Area Contractors Recognized For Achieving Safety Standards

The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the 2022 ABC STEP Safety Management System participants on Aug. 16 during ABC Keystone’s Safety Recognition Breakfast presented by Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC. During the recognition event, representatives from Keystone Chapter member companies had the opportunity to hear remarks from Kevin Chambers, area director, U.S. Department of Labor OSHA Harrisburg area office.

Founded more than three decades ago, STEP is a program that aims to improve safety performance among construction industry participants. Ratings range from Diamond (the highest) to Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. STEP participants measure their safety processes and policies on key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs. To learn more about the STEP program, visit www.abcstep.org.

The top Diamond STEP level requires a company to maintain an incidence rate at least 50% below the national average at an EMR of .80 or lower. Local Diamond recipients are 11400 Inc., Lancaster; Commonwealth Fire Protection Co., Leola; and Leo Kob Co. Inc., Elizabethtown.

The Platinum Level is presented to those companies whose achievements in safety have been certified. These companies are eligible for ABC National Safety Award submission and have presented a higher-thanaverage standard for safety in the construction industry. Local Platinum recipients are Benchmark Construction Co. Inc., Brownstown; CCS Building Group, Willow Street; CLARK Inc., Paradise; Hursh Painting Co. Inc., Brownstown; Legacy Electrical Services Inc., Manheim; RSR Electric, A Viocity Company, Manheim; and Smucker Company, Leola.

To achieve Gold, each company had to not only meet the scoring component, but to have an incidence rate equal to or below the National Bureau of Labor Statistics average for the North American Industry Classification Systems code for that year. Local Gold recipients are Paul Risk Construction, Quarryville, and Warfel Construction Company, East Petersburg.

Local Silver recipients were CH+N Site Construction Inc., Lancaster; John E. Fullerton Inc., Elizabethtown; H&S Industrial, A Viocity Company, Manheim; High Construction Company, Lancaster; Paramount Contracting Inc., Lancaster; EG Stoltzfus Construction LLC, Lancaster; and Wohlsen Construction Company, Lancaster.
