Treasury Announces Unclaimed Property
Pennsyvlania residents are advised to check with the Pennsylvania Treasury’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property to see if they have property, including military decorations, waiting to be claimed.
Nearly $4 billion in collectibles, dormant bank and retirement accounts, jewelry, military medals, rebates, stocks, and uncashed checks have not yet been claimed by their rightful owners. The unclaimed property may also include items from safe deposit boxes.
Residents can search the registry by visiting www.pa treasury.gov or by calling the Treasury’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property toll-free at 800-222-2046.
Veterans and families of service members can search a database of unclaimed military decorations at www.patreasury.gov /unclaimed-property/medals/ as they may be owed Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, and more. Currently, 650 military decorations lie unclaimed in Pennsylvania’s Treasury.
PHA Releases New Training Videos
The Pennsylvania Homecare Association (PHA) has added three new videos to its training website, My Learning Center. The videos are free to access and are designed specifically for direct care workers and family caregivers.
The new videos, made possible through funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, are intended to help caregivers build their skills in caring for home-based consumers. The topics are “Easy and Healthy Meal Tips for Caregivers,” “CPR for Caregivers,” and “Mental Health for the Consumer and Caregiver.” Additionally, the video “Activities to Keep Your Consumers Engaged” has been translated into Spanish and is posted on the site. The English version of the video has been viewed more than 150,000 times.

Approximately 25 karate students of all ages from Chosen Martial Arts in Palmyra participated in the Back Mountain Invitational Tournament in Trucksville on June 26.
The students competed in three events: forms, sparring and padded weapons sparring. The participants were divided into categories based on their level of experience (belt rank) and also their age.
Collectively, the Chosen Martial Arts studio students won the most medals overall and placed first, second, and third in multiple events and categories. The students also learned about good sportsmanship, patience and self-control, noted master Lester Hicks, owner of Chosen Martial Arts.

Gamut Kicks Off New Season
Kicking off its 29th season, Harrisburg Shakespeare Company at Gamut Theatre, 15 N. Fourth St., Harrisburg, will present “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The show will tour to schools all season, and public performances, which began on Oct. 8, will be held through Sunday, Oct. 17. Shows will occur on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
The show runs 80 minutes, and each performance will be followed by a talk-back discussion with the actors and the audience. Patrons should consult Gamut’s health and safety protocols before purchasing a ticket.

Smiley Announces Retirement Plans
The Paxton Ministries board of directors recently received Jodie Smiley’s notice of retirement as executive director of Paxton Ministries. She will continue in her role as executive director through January 2022.
Smiley worked for Paxton Ministries for 11 years. In addition to ensuring that Paxton Ministries is on a firm financial footing, Smiley and her team led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board has appointed an ad hoc search committee, which is comprised of six board members, and two former board members who were involved in the search that brought Smiley to Paxton Ministries. The board has selected MHS Consulting to lead the search and selection process.
