Whether your stay is short as you pass through, or if youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve decided to stay and call Elizabethtown your home, Borough Council and the Mayor extend you a warm welcome. The Borough is a vibrant community with close to 12,000 residents. We are located in the northwest corner of Lancaster County and serve as home to Elizabethtown College, Masonic Village, and Mars Chocolate. The Borough is a growing residential area with an historic downtown. Our close proximity to Lancaster, Harrisburg and York, coupled with our recently renovated historic AMTRAK train station and growing pedestrian and bicycle pathway network, makes our community an ideal place to live and raise a family. Local historians recognize that Barnabas and Elizabeth Hughes of County Donegal, Ireland, created Elizabethtown after their arrival in 1753 when they purchased land and laid out a new town around a central square. Mr. Hughes named the town after his wife, and many of the streets and alleys such as Market and High Streets; and Rose, Cherry and Peach Alley still bear the names originally given to them. To this day the Borough shares a sister-city relationship with Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. On April 13, 1829 Pennsylvania Governor John Andrew Schulze signed a bill giving borough status to Elizabethtown. Since that

time our goal has been to maintain and improve the quality of life for our residents. This is achieved in part through the full range of services including streets, parks and recreation, wastewater, planning and zoning, code enforcement, police protection, trash and recycling, economic development, and special projects and community events provided to enhance and support the Borough and our residents. The Borough publishes a newsletter in the spring and fall which is mailed to every Borough residence. We also maintain a website (www.etownonline.com) and Facebook page to provide residents and visitors with up-to-date information on services and community events. In addition to an active Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer fire department, an ambulance service, the public library, public and private schools, Elizabethtown College, and the historic train station, the Borough is home to many active civic and community groups. Demonstrated collaboration and partnerships among residents, community groups, and institutions in the Borough is evidence that cooperation is key to success and truly makes Elizabethtown a great place to live, work and play.

Mount Joy Township is a desirable place to live and prosper, just as it was for early inhabitants many years ago.

Governed by a five member Board of Supervisors, the Township of Mount Joy is located between the boroughs of Elizabethtown and Mount Joy, and adjacent to the counties of Dauphin and Lebanon. The township now has a good mix of residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial areas. Townships in Pennsylvania are one of the oldest forms of organized government in the US. Donegal Township was established in 1729 and was originally inhabited by Conoy Indians and was mainly settled by Scot-Irish and German immigrants. This large municipality was divided into smaller, more manageable townships starting in 1759 when Mount Joy Township received its papers from Donegal Township. Many small settlements and thriving villages were established. The Lancaster, Elizabethtown, Middletown Turnpike was an early important road. This turnpike, currently known as Harrisburg Avenue, became, and continues to be, the boundary between the townships of Mount Joy and West Donegal. Today, our Township supports Donegal and Elizabethtown School Districts and has the distinction of being the only municipality in Lancaster County that is served by two separate school districts.

Mount Joy Township is 28 square miles in size and has 108 plus miles of roadways offering passageway for thousands of vehicles daily. Our Township is also home to 3 Township owned parks. Our 10 acre Wolgemuth Park, located on Elizabethtown Road next to the former Fairview School, features walking paths, baseball and softball fields and a pavilion with an adjacent playground. Cove Outlook Park, located across from the Mount Joy Career & Technology Center on Old Market Street, is a 25 acre park consisting of passive recreation, walking paths, a soccer field, four pavilions and one tot lot. Our most recently acquired park is Old Trolley Line Park. Located adjacent to the Conewago Trail on Beverly Road, it is a full 48 acres of potential. When phase 1 is complete, this park will provide visitors with a multi purpose field, 2 softball fields, trails connecting to the existing Conewago Trail and trailhead parking for those wishing to use the Conewago Trail. Welcome to West Donegal Township Settled in 1719 and incorporated in 1838 ,West Donegal Township is named after County Donegal in Ireland. Located west and south of Elizabethtown, in Lancaster County, West Donegal Township comprises an area of 15.6 square miles in land size. Governed by a five member Board of Supervisors the 2010 census indicates the Township has 8260 residents. The Township is part of the Elizabethtown Area School District with the Rheems Elementary School located in the Township. Located within the Township is the Village of Rheems and the 1400 acre campus of Masonic Village. Masonic Village with a population of 1700 residents provides retirement homes and other health care facilities as well as recreation opportunities for the community. A variety of housing types and areas are available to prospective residents. They range from agricultural, in the many farmsteads, to single and duplex units, apartments and condominiums. One unique residential opportunity, and first open space development in the Township, has preliminary approval and the first phase developed. The residential development with varied residential units will provide concentrated residential homes on smaller lots with a park and open space to be enjoyed by the residents. A trail system in the open space areas

will connect to a future trail system providing access to trails at Masonic Village and into Elizabethtown. Wildlife view areas will be provided along the trail system for the enjoyment of the residents. The northwest corner of the Township provides the area of the Conewago Industrial Park. This industrial park, developed over the last 25 – 30 years, is the home of a variety of businesses including American Air Filter, Dupont – Pioneer, Crowe Transportation, Penn Tank Truck Wash, Walker Sales, Western Power Sports, Seedway, Tarantin, DAS, Angleboard and the latest Mod Space. Additional areas of the Conewago Industrial Park are yet to be developed and available. . . . . A number of other businesses are found throughout the Township providing services and employment to residents of the Township and individuals from the region. The wide range of businesses and housing provides a varied opportunity allowing residents to live, work and play within the Township. . . Located between Harrisburg and Lancaster, West Donegal Township provides residents employment and recreation opportunities with additional amenities in the larger cities. Sunday Schedule Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday Morning 8:15 AM and 11:00 AM 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM (Memorial Day weekend - Labor Day weekend) Sunday School for all ages 9:45 AM (September through May) Lutherans, who immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany, began worshipping near the village of Milton Grove around the year 1732. In the early 1750’s, the group moved to the William Bishop Farm on Ridge Road. On September 29, 1771, the growing congregation celebrated its first Liturgy at its current location on East High Street. Later becoming known as Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, the congregation has maintained a Lutheran Christian presence in the Elizabethtown community ever since. The first church building was a simple log house. In 1805, the log structure was replaced by a brick structure, which was eventually razed in 1886, making way for the present building. The current building underwent two major interior renovations, with the first being in 1921. The second renovation was completed in 1946 in celebration of the congregation’s 175th anniversary. It was at that time that the beautiful stained glass windows depicting the saints were installed. More than a building or location, Christ Lutheran Church is a body of believers committed to the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. This Good News is heard in the proclamation of the Scriptures, preaching and teaching and forgiveness of sins. The Gospel is made visible in the celebration of Baptism and Communion. As God’s priestly people and sacramental sign, the people of Christ Lutheran live out their faith in witness and service to Elizabethtown and beyond. The Library is here to help you make your dreams come true. From databases that will help complete school projects and business research to preschool story times, the Library helps educate and expand your horizons. The Library also stocks recreational books by your favorite authors in all kinds of formats. Library holdings include music and movies as well. The Library lends unusual items like folding tables and chairs, cake pans and other useful and unique objects. Explore the vast variety of materials at the Library and check us out on the web at www.etownpubliclibrary.org as more items are being added regularly. Within the Library is a bookstore operated by the Friends of the Library. The bookstore includes a collection of popular and historically interesting books, children’s books and videos for all ages, and a wide variety of items available for purchase. The Friends collaborate with local artists, showcasing and selling their wares on a rotating schedule. Proceeds from the bookstore go to benefit Library operations. Also housed within the Library is Elizabethtown Coffee Company. The shop provides a place where you can enjoy freshly roasted, responsibly sourced coffees, bagged and loose specialty teas and many other refreshing beverages. Whole bean or ground coffee and packaged teas are available for

purchase. Snacks and pastries are available, including crumb cakes, cookies, cake pops and more. The Coffee Company operates the same hours as the Library, including Second Fridays. Small groups are encouraged to meet within the Coffee Company while larger groups can be accommodated in other areas of the Library. The Library is an official passport application center and takes passport photos. Appointments are highly recommended for passport services. Lending services are available to everyone. Residents living in Lancaster County will need to show proof of identification and residency to apply for a free Library card. Masonic Village may be best known for its retirement living services, which are open to the public, and for providing continuing care for more than 1,800 residents who live on the campus. However, this active 60+ community has expanded its services to offer a variety of options for community members to use, as well: • Adult Day Care Center (called the Adult Daily Living Center) offers a cost-effective alternative for adults 18 and older with functional, physical, social or cognitive impairments, where they can enjoy recreation and social opportunities as well as access to personal and health services. The center provides friendship, encouragement, structure and assistance during the day, so participants can return to the comfort of their own home in the evening. For families and caregivers, the program provides support so they may pursue careers or have a respite from caregiving. Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care (“EACTC”) was formed in 1999 to provide and sustain positive opportunities and resources that nurture and support youth and their families in the Greater Elizabethtown Community. EACTC implements new programs and enhances existing programs designed to strengthen and improve the lives of children and families in our community. EACTC works in collaboration with Elizabethtown Area School District, Churches That Care, Elizabethtown College, the Masonic Village, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Compass Mark, the local police departments, and other organizations and businesses to provide services and programs for youth and their families. EACTC is also working to engage more community members to help build a healthier community and reduce access and abuse of drugs and alcohol. Assisted by EACTC, a new Prescription Take Back Program is being offered at all area police stations. In collaboration with Churches that Care and community volunteers, children in need are being matched up with volunteer mentors, neighborhood parties are being organized and more family’s immediate needs are being met. A new initiative is called Positive Community Norms (PCN). PCN provides a transformational approach to improve community health by reducing the misperceptions of actual use of drugs and alcohol and balances the hopes and concerns within the community. PCN messaging engages different audiences throughout the community and focuses on the positive behaviors. Another new initiative is Do The Right Thing, which honors students, grades K-12, who distinguish themselves through their accomplishments, attitudes, or

outstanding efforts. In doing so, they make themselves a positive role model for their peers. EACTC offers ongoing after school programs. PEP, an afterschool program offered at Bear Creek, is helping students to develop positive ways to express their emotions and learn effective friendship skills. This program is directed by a social worker and Elizabethtown College students. Dr. Dellasega’s Club Ophelia program, an after-school club for girls in grades 4-8, focuses on building friendship skills, improving self-esteem, identifying healthy tools to resolve conflict, and reduce relational aggression. Big Brothers and Big Sisters offers after school programs as well as the traditional community match program. EACTC also recognizes many young people in the community who have made a significant turn-around or improvement in their lives by providing an annual Turn Around Recognition Breakfast. EACTC collaborates to offer Parenting Classes and valuable information for parents of all age groups. It has the same rhythm, 100 beats per minute, as the chest compressions in CPR.The American Heart Association wants people to have that song running through their mind as they learn to save a life in the new “Hands Only CPR” training that can be learned in minutes. Residents of northwestern Lancaster County can learn Hands Only CPR at free, monthly classes being offered by Northwest Emergency Medical Services at 380 W. Bainbridge St., Elizabethtown. Each class begins at 6:30p.m. on the following dates: March 31, April 28, May 12, June 23, July 21, August 18, September 15, October 13, November 10 and December 8.There is no need to pre-register unless you are bringing a large group of people. Nearly 400,000 Americans suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital every year. Immediate, Hands Only CPR can provide precious minutes for first responders to arrive with an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and more advanced treatments. Immediate CPR can double or triple a person’s chances of survival. There are only two steps to remember for Hands Only CPR. 1. Have someone nearby call 911 and ask for an ambulance, or you should call if you are alone 2. Then push hard and fast (100 times a minute) on the center of the person’s chest until help arrives The full CPR/AED class teaches a series of steps in addition to chest compressions such as checking for breathing, giving rescue breaths and connecting the AED.There’s no need to remember all of that for Hands Only CPR. ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH

St. Peter Catholic Church is committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through prayer, service, scripture and sacrament in the Living Catholic and Apostolic tradition. St. Peter offers various Masses on Saturday evening and Sunday morning at the New Church located at 1840 Marshall Drive. The address designated to the New Church is historically significant as 1840 was the year St. Peter changed in status from “mission” to “parish” and Marshall is significant as it denotes the name of the first resident pastor of St. Peter Church, Father Francis X. Marshall. This building was dedicated on September 5, 1999. The historical or previous St. Peter Church building remains located at Park Street and Cherry Alley. Daily Mass is celebrated every week at this location. The roots of St. Peter Church can be traced back to 1752 when Father Ferdinand Farmer traveled from St. Mary’s Church in Lancaster to the farm of Henry Eckenroth to minister to members of this single Catholic household. During the 1750s and 1760s Catholic families - predominantly German and Irish - immigrated to this area. In 1791 and 1795 a considerably larger congregation acquired the properties on the corner of Park Street and Cherry Alley in Elizabethtown. The congregation celebrated 260 years in 2012 and has grown from the single household of Henry Eckenroth in 1752 to a membership in 2012 of over 2,400 parishioners from 900 families. If you attend Mass at St. Peter Church you will be greeted by Father David Danneker, Pastor, or Monsignor Thomas Kujovsky. We welcome all to walk with us on this journey of faith. Contact our Parish office for information on weekend as well as daily Mass times.

This was a sad time for anyone associated with our School; however, it is a time to remember and celebrate St. Peter School.
