A Basket In One Disc Golf Club Plans Tournament BY ANN MEAD ASH

When Wesley Moyer moved to Lancaster County several years ago, he had a special reason to look for a place to live in Akron. Moyer specifically chose the borough because he likes Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park, 221 N. 11th St., Akron. Moyer’s connection to the park is not simply due to an affinity for the outdoors, but rather is tied to his interest in disc golf, a sport he first discovered at summer camp in Pottstown as a teenager. “I got more serious (about disc golf) when I came here,” said Moyer, who is now the secretary of the 75-member Lancaster County Disc Golf Club (LCDGC). He also volunteers to help maintain the disc golf course at Akron - a 27-basket course with holes in the open, in the pine forest, and mixed between fairways and woods. year, a book is chosen to be read, discussed, and enjoyed together in classrooms, as a school, as families, and as a community. Every child and staff member receives a copy of the book. The goals of the One Book, One School initiative include promoting and sharing a love of reading, building community, and creating

connections by actively engaging in literacy activities both inside and outside of school. This year’s book has themes of kindness, acceptance, and understanding for others, as well as hope for a better tomorrow. Each year, as the book is finished, the school holds a community night to celebrate. This year, families

enjoyed pizza dinners donated by community businesses, made wish ribbons and kindness rocks, planted seeds, roasted marshmallows with members of the Mountville Fire Company, and interacted with police officers from the East Hempfield Township, West Hempfield Township, and Lancaster city police departments.

or 46, while an average (player) shoots about 56,” ex plained Moyer, who noted for groups of three players, the course takes about three hours and 30 minutes to complete. He noted that while league members meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, many families and members of the Plain community enjoy the course on Sundays. Just as with clubs for traditional golf, discs are divided by designation. Fairways, drivers, mids, and putters are chosen by the player based on the distance of the throw and other factors. Moyer has stacks of discs he has collected, but he said that starter packs of three can be purchased at a nominal cost. Moyer pointed out the differences in discs, noting that putters are thicker and other discs may have thinner and sharper edges. Full Circle Recycling To Celebrate 20th Anniversary Grimms - including Brian’s wife, Dottie, and their sons, Zachary and Isaac - raised broiler chickens and beef cattle on farms in Willow Street and outside of Delta in southern York County. W hen Ray retired from his business, Brian and Dottie bought Ray’s salvage yard, located at the top of the Buck hill outside of Quarryville. They changed the focus from selling used auto parts to buying scrap metals. A few years later, they bought their second location on South Prince Street in Lancaster, formerly Dixon Recycling. Then, in 2014, they bought the former Rubin Steel Company on Fruitville Pike in

Lancaster. Zach and Isaac attended college at Shippensburg and Penn State universities, with Zach earning a degree in business management and Isaac earning a degree in finance. After working elsewhere, they both returned to the family business and plan to take over the operations one day. Zach currently manages the Fruitville Pike branch, while Isaac manages the location at the Buck. Cousin Troy McDonald manages the South Prince Street location. Full Circle Recycling gets its name from the fact that the Grimms went from the original business of selling used parts and recycling
