Brad is a native of Vermont, where he began playing the piano at a young age. He spent most of his adult years in Connecticut, moving to Pennsylvania in 2007 to marry Mary, who is a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania.
Soon after they met, Brad and Mary discovered that their voices blended well and that God had plans for them. They now live in the Harrisburg

Smiley Announces Retirement Plans
The Paxton Ministries board of directors recently received Jodie Smiley’s notice of retirement as executive director of Paxton Ministries. She will continue in her role as executive director through January 2022.
Smiley worked for Paxton Ministries for 11 years. In addition to ensuring that Paxton Ministries is on a firm financial footing, Smiley and her team led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board has appointed an ad hoc search committee, which is comprised of six board members, and two former board members who were involved in the search that brought Smiley to Paxton Ministries. The board has selected MHS Consulting to lead the search and selection process.
In the coming months, Paxton Ministries will celebrate Smiley’s service and welcome a new executive director. To learn more, visit www.paxtonmin.org.

Locals Graduate From Honors Program
Several students graduated from the Honors Program at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. The Honors Program at Susquehanna offers a challenging academic program to students interested in a more self-directed and interdisciplinary approach to learning. Students are chosen for their natural curiosity, passion for learning, high energy, leadership, and academic standing in high school.
Daniel Sellers of Elizabethtown is a creative writing and English major in the Class of 2021. Sellers is a graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School.
Abby Yoh of Middletown is a luxury brand marketing and management major in the Class of 2021. Yoh is a graduate of Middletown Area High School.
Elizabethtown Area Senior Center, located in the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, is open with limited hours and limited activities. For more information or to make reservations for meals or attendance, readers may call the center at 717-367-7984.

On weekdays from Thursday, Aug. 5, to Wednesday, Aug. 11, the center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Each day at 8:30 a.m., coffee, table games, and puzzles will be available. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, and Monday, Aug. 9.
Activities will also be offered at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. each day. These will be a ring toss followed by bingo on Aug. 5; laddergolf and root beer float day on Aug. 6; a ring toss and bingo on Aug. 9; laddergolf and words of fortune with Matt on Tuesday, Aug. 10; and chair tai-chi and 20 Questions on Aug. 11.
The Kiwanis Club of Norlanco-Rheems will welcome Cristina Paden, executive director at Rainbow’s End Youth Services (REYS Youth Center), as the speaker at its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 4. The meeting will take place at the Kiwanis Pavilion at Kunkle Field at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Paden will share the vision of REYS.
Paden has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in counseling, and postgraduate education in ministry. She is passionate about connecting with young people and encouraging them to enter into an intentional and transformative relationship with Jesus. Originally from New York City, she has lived in Pennsylvania for the last 10 years. The Kiwanis Club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, usually at 7:30 a.m. at the WallickO’Connor House Reception Center, 4 E. Main St., Mount Joy. Visitors are welcome. The motto “Kiwanis Is for Kids” means that the group is focused on about projects and community events that center around the children in the community.
Tim Landis Retires From WJTL Post
Tim Landis retired from his role as president of Creative Ministries Inc./WJTL on June 30. Landis has a long history as a promoter of Christian music locally, nationally, and internationally. He promoted his first Christian concert in 1975 and founded Creative Ministries in 1984.
In 2004, Landis was awarded the Gospel Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Upon his retirement, Landis will take on the new title of president emeritus. Fred McNaughton, former general manager, became the president/CEO of Creative Ministries Inc./WJTL.
