H. Fuhrman Memorial Park, 190 Rock Point Road, Marietta. It is open to anyone age 14 and up, and it features equipment for bodyweight exercises including squats, push-ups, pull-ups and lunges.

Users scan a QR code, displayed on a wall of the court, to learn how to use the equipment.

“I truly think this piece of equipment is for anyone from age 14 to 99, because they can customize it or modify it to their comfort level,” Kingsboro said. A push-up station, for example, features tips for beginners (“Apprentice”) to experts (“Savage”).

Residents are invited to attend an opening-day launch event on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m. to try the Fitness Court and learn about upcoming community wellness events and programming.

East Donegal Township is working with GEARS in Elizabethtown, which will provide “ambassadors” to promote the court and demonstrate how to

Summer is in full swing, and that means it’s time for Music in Memorial Park. The annual concert series, presented by the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce, will offer free concerts in War Memorial Park, 101 Marietta Ave., Mount Joy, on Sundays, July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. Beginning at 5 p.m., food trucks will be on-site for each concert, and the music will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Kracker Beez, a

three-piece guitar, bass and drum band, will kick off the concert series on July 28. The group plays a mix of classic party rock ’n’ roll. Spud Muffin, which features fresh-cut french fries, burgers and more, will be the food truck on hand for the first concert.

On Aug. 4, Auscultation Brass will entertain. The band includes physicians who have been playing together since 1985 under the leadership of Dr. Gerald Rothacker. “The Auscultation Brass, now in its 39th year, is

delighted to be returning to the park in Mount Joy after an absence of 25 years,” Rothacker said. “Our medical group of musicians promises a program that is entertaining and educational.” Piper Belles BBQ will be the food truck on-site for this concert.

The Stu Huggens Band will wrap up the concert series on Aug. 11. The band performs a mix of high-energy country and Americana music. The final concert in the series will feature food from Spud Muffin, as well as a free ice cream social provided by members of the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Clair and Mary Ginder.

“The concerts are a wonderful opportunity for the Mount Joy community to spend a relaxing

evening listening to great music,” said Michele Emenheiser, Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce executive director. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the concerts.

Sponsors of the concert series are Members 1st Federal Credit Union and The Merchandiser/ Townlively.com. Not only do the concerts provide free entertainment and a fun way to spend a summer evening, but they also offer Chamber members exposure to the community. use the equipment.

Mike Brubaker, a township supervisor, said he’s excited to see the court put to use. He recommends that people stop by the site and scan the QR code and then go home to review the exercises before tackling the equipment. “That’s just what I would do, but people can come here, scan the code and start their workout if they’d rather do that,” he explained. To get started, visit www.national fitnesscampaign.com.

He thinks the Fitness Court will

be a nice addition to a park that already includes tennis and pickleball courts as well as walking and running paths.

“We think it’s important to provide healthy options of things for people to do,” Brubaker said. “Not everyone can afford a monthly subscription to a health club. This is free and outdoors. It just provides another thing for people in our community to do that’s healthy.”

While the grant covered some of the cost of the Fitness Court, the township is looking for businesses,

organizations or individuals who would like to become sponsors of the court. For more information, contact East Donegal Township at 717-426-3167.

The Fitness Court features seven exercises that can be completed in seven minutes.

After the launch event on Aug. 6, Susquehanna Regional Police Department will host National Night Out activities from 6 to 9 p.m. at the park. The free event will include music, games and

“Anything Goes”

stowaways. There are criminals on board. There’s a debutante and a renowned evangelist. It’s a show that makes fun of everythinganything goes.”

Featuring the music of Cole Porter, “Anything Goes” includes classic songs such as “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s De-Lovely,” “You’re the Top” and the show-stopping number “Anything Goes.”

“That’s the Act 1 finale, and it’s a big dance number,” said Ethan Reimel, who plays the gangster Moonface Martin. “This show features a lot of different dance styles - tap, jazz, tango, samba, foxtrot.”

Each of the main characters in “Anything Goes” has a unique backstory, said Jared Mattson, who plays Billy Crocker.

“Billy Crocker is a broken-down broker living in Manhattan, N.Y., in the 1930s. He meets a beautiful woman, Hope Harcourt, and instantly falls in love with her,” Jared explained. “He spends the rest of the show just trying to get her to notice him. … He’s a little bit of a fool, but his heart’s in the right place.”

Gabrielle Dina plays evangelist Reno Sweeney. “Reno is in love with Billy, but he does not love her at all,” she shared. “She’s looking for love in all the wrong places, but she does find true love in this show.”

Ethan describes his character as “a gangster who’s really bad at being a gangster. He puts on this tough image, but he’s a bit of a softy deep down.”

Although the show takes place in the 1930s, it has not lost its appeal to modern audiences, Gabrielle said.

“This is a fun, lighthearted show, but it has a little bit of social commentary to it,” she said. “There’s a focus on celebrity mania, which I think

from pg 1

is a very modern problem. A huge subplot in the show is the captain desperately searching for celebrities on his ship because they have none sailing with them, and that means people won’t buy tickets to the ship. He doesn’t care if these celebrities are good people or bad people. There’s definitely some commentary about how people will worship criminals just because they’re celebrities.”

Because of its elaborate dance numbers and wide range of characters, “Anything Goes” is often performed on a big stage with a big cast, but space is a bit limited at Susquehanna Stage. The theater staff was up to the challenge, said Jared.

“The production team has done a really good job with this show,” he noted. “There are 25 people in this cast, and it’s been impressive to see how such a big show is coming together here.”

Gabrielle said audiences can expect toe-tapping musical numbers, lots of comedy and a

happy ending.

“Come for a lot of fun, a lot of laughter, a lot of humor and comedic timing,” she said. “If you’re feeling sad, come see this show. It will lift your spirits.”

“Anything Goes” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, July 26 and 27, as well as at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 and 3. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, July 28 and Aug. 4. For more information, visit www.susquehanna stage.com.
