Turkey Bowl To Run Live
Tel Hai Camp and Retreat in Honey Brook will hold its annual 5K Turkey Bowl Race this Thanksgiving, with a few safety modifications due to the pandemic.
The race, to be held on Thursday, Nov. 26, will be live and not virtual, according to Bruce Gregory, camp director. “In order to comply with
Samantha Bingaman from Ocean City, Md., was the overall female winner of last year’s Turkey Bowl 5K held on Thanksgiving at Tel Hai Camp, with a time of 20 minutes, 41 seconds. In 2019, the top overall male winner was Noah Taylor from Mohnton (not pictured), with a time of 17:49.
CDC guidelines and group size recommendations, we have changed our format,” Gregory said. “This year, the 5K race will be a time trial start format. The race will be scored off of chip time measured from runners’ start time to their finish time.”
Gregory explained that there will be multiple start times running every 20 minutes beginning at 7:20 a.m.; the last start time will be at 10 a.m. Runners will need to sign up for their start time when they register. Check-in and race packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. on Nov. 26.
The 1-mile children’s run will not be held this year to accommodate the multiple 5K start times.
The 5K (3.1-mile) race, which will be slightly modified because of the new format, will be a cross-country type race that will take runners through the camp and around the lake on a mixture of paved, gravel and grassy paths, including some hills.
To register for the race, readers may visit www.telhaicamp.org/ events/turkey-bowl-run. Online registration will end on Wednesday, Nov. 25, and no race-day registrations will be accepted.
