Students Of The Month Recognized

Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) seniors Hana Connolly and Ryan Moyer were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s Students of the Month for October. This program aims to recognize student achievements by sustaining a culture of learning that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the EAHS community.

Hana is the daughter of Dan and Nannette Connolly of Elizabethtown. She plays the clarinet in the concert and marching bands and the viola in the orchestra, and she is a member of the concert and show choirs. She supports the

spring musical as part of the pit, cast, and stage crew. Hana is secretary of the Key Club and a member of the Bible and Book Clubs and the National Honor Society. In the community, Hana is active with the Hershey School of Dance and the Susquehanna Young Women’s Choir. In addition, she is a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, where she is active in the children’s and youth ministry programs. Her plans after graduation include attending college to major in biology or exercise science, with the goal of becoming a chiropractor.

The American Heart Association recently recognized Weis Markets with a Distinguished Achievement Award for its significant contributions to the success of the Association’s Eastern States region.

According to Natalie Wech, co-chair of the American Heart Association’s southcentral Pennsylvania board of directors, Weis has raised and committed more than $1.5 million since its inaugural Life Is Why consumer campaign, which launched in February 2019. In 2021, during American Heart Month, February, store teams across the company’s 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia raised $575,000 for the Life Is Why consumer campaign.

Additionally, Weis Markets became the first sponsor of the new Live Fierce Capital Region community impact campaign. This yearlong campaign helped the American Heart Association address community health priorities, including providing CPR in Schools training kits to several school districts throughout central Pennsylvania, supplying a local Federally Qualified Health Center with blood pressure selfmonitoring tools to help patients most at risk of uncontrolled high blood pressure to manage their blood pressure at home. The campaign also equipped Harrisburg School District with new filtered water bottle filling stations, which will provide students with access to clean drinking water in an effort to encourage them to hydrate with water instead of sodas and other sugary drinks.

Civil Air Patrol’s Jesse Jones Composite Squadron 304 meets on Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Venture Jets Hangar at Lancaster Airport, 110 Millport Road, Lititz. Teenage cadet members participate in leadership and physical training, character development, and aerospace education to gain advancement in the CAP Cadet Program. Members also train for Air Force Rescue and Recovery Service assigned missions for search and rescue and disaster recovery.

Ryan is a member of the high school orchestra, where he sits second chair in the cello section. In the community, Ryan is a volunteer at the Masonic Village. After graduation, Ryan plans to pursue a degree in graphic design, with the goal of owning a small graphic design business.
