“A LENTEN JOURNEY”
Zion Lutheran Church,
Lancaster Country Day School (LCDS), 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster, will host an open house for prospective students and their families at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. The open house will include opening remarks from head of school Steve Lisk, a question-and-answer session with a panel of students and teachers, an interactive tour of the campus, and comments from the heads of the lower, middle, and upper schools. effort,” raved lead pastor Joe Castronova. “Church members helped with the woodworking, decorating, painting, and more. The work’s not quite done, but we’re ready to open to the community.” To celebrate the new facility and the ministry opportunities that have opened up as a result, Reality Church began a grand opening series on March 3. It will continue through Sunday, March 31. Each week has had a different theme relating to the overall theme of “It’s Not That.” “People think certain things about Jesus that aren’t true,” Castronova explained. “Jesus gets a bad reputation.” On Sunday, March 17, “Stamp of Approval” will address the idea that to come to church, folks need to look, act, or think a certain way. “No matter what we do, (Jesus) still loves us and accepts us,” said Joette Peters, director of ministry.
Church Moves To Its First Permanent Location
The leaders of Reality Church had been looking for a permanent facility for the congregation for three years when they learned about the vacant building that had previously held a franchise of a workout company. With a bit of creative thinking, the leaders knew that the 20,000-square-foot space at 2301 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, in Golden Meadows Park, would work well for the church. Negotiations began in the summer of 2018, and worship services began taking place regularly in the new building during the first week of December. “We redid about every surface inside. It was a completely awesome team

ABWA Chapter Slates Meeting ABWA Lancaster Area Express Network Chapter will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 20, from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Lancaster Country Club, 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster. The
event will include breakfast. The featured speaker will be Kacey French, whose presentation is titled “Pro-Aging - Successful Aging - Empowered Aging.” The presentation will propose alterna-
tive thinking, allowing someone to focus on one’s home and living environment. The presentation will provide strategies to push back against sociological ideas on aging. Interested attendees should reg-

errands on a Saturday to enjoy for lunch, and we’re trying to make it available a little earlier.” The event will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. Main St., Mountville, on Saturday, March 16. The takeouts will include containers of potpie, which is a savory mixture of chicken, potatoes, hand-rolled dough squares, and broth, along with small sides of coleslaw. Desserts will be available for purchase. Folks who opt to dine in may arrive as early as 3 p.m. Separate prices for admission have been set for adults and for children. The meal will be served family-style, and the menu will include potpie, coleslaw, pepper cabbage, peas, rolls, coffee, iced tea, and water. Diners may purchase desserts, which typically feature slices of cakes and pies. Takeouts and meals will be available until the potpie is sold out, which usually happens around 6 p.m., Weaver said. As an additional benefit, the club will sell brooms made by local Amish craftspeople. The tradition of selling brooms originated with an early occupational training program for folks with impaired vision.
When the program was discontinued, the Lions found other makers of the sweeping tools. The proceeds from the potpie supper and broom sales will support projects of the Mountville Lions Club. Weaver noted that the club’s newest initiative is to replace the public benches around Mountville borough. The club provides ongoing assistance in the maintenance of the pavilion at Mountville Community Park, funds scholarships for graduating Hempfield High School seniors, supports the Columbia Food Bank, and organizes an annual Easter egg roll for children. Additionally, the club contributes to Beacon Lodge, a nonprofit camp in Union County that offers programs for people who are blind or have other physical challenges. The club invites anyone who would like to serve the community to join. “We have great camaraderie while working to make our world a better place,” Weaver commented. That camaraderie will continue with the potpie supper on March 16. For more information about the potpie supper or membership in the Mountville Lions Club, readers may call Weaver at 717-368-2810.

Humane League of Lancaster County will offer a monthlong guinea pig adoption event in recognition of National Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month. March is National Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month, and the Humane League of Lancaster County (HLLC), 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, will offer a monthlong guinea pig adoption event.
