Strive Toward Better Mental Health ANN MEAD ASH
“Younger generations are more apt to accept, support, and encourage loved ones to get help (for mental health issues),” said Kim McDevitt, executive director of Mental
Health America of Lancaster County (MHALC). “That’s a culture shift,” added McDevitt, who noted that data shows people are being educated about mental health. “That is the only way we will reduce the stigma,” she
concluded. McDevitt noted that breaking through the stigma should result in a changed view of overall wellness. “We will be looking at mental health the same way we look at physical health because

What’s Real, What’s Not?” will feature a discussion regarding Francis Ford Coppola’s 1988 film, “Tucker: The Man and His Dream.” Coppola’s film has become a classic automobile-themed movie, especially for Tucker car enthusiasts. The movie is also frequently shown and studied in today’s college entrepreneurship classes. Tucker family members John Tucker Jr. and Cynthia Fordon will join Larry Clark to discuss what is real in several
key scenes in the film. They will share firsthand insights into behind-the-scenes matters associated with the making of the movie. To attend the online webcast, preregistration is required. Capital Blue Cross has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania for the fourth consecutive year, placing 23rd among large companies. According to Capital Blue Cross president and CEO Todd Shamash, the designation is awarded based on employees’ evaluations of the company. Most Capital Blue Cross employees began working remotely in March 2020 to best ensure their safety and well-being, while a small number of staff continued to work on-site to provide critical support services. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolved, Capital Blue Cross did, too, reinventing the way its employees work. Many now have full-time remote working status, while some have hybrid inoffice/at-home schedules, and a smaller number work full time on-site. The Best Places to Work rankings were announced

Budget-Friendly Students Of The Month Announced Lower Dauphin Debate Club. She is also parValentine’s Day High School senticipating in Youth and Goviors Ethan Espenernment this year and the Gift Ideas shade and Alicia school’s GSA chapter. Each February, people buy gifts for their sweethearts and create romantic memories through fine dining and decadent desserts on Valentine’s Day. People looking to save money this year may consider the following suggestions, which focus on being creative and focusing on the sentiment involved. While a card may be the smallest purchase on one’s shopping list, an individual can still save an average of $3 to $5 on a card by making one themselves or sending a free digital greeting. Restaurants are popular options for couples on Valentine’s Day, but they can be busy and prices may be higher this year due to inflation. Couples may look for limited prix fixe menus at some restaurants, or they could make a meal at home using less-costly ingredients. People do not have to spend a fortune to make an impression with gifts. Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but other stones are often less costly. Giving a birthstone is an alternative. If gold is out of one’s price range, many sterling silver options are just as beautiful. In addition, consider warehouse retailers for jewelry purchases, as they may have lower costs. The cost of roses definitely goes up near Valentine’s Day, so consider giving another flower. Lilies can be lovely or maybe that special someone has a signature flower. A flowering plant, which will cost less than many bouquets and will last far beyond Valentine’s Day if given care, is another alternative to consider. Sweet treats are the name of the game, but many popular chocolate boxes can be pricey this time of year. By planning ahead, a stockpile of chocolates from Halloween or Christmas can be acquired. Floral wire or pipe cleaners can turn bite-sized packages into a handmade chocolate bouquet. Another option is to purchase various chocolate bars and package them with hot chocolate, chocolate cookies, and other decadent items in a themed gift basket.
Jones were named Students of the Month for November 2021 by the Rotary Club of Hummelstown. Espenshade is four-year member of the boys’ volleyball team, which won a state and district championship last season. He is a three-year manager for the girls’ volleyball Ethan Espenshade team. He has also been a member of the Believers in the Gospel major in computer science. Safely Storing Decorations The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) strongly encourages everyone to dispose of their Christmas trees promptly after the holiday season. As much as people enjoy the look and feel of Christmas trees in their homes, they are large combustible items that have the potential to result in serious fires. Both live and artificial trees can cause fires, but live Christmas trees dry out and become increasingly flammable over time. To safely dispose of a Christmas tree, NFPA recommends using the local community’s recycling program, if possible. Trees should not be put in the garage or left outside. NFPA also offers several tips for safely removing lighting and decorations to ensure that they remain in good condition. When unplugging electri-
cal decorations, the gripping area on the plug should be used. The cord should never be pulled to unplug any device from an electrical outlet, as this can harm the wire and insulation of the cord, increasing the risk for shock or electrical fire. As light strings are being packed, each line should be inspected for damage, and people should throw out any sets that have loose connections, broken sockets, or cracked or bare wires. Each set of lights should be wrapped and put in an individual plastic bag or wrapped around a piece of cardboard. All electrical decorations should be stored away from children and pets in a dry place, where they will not be damaged by water or dampness. For more information on home fire safety, visit www.usfa.fema.gov.
In the community, Jones volunteers at her church and has studied dance for the past 10 years. She is the daughter of Linda and Kenneth Jones. Jones plans to attend a four-year college or university and major in political science or economics with the goal of pursuing a career in law.
